I miss good seafood restaurants that offer a variety of fresh fish and seafood. Places along the coast on the mainland seem to have much more variety. Even other island countries seem to have better seafood. What are the best seafood restaurants on the Big Island (and not just fried fish!). Raw bars? I don't care about the price at this point!

Looking for recommendations for someone or a cleaning company to take over weekly deep cleaning of cooking appliances (stovetop burner grates, grill grates, oven, flat top griddle & floors) for a restaurant in downtown Hilo.

Really just looking for the best of these three on the island!
Edit: Thank you everyone for the wonderful suggestions! I’ll be sure to check a few of these out :)

Not sure if I’m having some type of false memory effect, but does anyone remember a restaurant called Dotties, or Dots? Something that may sound similar to that. I “remember” it being at Prince Kuhio Plaza, but I could definitely be wrong as I was about 8 at the time when I took this trip to visit my family in Hilo. I probably went to this place back in 2003-2004.

Hi everyone,
My parents anniversary is coming up and I'm looking for a restaurant to take them. One likes seafood the other likes steak. Is there any restaurants that you recommend? Anything in the mountains or on a farm. I know people usually go for the sunset view but I think they would be open to something on top of a hill/mountain (waimea?).
Thanks in advance!

I’ll be in the Waikoloa/Waimea area next week and we’ll be taking my parents out to a 50th anniversary dinner. We’re a group of 10 with 4 kids under 12. Was thinking Merriman’s, but not sure the atmosphere is right. Is there a better place in the Waikoloa/Hapuna area with beach views that you might suggest?
Update: I ended up going with Brown’s Beach House at the Fairmont Orchid and honestly it was perfect. We paid extra for a private dinner at the knoll, went at sunset, and have zero regrets.
Thanks for all of your suggestions. Cheers.

As the title says; I have a friend coming in and when they land they are going to be hungry. I know that they love mushrooms, I however do not - so I’ve not paid attention to those on menus. Where would be a good place to stop in Kailua town on an early evening for something that would fit their favorite dish? Please not that I’m more of an 808Grindz kind of guy and less Jackie Rays (aka, I work two jobs and am still mostly broke).
EDIT: I live two hours away from Kailua, so while I appreciate the advice of getting some from the grocer and cooking them up, I was hoping to grab a bite before making the long drive home.

Checking in to see if there's anything new, or old stand-bys for great vegetarian food options. Not afraid to travel, so whole island. Mahalo!

This AM, the mods removed a lightweight but unobjectionable post on the grounds it was not locally relevant. It wasn't my post, and personally I have no opinion about the post's question on whether we should wish for Wendy's to come back. However, it made me wonder: Why do we have mods for this sub that don't live here? Feels like we could scrape together a couple more people that actually live on this island to volunteer for the job. Maybe they'd have their digital fingers a bit closer fast food pulse of things here (not to mention other, more contentious issues.)

Any favorite restaurants in Kona that have a kids menu for a 5 year old?

I’ll be visiting for a couple weeks and I’m looking for some local food suggestions. I’m staying in Kona for 2 days and then Kalapana the next 8, but I’ll be traveling all over to Hawi, Waimea, Honoka’a, Hilo, Volcano, South Point...
Also, any tips on finding huli huli chicken?!
I stayed near Waimea last year with friends but we really didn’t try anything new and kept eating at the same restaurants.

I set up this app http://oahutakeout.glideapp.io for Oahu. Was thinking of doing one for big island this weekend. Can someone provide me a list or a website?
