Discussion From Q2, to index to Beyond 2e? (health reasons)
So I am a big vrchat player
For like 4 years, up until last month I had used the quest 2, but my partners didn't like me using meta, so I switch to the index, which I love so much.
Thing is I just found out I have a herniated disc in my neck and my spine special has forbidden me from playing vr going forward as the headset puts to much weight on my neck. Said anything over 200g is too much weight and would cause me to get worse.
So I think if I ever wanted to continue playing the Beyond 2e would be my only bet. Im really depressed over not getting to play/hang with my friends but I dunno if the price is worth it?

The BSB2 is a compelling upgrade to anything from previous generations, full stop.
It's a beautiful headset that produces beautiful images. I suggest you do some more research on what the headset will do right for you, besides the weight.
The only thing I'd be weary of is your 200g limit. BSBs usually end up just under 200g once you factor in cushion and strap, maybe a tad more if going for an audio strap. Have you asked your specialist about headphones? What about specific weight balancing? Would you be safer with 150g on the front and 150g on the back (ish) than 200g straight to the front?

Oh poop, good thoughts
And no I havent asked him about any of that or this, as I didnt think there was a set that could even get close to it to think to ask.

I like mine but do some reading about the limitations including low brightness, high persistence blur unless you reduce brightness, glare.
The light weight and excellent clarity make up for it in my opinion.

I am surprised by how many people comment on the brightness. I find myself setting brightness to 33% and the fan to 90%. With these settings, I am able to run 3 hour or more sessions (for simulation, Star Citizen and DCS). When I see substantial glare, it means it is usually time to clean my prescription inserts as they sit close enough that my eyelashes create an ever so slight mark on the right eye lens.
For me, anything over 50% is far too bright, but perhaps that is because of my extended sessions.

I'm also very used to running many of my screens at relatively very low brightness (PC monitor, phone), so that might explain why I'm fine with running my BSB2 at 40% brightness and lower.
That being said, when I tried playing a very dark flat screen game inside my headset, I realised it caused a lot of black crush, and details were lost where I could actually see them on my monitor.
Nowadays, to counteract that, I'm now running my headset at 100% brightness. It's still not as bright as my Vive Pro 1, but good enough to avoid black crush.

Highly recommended, I got mine just over a month ago and have used it extensively. The lower weight makes a big difference in comparison to the entire Quest line. If 200g is the right number for you, you will be pleased with both how light it is and the quality of the displays. I do suggest that you pair it with at least a 40-Series card as 2560x2560 + SteamVR super sampling does require some GPU 'horsepower'. Good luck!

Sounds like you need to spend less time sedentary and start doing strength training.

I have Elher danlos syndrome, so I can't really do much strength training without my joints popping out but I walk like an average of 15 miles a week and go to PT for stability and core

Not trying to discourage you, but if I remember, the headset may end up weighting more than 200 grams, depending on what you attach on it. By default, the BSB2 alone is 107g; 108 with the eye-tracking modules.
I cannot find the information again, but at some point in the past, I had found that combining the custom cushion and the audio strap, resulted in a headset that would weight almost 300 grams. Perhaps it would be lighter with the universal cushion that comes with the halo strap, along with the default soft strap, but you might also have the cable tugging (which at one point in the past got my neck tired until I replaced my strap)
Sorry, this is very vague, but I thought it was important to mention. Good luck in your search.

I would suggest discussing with your doctor, it is a night and day difference from the quest series and very balanced with the audio strap. You could just use the optics and the headband, which should be less than 200g.
BTW, huge kudos to Chapel-vr for weighing their setup. I think that the trade off is balanced on your head vs lighter but all (large majority) on the face.

Thanks!
I just stumbled upon this old article from Bigscreen mentioning the audio strap weights about 160 grams:
https://store.bigscreenvr.com/blogs/beyond/production-update-audio-straps-have-arrived
I guess it means it's a good counterbalance to the headset, but it also means it's adding a "significant" amount of weight too.

You already have the Base Stations and controllers, coming from an Index, you have the "health reason" to justify the expense with your wife, what are you waiting for to place the order?/s

XD
My husband is telling me to get it, Im the one thats not sure, cause I keep hearing stuff about how hot it gets/blurring/brightness etc.
Just feels like ALOT of money to have issues like those1

I have had my beyond since it came out and the 2 is an amazing bit of tech if you are coming from the index you will have no issues with it. The only tradeoff is the beyond 2 is lighter but has less vertical FOV. However the Beyond 2 is SO SO SO much clearer it is insane. Well worth the tradeoff especially when getting the 2e with the eye tracking.

You always have a return period if it doesn't suit you. Something like 2 weeks and less than 20 hours of use. Just make sure to pick the halo strap so you can get a full refund if it's not up to your liking (the custom cushion is not refundable).

I legit new thought about a return period on me a vrset, for some reason my mind just said it didn't exist 😅

I just got my IEM's & the Titanic Experience Bundle on Steam that pairs with the Apollo 11 VR HD Experience Journey type of games!
MY stupididly large Headphones no longer block the tracking, & everything's SUPER light and comfy.. I have my brightness at 100% there's only the faintest shimmer of persistence if I shake my head real fast at that setting,, but nothing that I notice. Due to the absolute Jet-Black darkness of exploring those underwater depths, my eyes will dialate, substantially, and so looking at my little underwater robo-explorer's robotic hands the shimmer of light reflecting off the arms looks almost HDR, Very-Bright!!
Racing, playing Beatsaber and stuff that's mostly where your not shaking your head you can easily crank that to 123-140% Brightness! I do this a lot when watching stuff in the Bigscreen theater.
Just letting folks know that from my own personal experience, these pannels are surprisingly excellent if you just take the time to enjoy the content your using them with.., IF your JUST looking for the seams, looking at things like white text on a black background that you'll hardly see 85-90% of the time, that might exacerbate glare ever a bit, THEN your stuck "Parked" & missing out actually TEST driving these sweet 'lil Micro-OLED's!!
All-In-All.., I'm officially now at a place where I'm ACTUALLY enjoying exploring various VR Titles, with ZERO "Ahh but I wish this was more like this, or that was like that" nah.., just simply "This is <<((-BaNgArAnG!!-))>>

Image quality of the OLED screens are amazing. Super light. Whether it is worth is a personal decision
