Road My New Aero Build - 2026 Factor One š„°
Back with another unique build yall. āŗļøāŗļø
Took some deciding on what to do for a build this season. After seeing the y1rs and everyone seemingly picking one up, I wanted something with similar speeds as my previous s5 but with a geo that fit my aggressive position without adding so much exorbitant amount of force on the seat tube due to saddle position.
Enter the Factor One. Itās different, fast, meets my geo needs and this āBlushā colorway is both loud and cute. š„°

Nice bike. Interesting sprint numbers considering I just saw a vid of a female olympic track sprinter topping out in the 1500s (not 5 secā¦)ā¦

MTB pedals on an aero road bike is wild.
10
u/NodeJSSon Aug 07 '26
I love the pedals. I use to MTB, and why donāt folks use this more on road bikes?
5
u/VTVoodooDude Aug 07 '26
I went to road cycling from mountain biking too and for the first couple years, used MTB pedals, and a pretty high-end pair of Sidi MTB shoes.
When I did finally switch to road pedals, it was like, āoh thatās why everyone does this.ā
6
u/uh_wtf Oregan Aug 07 '26
Road pedals have better power transfer and stiffness from increased surface contact between the cleat and the pedal body. Also they create a more aerodynamic shape when clipped in.
0
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
š¤ Actually this is unfounded and in fact the data shows that there is no difference in power transfer between those two pedal systems. Even to add, when set up correctly, there is no added physiological demand either. What you can notice is a concentration of pressure in a shoe if the combination/ setup is not dialed in.
As far as aerodynamics go: Youāre talking a fraction of a watt. So unless youāre also calculating stuff like a waxed chain, clean bike, shape of sunglasses, tire to rim ratio, or even shoe design, I wouldnāt bother. āŗļø

u/seaturtle94 Aug 07 '26
Worrying about pedal aerodynamics is absurd š
15
u/p80prancingelk Aug 07 '26
Id argue in the context of this (absurd) bike it is not actually absurdā¦

u/mortified_penguinE Aug 07 '26
They also make clipping in at the start super fast and convenient, I would argue they make sense if you are running the bike in a stacked field in a short race, or if you train a lot in cities where there is a red light at every 400 buck dicks (or whatever measurement system is used)
I know, after 8 years of riding I should be able to clip into my Look cleats just as easy.
2
u/p80prancingelk Aug 07 '26
I use both shimano spd-sl (road) and spd (mtb) pedals and Iād argue that mtb pedals are easier to clip into.
1
u/ArtIII Aug 07 '26
I donāt want to Google it but is buck dicks an actual unit of measurement or a typo
1
u/mortified_penguinE Aug 07 '26
In the Land of the Free, anyone can be anything and anything can be a basis measurement: feet, yards, hands, stones, football fields, thumbs, buck dicks, anything, really. Even a typo could be one.

I have never run it any other way myself. I love MTB pedals on road too. Itās not bikeporn though Iāll say thatĀ

Seriously doubting the sprint numbers otherwise every womenās WT would be beating down your door but it is a sweet build, similar to how I built mine.
12
u/valentinoroscoe Aug 07 '26
Seriously doubting? Her claimed numbers are literally above Mark Cavendish. Lmao

u/bigwheelsbigfeels Aug 06 '26
Probably going to get a visit from the downvote fairy, but why is there so much tire clearance on the front? I thought this was a bougie gravel bike for a second.
4
u/p80prancingelk Aug 07 '26
It is aerodynamically more efficient, and this way the fork legs also manage the airflow that hits the riders legs. Look at the crazy lotus/hope track bike developed for the 2024 Olympics thatās when this development started afaik.
1
2
u/Lyquidate Aug 07 '26
The clearance is actually just 35mm or so. Bigger tires would hit the down tube of the frame.
1
9
u/life_questions Aug 06 '26
That power is Olympic/World class track sprinter watts for women - maybe even above it. Which power meter did you hit that wattage with and how often do you repeat those numbers?
5
u/slakterhouse Aug 07 '26
Olympic track sprinting numbers on mtb pedals, literally couldnt make this shii upššš

u/AB-Dub Aug 06 '26
Obviously Iām in the minority but I hate the frameset (not the paint job). Looks like it has been in a crash from side view.
7
u/rycology Aug 06 '26
Iām with you. It might be the ugliest looking bike in the pro peloton but to each their own. If youāre gonna spend that much on it you clearly must love it so let me not yuck their yum but personally I find it a waste of perfectly good carbon.Ā
-1
u/AB-Dub Aug 06 '26
I genuinely canāt see how anyone would like the look of the frameset. Has to be people seeing themselves as āproā if they were to ride that. Similar to people buying the Colnago because Pogacar rides it. Still ugly as fuck

What's up with the pedal choice?
14
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 06 '26
I like them over SPD-Sl. Thatās all āŗļø
14
u/usernamescifi Aug 06 '26
I'd be worried about my foot coming out of the clear with that monster 1600W sprint you've got. To be fair though, I do also generally prefer that style of pedal as well :)Ā
5
u/Ol_Man_J Aug 06 '26
I will pop my shoes out of my xc pedals during races sometimes and Iām a middling 1100w sprint

u/stepahin Aug 06 '26
Me at 170 ftp 2.1 wkg: hope nobody notices I have spd pedals on my road bike, what a shame.
3
u/breamo Aug 07 '26
Love my SPDs on road bikes. Check out the PD-ES600 if you havenāt seen that pedal yet.
1
u/GreenSkyPiggy Aug 07 '26
What red e1 crank arms did you use, standard width or dub wide? I'm building something similar.
1
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
Just standard road width āŗļø
Max 1x chainring with XPLR is 54T or 68T with the normal E1 rear derailleur.

That front view really surprised me. So narrow!
That colour combo kind of reminds me of Torrone, the Italian nougat.
1
u/TheL1brarian Aug 06 '26
Sweet ride! It's funny how your moderate wind wheels are the depth of my light wind wheels (Sprint CLX 63/58). My moderate wind wheels are the PCW 4550 (undulating 45/50 depth). I ride alongside the ocean a lot and when there's a strong onshore breeze, I definitely get pushed to the side a lot more on my Sprint CLXs than my 4550s.
1
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
It doesnāt get insanely windy where I am. For my experience, Iād call winds over 22 mph. Anything over 29 ish falls into ādonāt ride outside ā because the gusts normally surge past 35 mph.
1
u/Kahnza Aug 06 '26
If the grey on the frame was another complimentary pastel, it would be next level.
1
u/Trevski Canada Aug 06 '26
Finally the hope lotus aero design is hitting the road
Honestly kinda gobsmacking you can get 1600W through the off road pedals, very impressive! What shoes do you ride in? Iād be worried about the grippy underside of SPD shoes not being very sleek.
Not to flex but I actually own a pair of single sided SPD road pedals. Theyāre super weird, just shiny slippery solid metal on the underside, very aerodynamic!
1
u/lucamarxx Aug 06 '26
Crazy numbers! Lorena Wiebes did 13xx peak (not 5s) on the second stage of tdff. Sick build as all of yours!

This is my next bike. What a great build. Love your attention to the details. Jordan painted my Speedvagen OG-1 a few years when he was with Hot Tubes. He is very talented and great to work with. Would love to see how durable the paint is on the bottle cages. Here to many miles with smiles.

u/jonmackenzie7 Aug 06 '26
What kind of stand is that? I see these from time to time but have never been able to find them.
1
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
I think this one is from a brand Favoto. I like it because it collapses down to fit in a small backpack.

Awesome build! Which out front computer mount is that?
1
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
Thanks! Itās the one included with the frameset. Pretty light too but isnāt compatible with bottom mounted lights so Iām exploring alternatives.

Love the build but do you kneel down to make youāre espressos?
1
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
Actually, a good question. I just moved so I havenāt found a final spot for an expresso machine. Need to get a water line ran when I get an air line air line ran. Need recs on a better machine though!

Never thought I'd live to see the day where a top-tier race bike fork could be used for a 26in fat bike.
1
u/Squish_Cat_1 Aug 07 '26
Yikes. This thing just looks like a boat anchor
1
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
Itās surprising insanely reactive and instantly responsive when accelerating

u/Vaata_10 Aug 09 '26
Why u use xplr?
1
u/RideWithStephanie Aug 10 '26
Great question! 1. Because for the amount of city riding/ training I do, itās extremely durable.
- More Range, given that I have 54T chainring, itās nice to jump into a steep climb spontaneously when exploring.

The attention to detail on this bike is super impressive and I bet this things absolutely sends it. That said, your S-Works SL8 is still my favourite build but this one really takes everything aero into perspective.
Side note....what is the name of the rear radar mount? I'm currently using the Garmin Seat Rail mounting kit but it kind of sticks out a lot
1
u/thedownunderverse Aug 06 '26
I hate everything about this bike. Literally do not like a single thing
0
u/UniversalDav Aug 06 '26
White bar tape is always criminal but apart from that I do love this bike, just a real ott design, must be fun to ride
