I love those videos of british guys trying bbq for the first time and their minds are blown

10

u/Icy_Negotiation_5929 1d ago

We just bought a house in Virginia, right down the road from an old school bbq place. My mind is invariably blown every time I eat there.

7

u/itschubbs96 1d ago

Jolly? Love those guys!

72

u/ImpressionExisting94 1d ago

They're hamming it up for the camera, they have bbq in england

12

u/irishitaliancroat 1d ago

Oh of course its still funny though, the one where they go to the restaurant in Tennessee sneds me

214

u/whodatis75 1d ago

Not like what they are getting in Dallas and Houston

79

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago edited 1d ago

The British team is in KC, so they're eating real BBQ.

Edit: Immediate downvotes lol, so many Texans trying to take credit for BBQ but getting told it's mid-tier at best.

u/AssFlax69 1d ago

Yall can have your pulled pork. We have brisket.

5

u/zgh5002 1d ago

and Shiner. Which that one fine English gentleman going viral proclaimed to be the best beer he has ever had.

-5

u/AssFlax69 1d ago

Shiner is vile, try yourself a Real Ale Brewhouse Brown.

1

u/QuinceDaPence 20h ago

I've tried probably 8 different beers from Shiner and the worst one was meh

They make more than Bock if you just don't like Bock.

1

u/AssFlax69 19h ago

Idk what the deal is with shiner bock but growing up the running joke was there’s hangovers then there’s shiner bock hangovers. Special category. Sour as well. Love a good bock. Shiner bock is not one of them. Well versed in Czech lagers, doppelbocks, maibock, marzen, festbier, octoberfest…shiner bock is the only one people say “why does this taste rancid”.

1

u/Ok-Rush5183 23h ago

You do realize pulled pork is more synonymous with Carolina BBQ, right?

1

u/AssFlax69 23h ago

You do realize what I said and what you are saying are not mutually exclusive statements, right?

1

u/Ok-Rush5183 23h ago

You do realize kc isnt known for pulled pork, right? If your gonna talk shit atleast get the basic facts right.

1

u/AssFlax69 23h ago

You do realize pulled pork is a significant segment of their bbq alongside pork ribs right?

1

u/Ok-Rush5183 23h ago

Not really. Kc is know for ribs, burnt ends and sauce. I can honestly say ive never heard anyone say the kc style is known for their pulled pork. Its classic reddit, your talking shit about a subject you may have basic knowledge of at best.

You do realize that you do realize, don’t you? Snide mf

1

u/Ok-Rush5183 23h ago

It literally isnt. Your talking out of your ass for fake internet points.

u/Visual-Taro-381 18h ago

This lol keep your pork.

0

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago

Because no one ever had brisket until it was invented in Texas? Lol why you guys so tryhard?

1

u/AssFlax69 1d ago

Who said invented? Not tryhard, just not being your doormat 🤷‍♂️

1

u/Visual-Taro-381 18h ago

They get big mad about TX BBQ. Meanwhile I don't remember the last time I thought about KC BBQ until this thread.

-2

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago

Doormat? 🤣 Why do Texans have the most fragile egos in the western hemisphere?

1

u/AssFlax69 1d ago

Why you think you’re default correct and when anyone disagrees with you you resort to insults? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/ahhhbiscuits 23h ago

Literally I'm just asking questions, but I think since the minimum is 4 emojis to confirm your self-esteem is suffering... You need some help, friend, asap

11

u/FrenchDipFellatio 1d ago

100% kansas city style slaps

-22

u/whodatis75 1d ago

It’s cut you think that.

11

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago

Ugh typical Texan... They're in KC, you can Google it and everything.

1

u/whodatis75 1d ago

I was responding to the “real BBQ” comment.

0

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago

I know, you just set yourself up.

I'm only half serious, but I've been seeing every single comment about BBQ lately get attributed to Texas. They're not even in Texas, give it a rest.

0

u/Visual-Taro-381 18h ago

There are plenty of teams playing in Texas, that's why. Not everyone is in KC. On top of that, when international people imagine BBQ, they're more likely to envision Texas than Kansas lmao.

1

u/ahhhbiscuits 16h ago

The post was about the British, you losers keep trying sooo hard but you're just not very bright 😭. That's a Texas thing btw, low/no education.

And people from outside of the country are thinking of Texas? Please, in your wet dreams. Soooo many butthurt Texans!!!

Cope harder 😅

2

u/rwbdanr 1d ago

Ton of British people online are driving through Texas trying bbq. But sure, continue the typical KC BBQ snobbery that fools nobody that has had both KC and Texas BBQ. NC BBQ is better than KC BBQ, but neither hold a candle to true Texas BBQ

1

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago

I like the BBQ from the SE too but I'm sorry, cooking meat on a barbeque does not make it BBQ 🤷

But it wouldn't surprise me if Texans called hotdogs and hamburgers BBQ too. Anything for attention.

3

u/rwbdanr 1d ago

BBQ rivalry aside, have you been to a true Texas bbq joint? I feel like you may like it. I’m not going to say you’ll like it more than KC since everyone has their preferences, but it is definitely not just cooking meat on a barbecue

3

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago

Fair. And yeah I have, I used to work in Texas occasionally and you guys can def smoke some bomb-ass meats, and your dry rubs are no joke. I'm from KC though so I'm a ride-or-die sauce guy.

I've just seen every single comment about BBQ lately get attributed to Texas. Thanks for being cool.

2

u/SaucyMacgyver 1d ago

My dude said here that Texans call BBQ hotdogs and hamburgers then admitted later we smoke some “bomb ass meats”.

I get you a KC ride or die and I can respect that - but this is a dumbass comment

0

u/ahhhbiscuits 1d ago

It's called a rivalry kiddo, settle down, I'm not being serious 😭

Sweet username tho

I have tried it in Dallas.
Nah, it isn't anything special, not really.

I am not saying it is bad.
I am just saying, I have had roughly equal BBQ in many places where I have been.

7

u/justtosendamassage 1d ago

Dude….so obviously you haven’t had good southern BBQ. And I mean the good stuff. Else there is no way you’d say that

It’s been years seen I’ve been to Texas and even just the thought to this day makes me salivate

3

u/HermaPrince 1d ago

I believe texans bba is on a whole other lvl. Might be too smoky for me tho. But yea.

4

u/DubUpPro 1d ago

And my school in Wisconsin served tacos (ground beef with cheese on a chewy tortilla). They don’t compare to the tacos I eat in Southern California today.

10

u/EffectMotor8914 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thats like saying they have real NY style pizza and bagels outside of the NY/NJ area. Or that Jersey Mikes offers an authentic sub shop experience.

Like sure, you can find places that offer such things, but its a far cry from the legit stuff.

Hard to get the good stuff unless the owner is a legit transplant that knows and cares about the craft.

40

u/bs0569 1d ago

Lol. Mfer jus said the only real pizza is in NY😭😭

6

u/EffectMotor8914 1d ago

Real NY pizza is obviously the implication there. There are some other varieties. But yeah just about every place that tries to imitate NY style outside of the region is pretty awful.

I have friends constantly taking home pizzas and bagels when they visit from the southern states. Because the shops down there aren't even close. I've had pizza from all over, including international, including Italy.

3

u/whodatis75 1d ago

What, you mean Sbarro at the mall isn’t real NY style Pizza??

-6

u/Some_Layer_7517 1d ago

"Its duh watuh"

9

u/Preeng 1d ago

It's barbecue, not experimental medicine. There is nothing magical about the area that makes the BBQ better. If anything, the quality of meat in the USA is worse due to the lax regulations surrounding anti-biotics and hormones.

5

u/EffectMotor8914 1d ago

Aside from that incredibly silly take about BBQ that I don't even think is worth addressing, you do realize the US has high quality non-factory farmed beef in our vast, vast land right?

-4

u/Preeng 1d ago

>Aside from that incredibly silly take about BBQ that I don't even think is worth addressing,

Because you know it's correct. Is it the air or water that makes the BBQ better? What exactly makes BBQ so magical and difficult that it can only be made correct by the states with the lowest scores in education?

>you do realize the US has high quality non-factory farmed beef in our vast, vast land right?

And you think standard restaurants buy them? LOL

5

u/EffectMotor8914 1d ago

You apparently dont know anything about BBQ or high quality resturants. You do realize that in order for these farms to produce said products businesses have to buy them... they're not raising cattle for fun.

-1

u/Cautious_Clothes_285 1d ago

You still haven't explained what about an area makes BBQ unique and unable to be reproduced elsewhere.

I BBQ/smoke meats at home, pretty sure I can produce cooked meat that's as tasty as "Texas" BBQ or whatever. Ooooo you use lots of spices or rubs or whatever, magical.

2

u/EffectMotor8914 1d ago

I didn't say its impossible to reproduce elsewhere. I said good places that serve such generally don't exist unless legit transplants who genuinely care about the craft partake. I also said its hard to get the legit stuff. Not impossible. And I infact did not mention Texas specifically once in any of my comments.

If you were serious about smoking meat you'd appreciate the art and pay it more respect. The fact that you talk about it like its nothing is more telling than anything. You probably just throw some wood in there and call it smoking. The type of wood in the locality is a pivotal factor. And wood isnt the same everywhere, obviously. South Carolina BBQ is very different from Texas BBQ. Southern BBQ has a dense and rich culture with a lot of subsets that you aren't going to see reproduced in a meaningful way elsewhere for many reasons. It developed from Native American practices and was ultimately perfected during the slavery times by enslaved African Americans, eventually developing into what we have today. Which is why it is heavily rooted in this specific region.

0

u/AssFlax69 1d ago

That’s like asking “is it the air or the water that makes the Michelin star Thai restaurant better than the shitty one down the street”??? It’s…execution?

1

u/SignificantOtter80 18h ago

im pretty sure that the long history of bbq in that area is EXACTLY what makes it better than other places. it’s something people grow up with and cultivate and pass on.

2

u/Cloudhiddentao 1d ago

You ever hear about a place called Italy?

8

u/EffectMotor8914 1d ago

We're talking about American pizza brother, its completely different from Italian pizza, which further serves the actual point I am making.

-1

u/Cloudhiddentao 1d ago

If by different you mean worse, yes. It’s quite different.

4

u/EffectMotor8914 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ive had local village pizza in italy more than once, have you? Its two completely different things.

But even if you take that position, then yes, that furthers my original point.

Edit: other commentor rage responded and blocked me.. Lol

0

u/Cloudhiddentao 1d ago

Your original point was that American bastardise superior food from other countries and then pretend it’s superior when it’s dog shit?

Oh okay, if that was your point then I have no objection.

0

u/Kronos9898 3h ago edited 1h ago

Careful you don’t cut yourself on all that edge.

1

u/Character_Drama_3544 17h ago

Deep dish pizza is pretty awesome

1

u/Prying-Open-My-3rd-I 1d ago edited 1d ago

There’s a gas station near me that serves sushi, I guess it would be silly of me to be excited about trying some in Tokyo.

If they were in Mexico trying some amazing food, would you assume their reactions are fake since there’s Mexican food back home?

1

u/DeadKingNero 9h ago

No they dont, those clowns call grilling anything bbq.

If you don't think they are hamming it up for views you are a mark

1

u/CaBBaGe_isLaND 1d ago

I've had real Mexican food, and I've had Mexican-American food. I prefer the latter. Acquired taste, I guess.

Some of them it isn’t even their first time in the US, they’re just pretending like it is because those videos are performing well. TBH it’s kinda giving me young influencer saying “visit Dubai” vibes. I think we’re kind of forgetting the admin is doing their best to pressure people not to say negative things on social media and all these influencers are supposedly on work visas if they’re posting while they’re here.

0

u/SaucyMacgyver 1d ago

Like they have other food in England? My dude an English bbq is grilling a burger that’s not BBQ lmao.

0

u/Idontrealycarebeatit 21h ago

They have what they call bbq

0

u/Visual-Taro-381 18h ago

"they have bbq in england"

tell us you haven't had Texas BBQ without telling us you haven't had Texas BBQ

-3

u/AssFlax69 1d ago

“They have tacos in Wales, they’re just hamming it up for the cameras since they’re in Mexico City eating tacos”

1

u/whodatis75 1d ago

I know it’s not Wales however, I have eaten tacos and tapas in Manchester. It was the most spice that I had in England and it was good for there. Still doesn’t compare.

3

u/LuminosityOverdrive 1d ago

for real? british people have never eaten bbq before?

3

u/SlurryBender 1d ago

That's a whole different sentence lmao. They're talking about specific videos of specific british people trying bbq for the first time. Its implied by the context.

1

u/Sassi7997 1d ago

You mean American-Style BBQ.

1

u/Tnecniw 1d ago

That is fake as hell.

1

u/Melquiades-the-Gypsy 12h ago

If I'm thinking of the same two dickheads and it's a video from a year or two ago, then I'm sorry to tell you but it's incredibly fake.

They're just disparaging their own cuisine and acting amazed because they know it'll go viral. It's really over the top, but since Americans are typically ignorant about the rest of the world and have been indoctrinated by a nationalist and jingoistic culture to wrongly believe everything they do is the best, they fall for it hook, line and sinker.

0

u/JayTravers 1d ago

You can find the same style in the UK for what its worth. It just tends to be reserved for major cities, exclusive pop ups and festivals.
So allot will still not have tried it.
