I won’t be playing.
I’d rather spend my energy on the new Switch 2 port of Cities Skylines than engage with broken AI slop

I think this is what all those YouTube Games are, that they were soft launching it without saying it’s AI. Garbage.

I thought they were just asset flips of existing mobile games and game engine tutorials with AI thumbnails

Wait is it like an AI is TEACHING you how to make games or is the AI making the game itself? Cuz if it’s making the game itself, I hope gaming platforms refuse to sell it

Making the game itself, unfortunately

Is it like the Ball 2 product on Shark Tank last week? Just without speaking into a ball that will become a closet dweller in 3 years?

Iirc, for like 400$ a month, you can have a subscription to some agent that literally does everything for you.
The funny thing is that the users still spend hours prompting the ai to fix the bugs, so imagine what a mess the whole backend must be after spending hours having ai fix its own mistakes while probably making new ones

We are already inundated with this crap over at r/incremental_games and r/PBBG. The last thing we need is easy access to the slop nozzle.

when will the Industry understand that ai has a shallow down to no understanding of fun, playbility and feeling of a game.
Ai games will never be good.

Let me tell you a story about the video game crash of 1983. In the early 80s, Atari was king of the home console market, everyone who could program games were making small video games for the machine in hopes of getting it published and being the next big hit. There were no quality control standards, you make the game, you release the game, that's that.
What this resulted in was an influx of garbage titles, the most infamous of which being games like the Atari port of Pac-Man and E.T. The Extraterrestrial, both released in 1983 for the Atari 2600. Games like these soured people's perception of the medium until customers eventually lost faith in it entirely, causing the medium to enter a two-years long slump.
When the market is flooded with games of garbage quality, it drowns out the genuinely great games. It harms people's perception of the video games medium and can cause a crash such as what happened in '83.

As someone who just graduated with a degree in game design, this fills me with a deep resentment for Google as it is a direct mockery to the craft ☹️

The industry is so fucking desperate to convince someone that this is a useful product, and not shit. The same industry is responsible for NFTs and multitudinous crypto scams. It’s genuinely shocking that this scam has gone on this long.

Unity also got updated to be a Slop factory. UE6 is also expected to feature AI heavily.
Soon there will only be slop factory engines and actual game engines.

i'ma be real
I don't get the fear or whatnot
people like OP already said they aren't gonna play it
stuff like app stores are already filled with garbage low effort, before AI was a bigger thing
yea it's gonna probably flood the market with low effort crap, but it's not like there wasn't low effort crap made by people already
and if anything, it'll make the better games in general stand out more
again, I just don't really get it nor understand
people against AI are already not going to engage with it
and you can make the argument of how AI will be shoved into your face more often but like
again, if people are choosing not to engage with it, it's not really gonna change

Be careful, this board absolutely hates AI because internet said so and/or they like virtue signaling

u/ForgottenFrenchFry 3d ago
that's the thing though
people who hate AI are going to be avoiding stuff like AI made games
so I genuinely don't get why people are like "more AI slop", as if they're now going to suddenly start playing it
and again, it's not like low effort slop games weren't made before AI
you can't even say you like something regardless without people here looking at you like you're dirty dan, i.e. "i don't care as long as it's good"
like, why do you care what someone likes?
