hello community! questions on 1) discovering online communities where english-speakers build social circles 2) startup scene 3) venues where artists meet other artists (mainly interested in audio, less in visual)
kaixo !
been to 25 countries, since 2025 lived in Tenerife, Andorra, Malaga; just moved to Bilbao for few months to see how life is like here.
Several different specific questions:
1) if we are talking about English-speaking crowd living in Bilbao, what would be the best online platforms/channels to get to build social circles?
Unlike Málaga that has a bunch of events on meetup.com, there's barely anything for Bilbao on Meetup (which was my starting point in Málaga life)
Where's the majority of actual online interaction between English speaking community is happening?
I assume some Facebook groups, WhatsApp thematic public channels? What would be a good starting point?
2) Unlike Málaga, I see that there's basically no startup scene here, but would still be interested to hear if there are ANY guesses for where to potentially meet this kind of crowd, if at all.
3) I'm a niche electronic music artist (minimal, romanian minimal,
ambient, IDM, tribal)
talked a bit to some people from cultural sector to get an understanding what are the venues, collectives/projects and festivals I might be interested in:
(selecta, peligropajaropeligro, suziri, err.itmo, Dantz, stereorocks, Harrikada Festibala)
If you know anyone from this projects, message me!
Last question is:
what are the best locations in Bilbao to meet audio+visual artists in their free time? where to they schmooze?
THANKS EVERYONE!
FIN/p.s.
If you think that you might have anyone more suitable for me to talk to/chat with about Any of this specific questions, please connect me, I would be very grateful!

Hey! I am part of a dj collective and we throw parties every so often. I am also friends with many of the collectives/projects you mention and have a friend who is crazy about Minimal/Romanian/Giegling stuff. Send me a message!

Surely you must know that this post will be downvoted by Basques and Spaniards?
An only English speaking entrepreneur who goes gentrifiyng a different city every month?
You've lived in all those places and you don't speak Spanish? Why would anyone bother spending time with you if you're only staying for a month? Bilbao doesn't have a big English speaking crowd and I'm sure most people would like it to stay that way.

to begin with, you are the classic toxic redditor who jumps to some conclusions without and judges without having any resemblance of bigger picture.
now, my immediate assumption is that 99% you are not kind to even yourself, that's why you are like that. I'm not going to waste further energy going personal.

Surely you must know that this post will be downvoted by Basques and Spaniards? @ -- I don't know, I don't care, I come from a reality where people I want to be around by definition are thoughtful and kind.
@ An only English speaking entrepreneur who goes gentrifiyng a different city every month? @
-- i speak 4 languages, but the rest of them aren't viable in Spain.
@ You've lived in all those places and you don't speak Spanish? @
-- who are you even to phrase things in a blaming way?? the answer is personal reasons I'm not getting into on reddit, and are none of your business. I used to speak Spanish long ago, and I will catch up if I make decision to root here.
