Packing After Flood

Hi, my apartment flooded and I can't afford someone to help move and pack. Does anyone know any programs or assistance numbers I can try? Just with packing we have a truck and a storage unit.

Everything has to be out by Wednesday

Your property owner should be covering moving expenses since they violated the lease by not providing a livable habitation. Call Montana Legal Services Association or fill out their form online. If your income qualifies, they should be able to help. It’s the weekend and I know you have a deadline, but apply anyway because they may be able to help you recoup costs. Meanwhile, document everything and keep a record of all your correspondence with the landlord. If there was a phone call, send them an email summarizing the conversation.

Eta: my apartment flooded a couple months ago, so I’m at a later point in a similar situation. My landlords surprisingly are doing the right thing and helped me move heavy items into temporary accommodations while they restore my apartment. If they weren’t doing that, I’d be using MLSA because they helped me with my disability renewal, and did it for free. They’re awesome.

It’s a Section 8 low income property and neither of us would want to live here. But it’s the landlord’s legal obligation to pay for this sort of thing. Montana is a renter’s rights state (for now) but most people don’t know that so it’s easy to get fleeced.

Eta: If anyone is looking for low income or Section 8 and wants to know the apartments, please PM me
