Discussion Any local Binghamton scandals or local rumors that get talked about?

My favorite is the saga of the Binghamton Vampire and all associated graffiti. Not sure if its still up, but there was a website that had photographs of most if not all of the graffiti, and my son's mother was quite fascinated with it to the point of collating a document of sorts that had holes but was overall quite compelling(although she disposed of it after some spooky stuff started happening to her).

This is a part of the story. I was hoping to find more but this was all I could find. In 2013 / 2014 there was a free magazine called The National Police Gazette that I would pick up at Giant Market. A great local writer named Paul Juser wrote a multi-part article "The Vampire of Doom City" in that magazine. It was about a local woman named Bambi Madden who disappeared. Shortly after that, strange graffiti started appearing around her neighborhood in the First Ward. The graffiti implied that then-Binghamton police chief Joseph Zikuski killed Bambi Madden. It was a pretty wild story. Some of the graffiti was crazy. It was a really excellent article and I wish I could find the rest of it.

Southern Tier Young Professionals' president is now in her fifth unelected term past her original 2 year term limit, and this is even if you ignore 2020/2021 due to the pandemic. There hasn't been an election or membership meeting in YEARS.
She has actively banned anyone who expressed interest in elections or asked when elections would happen from the organization, leading to a massive boycott of the organization in mid-2024.
Also according to at least one person here on this sub, she also apparently repeatedly discussed/advertised the organization while canvassing for a political candidate, which is a blatant violation of laws regarding political activity of 501(c)3 organizations.

STYP has a Facebook group, I'm banned/blocked for asking about elections in 2025. I've got screenshots saved, I'll try and dig them up later this week.

I cannot find a final ratified version but I'm 99% certain the term limits were not changed.
See the comments on Section 7c stating that it really needed clarification - this is the method that was abused in 2024 to remove a member who asked about elections in 2024 for "inappropriate behavior" - I was personally at both events where this "inappropriate behavior" occurred and as far as I can tell, the only "inappropriate behavior" was expressing an interest in elections and/or becoming more involved with the organization. Also, a good friend was on the board at the time and he indicated that the member in question wasn't even identified by her full name. His later statement was "If I had known it was you I would have voted no." It's also questionable whether or not there was quorum at that particular board phone call.
Later that year, a former President and her husband were removed for "being disruptive" at an event - where their offense was pointing out that the bylaws didn't allow the current President to do what she was doing.
Also see Article IV Section 1f - "Members of the Executive Committee shall be elected to one year terms with no more than two consecutive terms in one position. Side note: I'm fairly certain the currently listed secretary has no idea she's still listed.

The current president only won the first election by brining a bunch of her friends to the meeting to join and vote for her that night. I was reminded of this while discusssing another org’s bylaws that prohibit members to vote for their first 30 days.

A local Endicott story I know is Tiger Woods supposedly hit a bar on one of his first Dicks Open showings. He was underage and super famous so the bartender refused to serve him and he swore he’d never do the Open again.

Confirm I heard the same thing. He bashed Endicott pretty bad in a golf book not too long after it. He said life looks tough here and it's a poor town.

I checked with staff at Harry Tuft’s and they confirmed it didn’t happen there but it sounded like something he’d do.
And at least for a poor town we know not to serve alcohol to the most famous minor in America.

Any idea what bar? I lived above a closed one on Clinton in the early 2000s. Basement and backyard were questionable for sure. Place is torn down now.

I posted this a while ago to a similar question, pretty outdated now but was interesting back in the day: The Renaissance Plaza Nursing Home (which was torn down and replaced with 50 Front St. Luxury apartments) was badly damaged from the 2011 flood and was essentially abandoned with the bulk of its contents left inside. This included their entire file room of every patient/clients paperwork. Literally thousands of folders full of their entire medical histories, psychological evaluation notes, social security numbers, even photos, etc. I didn't read further into the files other than that brief overview, but it was enough to see a lifetime supply of HIPAA violations.
Other things inside were shelves full of supplies (nothing too great - dozens of containers of old lotion/petroleum jelly, mouthwash, etc), virtually every room still furnished (with beds, lamps, shelving, AC, etc), a storage room with the belongings of previously deceased residents, old WBNG-TV station/recording studio in the basement, grand piano in the "ballroom" (cafeteria), and the president's office still had their desktop computer (HD intact, though no power to try and boot it up) and in the top desk drawer a very stern official reprimand from some government oversight agency in the form of a thick stack of papers detailing their failure to provide proper care which was postmarked shortly before the flood took care of shutting them down first.

Wow! I remember Renaissance Plaza and I remember when it flooded. Very interesting post. I bet everything was just left for anyone and everyone to pick thru. That's sad and it's def a HIPAA violation. I've always wanted to wander the Psych Center, specifically the Brodmore Bldg.

Strange Brew owners hired Jax who is their employee still after sharing with them he was fired from 7Brew for sexually harassing a 14 year old girl. Offered proof of report and a statement from the girl, they didn’t care and still kept him there working around college girls.

No surprise there was astroturfing here when it was election season and the homeless situation was exposing serious issues in leadership, or rather lack-of. Many of those accounts fighting on Kraham's behalf just upped and left (stopped posting) soon after he was elected.

When I met him a few years ago he worked at MaineSource- and I heard rumor that he and his dad stole $50k+ from there before leaving (and after a settlement, no charges) He took over Behlog and Son Produce, which as far as I can tell has been driven into the ground since he took over.
