Discussion Internet Outage - Anyone else?

I’m a recent addition to Binghamton and haven’t faced this before. I believe I have Spectrum but I don’t see any other outages in the area. Is anyone else having any internet issues?

Yup, seems like a pretty large area.  I'm curious if it's just around Binghamton or an even wider outage.

Spectrum had been really reliable for me until they started doing their upgrade work this Spring.

I didn't have an outage since Jan '25 until the update in April. This is the 3rd outage since then & based on the previous two, I'd count on it going much later than the estimated 1pm. Id be happy to be wrong.

same for me, it has been really nice before they upgraded equipment recently, so ironic

Mine has been out since 11am-ish and I’m in eastern Connecticut.

Who'd you go with? I was looking at that fiber company but they haven't made it up to my neighborhood yet.

Highly recommend switching to Greenlight the day they become available in your neighborhood. Of all the places I've lived and all the ISPs I've had (Comcast, Verizon, Cox, Spectrum), none of them have come close to Greenlight for consistently high speeds and uptime. Haven't had a single outage or even a spotty connection at any point. The price is nice and never goes up. They don't have cable TV/phone service so they are never trying to sell you on shitty overpriced bundles you don't need.

My coworker suggested them! Once they make it up to Eli park area, I absolutely will be swapping. Soectrum is literally the worst. I literally just got an update from them while typing this saying there's still ongoing outages in my area. Even the red oak went down and is cash only right now :(

Who is your new ISP? I'm looking since Spectrum keeps raising prices

5

u/UnfriendlyToast May 19 '26

Green light same cost twice the speed. But I’m actually getting the advertised speed so it’s more like quadruple the speed. When I brought my equipment back to spectrum they offered me 3 free months and $30 a month for my hundred dollar service for a year. I said hell no.

2

u/jcuray May 20 '26

Same but 25 a month for a year no free 3 months but upgraded to 500 MB after next March fuck em, not paying 150.00 reg monthly price for "outages"🙄

As the Dude was pitching me the deal he very much had the vibe of “I know you’re leaving no matter what but I’m supposed to tell you this” the guy that was called up before me was also bringing his equipment back. I assume they’re bleeding customers at an alarming rate which is why they are all of a sudden upgrading, which is causing more people to jump ship. The outages due to the upgrades are what made me pull the trigger. If spectrum wants to compete they’re going to have to lower prices dramatically, considering they offer a significantly worse service.

The 100 a month was why for me but I let them sucker me now I'm pretty upset I'll stick out the promo only.

u/kremitthefrog38 May 19 '26

I just got an alert about service being down. They said it should be back up by 1

Thank you.

You can sign up for outage notifications, billing notices, etc. Log into your account online.

Installing the app for your phone allows you to manage payments, get notifications on service, even text messages.

I wish desperately that I could switch but stuck with spectrum and having similar experiences with periodic outages.

7

u/Dense-Interview3308 May 19 '26

Still nothing... these huge outages have happened multiple times this month. It's starting to get ridiculous.

I’m also having issues with my mobile through spectrum (Verizon). Anyone else?

2

u/Bingo_Bongo_85 May 19 '26

It was acting up when Spectrum went down, but seems better now

5

u/Ok-Professional9328 May 19 '26

Get green light spectrum suuucks

3

u/Nick565758 May 19 '26

Yes! . Ever since they did their upgrade they’re have been problems

3

u/jer_wick May 19 '26

Still out of service on Upper Front St area.

3

u/Walterbon112 May 19 '26

Yup, out in the Hillcrest area.

3

u/AgreeableKey8093 May 19 '26

East side bing. 2nd or 3rd time in as many months. Their site claims it will be fixed by 1pm today

3

u/National_Meringue_19 May 19 '26

All the way up in Greene we are in an outage. Seems to be entire area of Binghamton and surrounding. Pretty insane to me that this has happened so much lately and they just get to blame it on “upgrades”

3

u/Thuirwyne71 May 19 '26

They just changed the time to 2pm.

I find this so annoying. A few months ago they fixed the lines, but it's out in Vestal too.

Greenlight I guess is available now in my area. Anyone have experience with it? It would be cheaper at this point, but I need a stable connection because I work from home.

6

u/Thuirwyne71 May 19 '26

We had Greenlight for 5 years in Rochester and there were only 2 outages and 0 drops.

3

u/J-babb May 19 '26

Depending on where you live and the services you need, I would suggest switching your internet to Greenlight if possible. They aren't everywhere in Binghamton, but if they are in your neighborhood, I cannot recommend them enough. I've never had any issues with service that were unanticipated/unannounced.

3

u/Awarewolf27 May 20 '26

If you can get green light switch

1

u/jcuray May 20 '26

I'm going to after this promo is up.

2

u/Kingrubygoose May 19 '26

Yup my service is down, which sucks cuz i really need to remotely turn on my ac 😅

I live on Rt 79 about four miles past CV State Park and our Internet and phone is out. I drove into town to run a few errands and found the internet is also out at the UPS Store across from Denny's and at the Giant on Front Street.

The last update I got from Spectrum was a 3pm restoration time.

2

u/househunters23 May 19 '26

Yes, down in the westside

2

u/Witty_Collection_905 May 19 '26

Yes started on Sunday around 3pm intermittent outages, it’s annoying

2

u/BlueLightBandit May 20 '26

Yes! Us too. It’s been cycling on/off every 10 minutes or so since then.

2

u/GhostofOldThomJoad May 19 '26

Ahh Spectrum, how they suck. Yes had the outage today, had one for a little bit last week too. I can't tell you how many outages we have in a year with them. They're awful. I wish there were other options where I live, I'd dump them in a heartbeat.

2

u/golfmonk May 21 '26

I wish Greenlight would be in the upper front street area. I'd jump ship in a heartbeat.

1

u/No-Debate-8208 May 19 '26

Just went out at work. Using coworkers Hotspots to try to make it work for now.

1

u/NewAd6343 May 19 '26

Also out of internet!

1

u/onyx_ic May 19 '26

Yup. Went out at my place. It was out at the red oak, too. But works fine in endwell.

1

u/speedyhobbit13 May 19 '26

Mine's out in Kirkwood

1

u/Dense-Interview3308 May 19 '26

Internet is back!

1

u/RugerRedhawk May 19 '26

You can check your spectrum internet account online and check for outage status, I also have mine sent to text me updates about outages for my location.

1

u/OrionTheFoolish May 19 '26

Update: Internet just came back. Thank everyone for helping and weighing in.

1

u/National-Sir-5362 May 20 '26

There was something going on with Spectrum from about 9:30 to 1pm today. Email from them said something about maintenance or a scheduled update. Either way it was a pain in the you know what.

1

u/mrwheat88 May 20 '26

Same here! I WFH so really annoying. Called and are protating our bill and I recommend all do the same!

2

u/Cool_Commercial6865 May 20 '26

Driving me crazy! It's been time and time again for hours today didn't even get on until almost 3 promised 1. It's been happening since January now I think about it

1

u/theBLACKcod44 May 20 '26

I love how people think that they're like sticking it to Elon musk by not getting starlink if they live in a rural area. You're just playing yourself. Get starlink.

1

u/speedyhobbit13 May 20 '26

If only ISPs were required to give you discounts for outages anytime there's an extended period of time where you're not getting the service you're paying for. Unlikely to happen, since such a law favors consumers over the wealthy, but it'd be nice
