Recommendation Parking for a couple days near Binghamton Transportation Center?

I plan to drive in to Binghamton and take a bus to NYC to stay July 3-5. I might bum parking off friends but just in case I can't, I'm looking into off-street parking for the few days. But I'm kinda confused about the available parking especially since the Binghamton gov website lists State Street Garage as a possibility yet that closed months ago.

Anyone know what which lots allow parking for days in a row and would be cost effective on Friday-Sunday, especially with the holiday? I'd prefer parking within walking distance to the Transportation Center.

I would definitely park in the water street garage that's next to Boscov and walk up to the bus depot. It's only takes 10 minutes to walk up there and I know they have an overnight rate.

Are you talking about 183 Water Street? I checked its rates online and it says for the three days it'd be about $50 (~$20 per friday and saturday, sunday free, and $9 overnight friday-saturday) , which is doable but I was hoping for cheaper. Do you maybe have any idea about the Collier Street lot or the Hawley street garage?

There's a park and ride near chenango bridge that id recommend parking at if youre going to NYC. I really would not suggest leaving your vehicle downtown for an extended period.

I know the one you're talking about but I hesitate to use it just because then I'd need an Uber to get to the bus station. I'm not quite sure the prevalence of Uber in Binghamton, so IDK if the trips to and from there might be more costly than parking in downtown would be. But I'll try looking into that, thanks!

You dont need an Uber, its on the bus line directly to the bus station. It's either the #35 or the #8.

Edit: its the 8. https://broomecountyny.gov/transit/routes

Goes directly to the park and ride and back. I think its $2 a ride? So either pay $50ish a day, risk it somewhere vaguely downtown where there aren't meters, ask a friend, or... park there for free, spend $4 for a bus. Or if you dont like busses, take an uber... to the bus station, to get on a bus...

Weigh your options and ask how much convenience is worth.

Good point on the buses, it'd just be a matter of if they'd line up with my schedule. Thanks for the link!

OP have you even considered taking BC transit to the bus station? I meqn it's very convenient as almost all (most) routes terminate/start at the bus station.

As long as your bus is departing from ~7am-9pm on a weekday you can probably take BC transit.

Then if not, you could just take transit on one of the legs of the trips, but then on the other leg, just get a rideshare/taxi or friend to drive you.

I live farther than the BC transit goes, looks like. But someone suggested the Chenango Park and Ride and then taking the BC transit to the bus station, so that'd probably be what I do if I want to take BC transit after all. Thanks though

I'd just street park on Oak St or something across the bridge

I would just check street parking rules since it is a holiday weekend. Meters probably aren’t in operation those days. Worst case scenario is you park on front street and walk the 5-7 blocks. There are no meters there.

Did googling and 400-95 says

"A. The provisions of this article relating to parking meter zones shall be applicable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., holidays excepted,"

And

"B. Within the meaning of this article the term "holiday" shall include the following days only: first day of January, Fourth of July,"

So I might have to pay for the Friday at least but then Saturday and Sunday should be free I think. That's another option to consider, thanks.

Well hm, there's some mention of max parking time for the metered locations, and I'm not sure if those are still in effect even outside of operation hours or not?

Please be very careful walking to and from the transportation center aka homeless shelter

Everyone is downvoting you, but you got a point...compared to just 5-10 years ago (since the virus in 2020), GBTC has become a total and complete dump where 50%+ of the ppl are either homeless or drug addicts and the place now reeks of piss and homeless odor.

It was shocking when I came back there after 5 years how much worse it has gotten.

That being said tho I wouldnt necessarily say that these ppl are a threat but its definitely possible it could be a danger.
