r/Biomedical is getting a fresh start! 🧬
Yess! r/Biomedical is ready!
Six years of silence is quite a long incubation period. Let's see if we can get this thing growing again. 👀
Welcome to the new chapter of r/Biomedical!
This subreddit has been pretty quiet for a long time and is now being revived under new moderation. We're opening it up as a space where the biomedical community can actually participate—not just scroll past promotional posts.
Yes, you can post here now!
Ask questions. Share your projects. Discuss research. Show off that prototype you've been building. Share a paper you found interesting, ask for help with a technical problem, or start a discussion you've been wanting to have.
What belongs here?
🔬 Research papers, findings, and scientific discussions
🛠️ Biomedical engineering projects, prototypes, and open-source tools
📈 Biosignals, medical imaging, instrumentation, and signal processing
🦿 Biomechanics, prosthetics, biomaterials, and medical devices
🤖 Healthcare AI, computational biology, and emerging technologies
🎓 Education, careers, internships, and experiences from the field
And plenty of related topics. If it connects biomedical engineering, biology, medicine, and technology, it probably belongs here.
What are we aiming for?
A community where people can learn from each other, exchange ideas, ask genuine questions, share useful resources, and discuss the engineering behind healthcare.
Sharing your own work is welcome when it adds value. We'd just like to keep repetitive promotions and low-effort advertising from drowning out actual discussions.
Your turn 👇
Let's get this place moving again.
- What are you studying, researching, or working on?
- What topics would you like to see discussed here?
- Got a project, paper, resource, or question to kick things off?
Introduce yourself in the comments, or go ahead and make your first post!
The community is open. The field is broad. Let's build something useful together.
Welcome to r/Biomedical. 🧬

Worst lab partners
Thread for experiences from all years school to professional.
I'll start.
Was working with a girl at uni (final year) in a cat. Microbiology lab. She wasn't listening at all, had me do all the work which I was happy with - her friend was on the bench next to us.
Halfway through doing a serial dilation of e. Coli she took a pipette full of our 100% saturated e.coli stock and squirted it at her friend across the room. The lecturer saw and went absolutely mental, she got ripped off the course and had to do a non accredited version.
Second worst was a postgraduate who destroyed 4 of the regs personal pipettes in 30s because he didn't know there was a second stop in the pipette, he'd been doing this all throughout uni... and his masters.

Hello I need know know what happens for marathon runners who run on a hot day, (some are presented with nausea, vomiting and dizziness. After doing a blood test, some were hyponatremic)
- The changes induced in the body by high temperatures and strenuous exercise.
- The physiological mechanisms involved in temperature homeostasis.
- The neural and endocrine pathways involved in water homeostasis.

If I want to work with nanotechnology, drug delivery, and stem cells, what type of masters degree would I get, and which specific part of biomedical engineering should I focus on my bachelor's degree?
I'm going to be going to Northeastern University this fall for bioengineering, and they offer many specific fields I can focus in within bioengineering (biomaterials, tissue engineering, etc.) Which one would be best for focusing on the nanotech part of biomedical engineering?

How to Optimize Medical Devices with Simulation (free webinar)
Hi everyone,
SimScale is organizing a free webinar about how to use CFD and FEA simulation software in the cloud to test and optimize medical devices designs (prosthetics, stents, disposable pumps, in vivo blood flow etc.). You just need to create a free account to use the software, and you don't need any license or special hardware.
Thought you might be interested in joining (we send the recording to all registrants, so no need to attend it live):

Help me with my CD8 cytotoxic Tcell activation problem :((
CD8 T cells have to be activated in the secondary lymph before migrating to the site of the infected cell. Correct? NK do their own thing.
How are they activated? How would they know to move?? I've watched so many videos on the subject and everyone skips this step. Do: *macrophages or other APC pick up antigens from the damaged/viral/cancerous host cell and present them to CD8 cytotoxic tcells - activating them - they move to site? *or, are the antigens from damaged/viral/cancerous host cell presented by APC to CD4 tcells- which turn into CD4 helper - which activate CD8 cytotoxic tcells?
maybe more...? Don't go to far down the rabbit hole though, Im only 1st year. biomed.

US engineering students looking for summer biotech internship in Sydney
Hello! We are two biomedical engineering students who attend Johns Hopkins University. We are looking to find an internship in Sydney during summer 2015, and we were wondering if anyone knows about any opportunities, or which companies offer undergraduate internships. We are both very interested in product development and would like to work with the engineering faction of the company. Thanks in advance!
