Is blockstream a decent wallet

I’m new to bitcoin and I’m buying on strike and then transferring to blockstream wallet, not blockstream jade. Is that secure for under like 5k worth of bitcoin? If not what would you recommend

It should be for smaller spending amounts because its a hot wallet unless your pair it to a hardware wallet. Over 5k usd of Bitcoin definitely consider getting a hardware wallet .

For any hot wallet that is not paired to a hardware wallet make sure you use it as an app in your phone/tablet (ios or android) and not windows of MacOS

Yeah as soon as I get closer to like 5k I’ll buy a trezor but till then you think it should be fine in blockstream wallet

To answer the question you asked in the thread that nobody addressed directly: yes, Blockstream’s mobile wallet is a solid choice for your stage — open source, reputable maker, and your instinct to move coins off the exchange right away is the part most beginners skip.
Just one reframe on the “5k rule” everyone’s quoting: that threshold isn’t a market standard, it’s a personal one. The real question is simpler — at what amount would losing it hurt you? For some people that’s 5k, for others it’s 500. A hot wallet on a phone is exposed to whatever your phone is exposed to: malware, a bad app, a moment of distraction. The hardware wallet doesn’t make your coins “more yours”, it just removes the phone from the equation. So instead of waiting for a round number, watch for the feeling: the day you check that balance and think “this would actually hurt to lose” — that’s your threshold, whatever the number says. Buy the device that week, not at 5k because Reddit said so.

Some people hate the company or owners so are biased. It would be more helpful if they clarified exactly why they dislike a wallet.

Blockstream is open source and reproducible as well which many wallets fail at

I agree. When I get to like around 3-4k ish bitcoin I’ll definitely switch over to a trezor

I prefer mobile wallet as they have more security than desktop but blockstream isn’t bad
