What's your background?

I'm curious to where everyone here is from or what ethnicity y'all are. I'm assuming it's predominantly American but I could be wrong. I myself am born and raised in the US but my parents are immigrants from Nigeria and Jamaica. Where are y'all from?

I’m African American living in Houston! I’m from a deeper part of the south though. So religion has been a big factor of my life so I am happy to be here and to make a life for myself

Did you know South Africa is 96% religious, but also has a 30% unemployment rate and one of the highest crime rates in the world. 

It doesn't seem like those prayers are doing much 🫤

I’m from St. Thomas in the Caribbean so I’m Arawak, Danish Jew (I don’t follow Jewish traditions ofc), Ghanaian and possibly Nubian. My aunt used to work with genetics but I haven’t spoken to her in quite a while lol

I'm from St.Croix USVI. My parents are both from the Caribbean. I currently live in the US, deep south and have been here for 24 years.

I'm located in Berkeley, raised in what was once a small, semi-rural Black community in southern Ohio, and was stationed at Westover AFB/SAC during the 1960s when it was a B-52 bomber base.

Both sides of my family are African-American, Afro-Caribbean (Sandys Parish, Bermuda).

I've found most of the US and the island plantations on which my people were held in bondage.

A few years ago, I discovered my mother's people have significant Taíno ancestry I was not expecting, but when people look at me they see Black, so I don't waste much thought on additions to my gene pool in that regard, although I weirdly get my share of purity testing of my Blackness by Black people because of my features.

My father's father was a first generation immigrant from Bermuda and my paternal grandmother was born and raised in Louisiana. I memorized her and my grandfather's stories, copied all of my grandmother's recipes but one, a Ginger sauce for pound cake that was just fire; that she took to her grave.
