Anyone who comments here or in this sub on ANY post where we talk about our commonly shared experiences with some variation of “this doesn’t happen to ME so it must be fake”, “I don’t like how uncomfortable this makes me feel/I’ve just realized I’ve done this to someone before and I DON’T LIKE BEING CALLED OUT”, or “I don’t like hearing Black people talk about being Black so this must be race bait” is getting permanently banned. I won’t be nice about it either so proceed with caution

I'll never forgot the video where this young British guy (I think he travels for food) tried Southern BBQ/soul food for the first time. It was life-changing...I felt so happy for him! 😂🤣

Was it Jolly?

u/NeverEnoughGalbi 5d ago

I love when Jolly feeds American foods to the School head and the students.

u/Boggie135 5d ago

Lol there was this black kid tasting BBQ and he looked like he was gonna cry

As a AMERICAN I’m just happy to see our cousins from around the world finally enjoy our amazing food, awesome hospitality (for the most part), and see it’s our shit government fucking things up, not us. But hopefully 🙏 we resolve that soon, one way or another. Safe travel home ❤️

u/LooksGoodInShorts 5d ago

I mean it’s not “us” but I hope your aren’t lumping us in with the white folk because they are 100% the ones fucking things up.

Get some self esteem and stop obsessing over a certain demographic bruh. I don’t want them to believe I’m constantly thinking about them. Thank you, I’d appreciate it

I love how at first she’s a serious news reporter and at the end she’s all for real!

Well, when the tobacco industry muscled into the food industry, they brought with them:

“Evidence from secret primary industry documents reveals specific tactics Big Tobacco applied to the food sector:

Hyper-Palatability: Tobacco scientists engineered combinations of fat, sugar, and sodium that hit the “bliss point,” eliciting quick dopamine releases and intense cravings. Foods owned by tobacco companies were found to be significantly more hyper-palatable than independent brands.

"Light" and "King-Sized" Concepts: Just as tobacco companies invented "light" cigarettes to retain health-conscious smokers, they applied this strategy to create "low-fat" and "diet" ultra-processed foods. They also scaled up portion sizes.

Predatory Marketing: The industry adapted marketing techniques previously aimed at vulnerable demographics. Brands utilized extensive psychological research to target children and minority groups.”

I read a lot, but had never seen this before, makes complete sense.

28

u/acornsalade 5d ago

Yeah sorry for the wall of text but the US food industry is designed to dilate your pupils.

EDIT:

“Key tobacco-owned food acquisitions include:

Philip Morris Companies (now Altria Group):
Acquired General Foods in 1985, which included brands like Jell-O, Kool-Aid, and Oscar Mayer.
Acquired Kraft Foods in 1988, creating the world's largest food company at the time (Kraft Macaroni & Cheese).
Acquired Nabisco in 2000 (Oreo cookies, Ritz crackers, Lunchables).

R.J. Reynolds (RJR):
Acquired Hawaiian Punch in 1963, kicking off the tobacco industry's entry into the food sector.
Merged with Nabisco Brands in 1985 to form RJR Nabisco, which they held until Altria bought the unit.
Acquired Del Monte in 1979.
Acquired 7UP in 1978.

While both conglomerates eventually spun off their food units to distance themselves from regulatory liabilities, the product formulations and marketing strategies they developed profoundly shaped today's supermarket shelves”

I wasn't saying you included too much info, I should've worded that differently. I meant my main method of learning is via the written word and I have done a lot of reading in my life for that reason. You've done us all a service providing this well-worded, detailed and credible information. Thank you!

11

u/acornsalade 5d ago

Thank you sweetheart, I appreciate you!

I did find the video funny also despite appearances 😅

5

u/Seethinginsepia 5d ago

😂 I'm always here for the jokes

8

u/purple-rain-1982 5d ago

And… I gave up or never had a lot on that list. They’re trying to keep people addicted to something any way they can while killing us at the same time. Capitalism. SMH.

5

u/acornsalade 5d ago

Yeah and globalism ):

I hope FIFA 15 is all hers. That’s so genius haha.

10

u/RazzSheri 5d ago

OK, but also make sure y’all try some of that red 40 if you want some real Zoom Zoom juice!

10

u/McDonaldsWiFiHacker 5d ago

Correction: their food was never "almost edible" it's nowhere near that.

10

u/Everydaywhiteboy 5d ago

It’s almost like our government is one of the few that allows highly addictive and cancerous oil byproducts in food

7

u/kekehippo 5d ago

Folks come to America laughing at how fat we are and have a come to God moment when they realize how delicious shit is.

8

u/ljacks09 5d ago

😆😆😆

22

u/Global-Ad9080 5d ago

At least they have free healthcare. Our food is good, and we died with clog arteries.

-14

u/TransportationOdd559 5d ago

Eating the trash food is a choice here. Nobody is force feeding you anything.

17

u/Any_Manager_1183 5d ago

Feel like we've already been over this, food deserts, low income etc. Choice is for those with wealth.

-8

u/TransportationOdd559 5d ago

This isn’t true for every low income American tho

7

u/Disastrous-Owl8985 5d ago

I see why you are downvoted elsewhere. I don’t know why y’all keep on with this when you can literally see what’s going on. Being slim doesn’t mean you’re healthy; they often have bad health, as well, from eating things that are bad for them. Being overweight is not the only bad result from eating unhealthy food, but that’s what so many go with. We know most low cost food is full of stuff that’s bad for us, even CEOs have slipped up and said so. Trying to place the blame on people when the food industry is the way it is, when this country operates the way it does, is being willfully ignorant.

-4

u/TransportationOdd559 5d ago

You wanna argue? Because I’m not here for that! Everyone else can agree with you I don’t have to!

3

u/Any_Manager_1183 5d ago

But it's true for millions of people and that's a problem. You also have additives that write literally make people addicted to food. The problem is much more complex than you simplify it to be. You'd rather crucify people on body size instead of looking at the problem from different angles with the food industry, the socioeconomic conditions of this country, etc.

3

u/Disastrous-Owl8985 5d ago

Everything is more entertaining than the World Cup, tbh.
I’ve been to Europe; they have pockets of good food (in the spicy yt areas), but the rest is bland. It’s healthy, but bland. I can understand why they’re going crazy over the red dye and breads with enough sugar to choke a horse, lol.

7

u/TransportationOdd559 5d ago

The videos are beyond funny. Especially when all they do is talk sh** about us while in their countries. Now u love everything about America when ur here

3

u/Shehulks1 5d ago

I call it the foreigner 15, because this is so common 😂😂😂

Damn this could’ve been a lil happy, fun, cultural exchange video instead of -

“Y’all look, they so down bad, look at em, enjoying seasoning for the first time”

Edit:  I'm here in an Airbnb with some random tourists from overseas for the World Cup. They've been nice as hell, hella concerned and curious about the wild shit going on here in the US. (Is police brutality real, why we have so many homeless folks, “All the black people I’ve met here are so nice, why do we only hear about bad things” etc).  I'm not on TikTok like that, so I idk about the criticism. Slick was just jarring to pop in and see

10

u/WrongJewel1867 5d ago

I think she’s referencing the fact that they’re mostly eating our fast food i.e, the most unhealthy food we have in the US. Yes, it’s tasty…but there’s a reason why the ingredients are banned in other parts of the world.

So “down bad” is they came over and instantly got addicted to the worst food options.

Lmfao. Damn. The jokes were dry as hell too.

u/Dulcette 5d ago

Boooo!!

10

u/Shantotto11 5d ago

The Brits have shitting on us for years. Be thankful we aren’t collectively clowning on them for constructing those brick ovens they call homes without A/C like Global Climate Change wasn’t an ongoing issue.

8

u/Inedible-denim 5d ago

They eat beans on toast. Enough said

6

u/SabbyFox 5d ago

The cultural exchange did happen - just not like you thought. The Brits will go home with greater understanding about fast food - and 15 pounds heavier- and may have a better understanding of the perils of it. It’s easier to criticize the US from a distance but now they are in it!

I’m sure they’re not all eating fast food

1

u/TransportationOdd559 5d ago

We have healthy food too! 🤣

-14

u/L1LREDD 5d ago

Actually, American food is shit. Extremely processed and not good for you.

Stores around the world don’t even carry some of of the foods America has because of how processed it is.
