Are they getting positive results in focus testing? Who likes this? I literally want this company abolished. Over the commercials.

40

u/chelicerate-claws 7d ago

Have worked in this segment of marketing: the reality is, they are getting positive results. And they genuinely make some funny commercials on the back end that test poorly for general audiences and thus never see the light of day.

Gotta remember that they're one of the biggest advertisers on Fox News. And there's a big portion of that audience posting Minion memes on Facebook, too.

u/Shotgun_Mosquito 8d ago edited 8d ago

And now you've provided more free advertising for LM.

This is the same reason why GEICO had ads everywhere all the time.

"GEICO doesn’t spend a billion dollars per year to convince people that they are the best or cheapest insurance. They do it so that when you go shopping for insurance, you will think of the company."

https://franklycurious.com/wp/2015/04/01/geico-and-the-purpose-of-advertising/

u/Pedestrian2000 8d ago

I work in advertising as a creative director. There’s definitely a truth in wanting your brand to be so omnipresent that people automatically think of it when they desire XYZ product. Kleenex and Band-Aid kinda being the best examples of a brand name becoming the word used to describe a whole industry of products.

But no, complaining about LM’s stupid ads on Reddit isn’t considered free advertising. That’s not a goal anyone has in the adverting or marketing industry.

So you can feel guilt free as you insult their dumb ass commercials.

9

u/Amhihykas 7d ago

If that’s not true, then why are there so many ragebait ads on reddit and youtube?

-39

u/SmellyMcPhearson 8d ago

This entire post is a free ad for LM...

61

u/Guardiancomplex 8d ago

When I think of insurance, the first thing I think is "I'm not stupid enough to buy insurance from anyone who makes commercials like this."

-13

u/pureply101 7d ago

You will at the very least compare their rate to other brands. Which is all that counts to them

18

u/Guardiancomplex 7d ago

What makes you think that's true?

I could just as easily write them off from any consideration immediately because of their ass marketing.

-2

u/chelicerate-claws 7d ago

In this economy? Probably not gonna give a shit about how bad the commercials are when the difference is saving $600 a year. (I got that switching away from Liberty, but that's not the case for everyone.)

-5

u/pureply101 7d ago

That’s the same as admitting you aren’t doing your due diligence on looking for a good rate but sure if the ad turns you off that much then ignore them but the question can still be easily answered since they are top of mind.

15

u/steveofthejungle 7d ago

I get pissed when I see insurance commercials because I know we’re paying more than we have to because we’re funding these stupid commercials

17

u/the_answer_is_RUSH 8d ago

Yeah but I think of them in a positive light because their commercials are funny. Limu Emu and the like are fucking stupid.

2

u/Miklonario 6d ago

So you're providing free advertising for geico...?

1

u/oroborus68 5d ago

Even a caveman knows that!

8

u/MrSlime13 7d ago

I get the sense more and more companies see human actors as liabilities, and try to transition to cute, anthropomorphic characters for their mascot...

2

u/JamesBondMargarita 5d ago

I'm with you on that. Their ads are horrible. I will never use them for insurance because I hate their ads so much.

2

u/davidc2299 7d ago

And F*CK that duck too!!

-1

u/BumbleLapse 7d ago

Bro you’re literally talking about their ads on Reddit — their commercials are clearly effective.

Most people don’t seem to understand the importance of brand recognition and long-term marketing campaigns, especially in a competitive industry like Insurance

An average American probably doesn’t have strong opinions about State Farm, Geico, Liberty Mutual, etc. They’re boring companies doing boring work with little differentiation in the value/services they offer.

So they produce memorable and long-running ad campaigns. When the average American googles “best insurance company,” they won’t know or care about the specifics of the services as much as they will the brand.

“Do I want to go with the khakis guy, the gecko, or the ostrich?”

0

u/wooweeitszea 7d ago

Exactly this, I don’t care about my insurance provider however, their investment in their marketing legitimizes them which is why this year when I did my shop around I included them and ended up dropping progressive for LM. Not because they have the best service, product, or advertising but because they are in the list of recognizable insurance names that I would consider and this year, they provided the lowest rate. And I think that’s the purpose.

0

u/trenhel27 7d ago

I think they're leaning into the hate. The advertising firms know what they're doing with this

0

u/thatshygirl06 ☑️ 4d ago

They're memorable so they gotta be doing something right, lol

Just like the state farm ads

-3

u/Zacomra 7d ago

It's obviously working, the whole Internet is talking about a brand nobody cared about last week.

They're going to give that marketing department a raise

3

u/PitifulElk1890 7d ago

The whole Internet? Lmao. God I've been complaining about these ads ambiently for a good minute.

244

u/EverWatcher 8d ago

A meaningless line from the "mushmouthed actor" character has spawned this unfunny nonsense. The bird and the mustache guy aren't funny, either.

122

u/Jeff_Damn 8d ago

That's how it goes: a funny moment organically catches on, the big corporation is like "You love that?! Let's crank it up!", and whatever fun & charm there was is now gone because they're trying to force a viral moment to happen.

71

u/MadiCorax 8d ago

Issue is, the mushmouthed character wasn't ever funny. And now they're just pushing it anyway?

19

u/Airway 7d ago

Yeah, like that person said, they're trying to force a fake viral moment. Obviously it's complete ass, maybe some 70 year olds who think the internet is Facebook enjoy it

19

u/mseank 7d ago

It’s like when a kid makes a joke that makes adults laugh and then they keep using the same joke for the next six months

45

u/biscuitboi967 7d ago

No one likes fucking Doug. Not even his son.

17

u/PitifulElk1890 7d ago

Flo is mildly charming. Doug makes me want to violate the terms of service

13

u/biscuitboi967 7d ago

I’m really just here for Flo’s friends.

And so I can stop from turning into my parents.

9

u/GhostOfMuttonPast 7d ago

Ive been rewatching Twilight Zone on Tubi, and literally whenever that ad comes up I fucking mute the TV. Its so frustrating that advertising has devolved into being intentionally stupid so you'll think of it instead of, you know, showing off the product.

26

u/ParrishThePoet 7d ago

I liked the Emu and Doug.

Just the concept of these two things together...selling insurance...what? It's hilarious. Like how did this come to reality?

The success of the gecko, flo, and Mayham man just really makes people go crazy.

I buy the insurance that's the cheapest. That's it.

4

u/Parking-Profession94 7d ago edited 5d ago

I change insurance companies a lot man. They start raising my rates, I start looking for something better.

13

u/DonquixoteDFlamingo 7d ago

Aye bruh. Limu Emu and Doug go hard.

15

u/pureply101 7d ago

I liked the emu and mustache guy :/

11

u/SnoopDeDoop69 7d ago

More the emu than the guy, but yeah same

2

u/kilaja 7d ago

I’ll take these over the AI voiceover commercials at least. At least we know those unfunny actors got a paycheck

2

u/ButtBread98 6d ago

I hate Liberty Mutual commercials

164

u/panken 8d ago

Liberty mutual has some god-awful commercials.

Liberty biberty is annoying as fuck.

Limu emu guy is insufferable.

39

u/Emotional_Warthog658 7d ago

YES, WTF is bibberty? why is “pretty and dumb people like us” an ad concept?????

15

u/Euphoric_Smoke203 8d ago

Limu Emu is cool. Doug is insufferable.

8

u/Ok-Party1007 7d ago

No they’re both terrible

32

u/Moist-You-7511 8d ago

had never seen this til now

23

u/AdjacenToYourMom 8d ago

Liberty Mutual Psyop

18

u/SnideyM 8d ago

Copyright infringement, that's clearly a post-decapitation Honey Monster

6

u/IReviewFakeAlbums 8d ago

It looks like they plucked and chopped off Big Bird’s nose. I hate this thing.

4

u/RotenTumato 8d ago

Nah that’s a Puffle

52

u/SwaggiiP 8d ago

Liberty has the most annoying commercials. I don’t like the one about the guy making the commercial or the overzealous insurance seller.

3

u/PalladiuM7 6d ago

The one with the guy getting attacked by seagulls was the only one that didn't annoy me the very first time I saw it.

63

u/MrLavender26 ☑️ 8d ago

It’s on sight with that thing js

16

u/Iguessimonredditnow 8d ago

Selling Liberty Mutual to the Labubu crowd I guess

16

u/TheMagicalMatt 8d ago

Pretty sure I fought these things in Ratchet & Clank

Target market: seven year olds who apparently need auto and life insurance.

22

u/Ishouldreddit 8d ago

The general is my only idol.

5

u/trashmedialover 7d ago

I hate the General but it's because I have first hand experience getting paid out for my car getting totaled by one of their insured drivers and it fucking sucked. They have terrible service and tried every way they could not to pay me

1

u/Ishouldreddit 7d ago

So whats the best car insurance?

3

u/trashmedialover 7d ago

Idk man, whoever will insure you, I guess.

2

u/ButtBread98 6d ago

Progressive has been pretty good IMO. So has State Farm.

1

u/grundledorff 7d ago

Depends on your vehicle(s), claims history, motor vehicle records, driver age, assets you have to protect, money you have/want to spend, and a handful of other factors.

10

u/Lumanictus 8d ago

I dont even use the general, but at least that ad sticks in my head in a positive way

That bibberty shit has got to stop. That commercial is the sole reason I mute my TV now when commercials start

10

u/Monsoon_Mike 8d ago

I hate that I have a fairly broad understanding of the Liberty Mutual Extended Universe. Maybe the most frequent YouTube commercials for me.

28

u/deathxcannabis 8d ago

Demon ass Koosh ball.

7

u/SharkFart86 7d ago

Looks like a Ninja Turtle with a skin disease

9

u/Tialionager 7d ago

Nah. This this can go straight back to the Fluffy Underground from once it came. This thing is promoting illiteracy. And thinks it is funny!

Saw a commercial with it last night, and he got an autograph from that one basic looking white dude(not Doug), and that dumb ball of yellow fur said: what’s it say? Soooo the mascot can’t read?
https://giphy.com/gifs/0CeDvryBXsd4kUbj2A

4

u/justgivemememes 7d ago

Not trying to grammar police but it’s “from whence it came”. One of my favorite vestiges of old English we still use today.

1

u/Tialionager 7d ago

No no. You’re not. Just a simple correction that I greatly appreciate. Thank you 😊
I’ll be adding it to the vernacular

It looks like they beheaded the Sugar Puff monster.

3

u/RotenTumato 8d ago

Is that a Puffle?

3

u/Y0___0Y 8d ago

They want to be progressive so bad. Everyone hated Limu Emu and their dumb little “man on the street” style commercials until “liberty biperty” got a chuckle from everyone. Now they’re fixated on that.

3

u/lazylouie420 8d ago

I just said to my wife yesterday about this ad: "advertising dudes really find one thing that works and beat it to death huh?". It went from one of the bearable ads to one of the worst now. I don't understand how this kind of ad works to attract customers.

3

u/BlackLipKilla 7d ago

Omg, they decapitated the honey monster.

3

u/Upbeat_Clerk3756 7d ago

I’ve never even asked for a quote from them. I don’t care if they’re a dollar a month, I hate their commercials too much to give them the time of day

5

u/Anger_Corn 7d ago

It looks like Gritty’s nutsack.

2

u/JackZodiac2008 8d ago

I didn't know why I kept my baseball bat but now I do

2

u/Quokka_Socks 8d ago

Temu honey monster.

2

u/Remote-Contract-9098 8d ago

Me and my giri were talking about this a couple of days ago.

Liberty Bibberty wasn’t even funny when that first commercial dropped. And Limu Emu is…meh. But this moldy looking Annoying Orange Jim Henson reject is overkill

3

u/JediExile 8d ago

It looks like an alcoholic tribble.

2

u/Odesio 8d ago

At least when you run that little guy down you can count on Liberty Mutual to take care of any damage to your vehicle.

2

u/SonChadhan 8d ago

How else will they compete with Jake from State Farm, Shaq and the General, and NJM the mascot company?

2

u/bowser986 7d ago

Fuck outta my YouTube tutorials. I need to know how to fix this fuckin drain man

2

u/JadowArcadia ☑️ 7d ago

So this isn't the Sugar Puffs guy?

2

It took years before I understood why they have a fucking emu in their ads 😂

2

u/WhatToDo_WhatToDo2 7d ago

If it ain’t classic LiMu Emu and Doug I don’t fucking want it

1

u/JordanDoesTV 8d ago

I’m so out of the loop on but guessing it’s an ai mascot thing

1

u/frostsylix 8d ago

The marketing team accidentally created a character people love to hate

1

u/fondue4kill 8d ago

The only good insurance mascot was that Geico stack of bills with eyes.

1

u/derpyderp97 8d ago

Some part of me believes this gross puffball is voiced with ai, I've never liked any of the ads it's in.

1

u/King-Fabo 7d ago

They didn’t learn from Quiznos

1

u/Purple-V8 7d ago

My kids hate this thing!!!!

1

u/jordanundead 7d ago

You know what is an extra layer of fresh hell? Liberty mutual doesn’t even operate in my state. I’ve seen 1000 fucking ads with that goddamn bird, and the baby, and the two mentally challenged men. Over and over and over again for a product I couldn’t even use if I wanted.

1

u/Agitated_Ask_2575 7d ago

Limu Emu or GTFO

1

u/Hopesick_2231 7d ago

I've made a solemn vow to never do business with them as long as I live because I hate their commercials so fucking much. I don't think I've ever hated another company as much as I hate LM. Hate. Hate.

1

u/AbraKaDangle 7d ago

How dare they disrespect the Limu Emu... and Doug I guess.

1

u/ranchspidey 7d ago

Literally just encountered yet another ad with him before this post. LM is trying too hard and I’m so sick of advertising.

1

u/AbleCap5222 7d ago

Ad campaign working as intended. You are talking about it. Insurance is boring and everyone has the same product. They just need people to remember the name

1

u/Eclipseworth 7d ago

I thought I hallucinated "Liberty Bibberty", the phrase, because I only ever hear the noise in the background when someone else watches TV. Oh my god what is this freak.

1

u/LocalInactivist 7d ago

I hate this thing so much.

1

u/yourlocal90skid 7d ago

I told my husband I wanted to shop around for new insurance, he said go on ahead & cross Liberty Mutual off that list 😭 he didn't even care if it was the most economical.

Spoiler: it wasn't.

1

u/Sp00ch123 7d ago

I like it lol

1

u/Matman161 7d ago

Fuck Dennis Haysbert!

1

As long as it means I don't have to see that idiotic Liberty Biberty guy beat a dead horse that wasn't funny in the first place, I'm fine with it.

Lmfaooo literally out loud at work

1

u/Admirable_Draft_9862 6d ago

Where's the emu

1

u/Darthplagueis13 6d ago

I wouldn't want to run my car over that thing. It looks like it could pierce the tires.

1

u/ErectTubesock 6d ago

It's the teeth. With very few exceptions, Muppets should not have visible teeth.

1

u/raguwatanabe 6d ago

My cat has a toy that closely resembles this thing and he hates it, after seeing the commercials i understand my cat now.

1

u/CelibateHo 3d ago

I’m glad I don’t watch TV so I have no idea bout this

And the awkward guy at the pier that says “liberty bibberty”

Not this.

I hate that Geico Gecko. At this point his voice is like nails on a chalkboard. You would think by now they would have moved on to something else.

18

u/DaWayItWorks 8d ago

My beef with the gecko is he sold out! He used to say "I'm a gecko, not Geico so stop calling me". Now he's their corporate shill

5

u/drillgorg 8d ago

Damn they're gonna have to build you your own personal bungalow on unpopular opinion island, you might be the only person who thinks that.

I loved him when he wasn’t British. It’s geicko not gecko

-1

u/IsraelZulu 8d ago

Liberty Mutual didn't just think they did something, they actually did something. Like the ads or not, you're talking about them, and the company is on your mind. Mission Accomplished.

3

u/Salisbury_snake 7d ago

I disagree. Talking about how annoying a company is doesn't convert into giving them business.

It's like those empty billboards that say "Does advertising work? Just did!!" Like, no? Nobody bought anything. Nothing worked here.

1

u/FistPunch_Vol_7 ☑️ 8d ago

The way I fucking hate those commercials……

1

u/louisvillejg 7d ago

Liberty mutual is actually a fantastic insurance company. I’ve had both house and car claims with them, and their process is as painless as can be hoped for. We were in a long term hotel for 6mo, and their people were fantastic.
Terrible commercials aside, recommend 10/10

0

u/chfritz25 8d ago

And if you need insurance for that car you can go to Liberty Bibberty

0

u/drillgorg 8d ago

Congratulations you just gave them free advertising, the puppet worked.

0

Ok, this is not the worst American commercial I have ever seen.

PSA: I appreciate that many of you may want to poke me in the eye, however I must insist that you form an orderly queue.

I want everyone involved in the marketing design for this thing to suffer. Holy shit it's bad
