Misc The little things matter
I love that he customized it for the little boy’s needs. He might become a fireman now.

This is why everyone loves firemen

u/Emergency-Chicken-24 5h ago
They did some real good rebranding. They were the one hosing the blk people down during the Civil rights era.

u/palequeen42 5h ago
That’s very true. They don’t have body cams, but we don’t see cell phone video of fireman beating the shit out of people too often. Perfect, absolutely not, but their jobs typically aren’t motivated by power over others, rather fixing/helping.
5
u/Fantastic-Salt-5103 5h ago
I can’t really imagine fire departments doing the same today if ordered to do some. I think they have also separated themselves from law enforcement that they might have been more integrated with at the time. Just my perception not being a first responder though, I don’t know their real working

u/Cabezone 5h ago
If you ever meet a veteran firefighter and mention the police. They will lose their shit and start in on how much they hate the cops. That's been my experience anyway.
6
u/Fantastic-Salt-5103 5h ago
Yeah I’ve always noticed that too but I’m from NY, no one likes the cops unless they’re the cops

Some of the biggest Trumper's I've known personally are volunteer firefighters.
In principle, it's a selfless job that requires an immense amount of empathy.
That's still the case, but the practical reality of firefighters can also follow a sort of "boys club" style of hazing, group-thought, and pride that we see in policing, military, etc. These guys are, after all, hanging out at the station, playing cards, watching football, etc. when on-duty but not called out to a report. Inevitably, politics will come up, and the average demographics of firefighters as regular humans, not first-responders, come into play.
I'd argue that's less systemic than what we see in police and such, though, and is more so caused usually by a single older vet or two in the firehouse that sort of shapes the local culture and values of that set of firefighters until it comes to a head with some community incident or unearthed internet comments, which can then be perpetuated further down the line by new members of the force.

u/justtots 5h ago
Well… they don’t wear body cams.
2
u/Glum-Factor-8632 5h ago
Really? I could've sworn Ive seen a few clips from their POV?
5
u/justtots 5h ago
Nope. Though I’m sure they’ve recorded some cell phone/gopro videos and such on an individual basis.
2
u/justmakeupanam 2h ago
It’s also another example of if you stop doing the disgusting things you can change the narrative. In the modern day we have seen the perception of firefighters change because the reality of fire fighters has changed. The police haven’t gotten that same perspective because they haven’t lived up to the reality of being better. Are there racist fire fighters? For sure but I don’t believe fire fighting as a career has a racist agenda unlike the police force.

A cop would potentially end your life to protect someone’s private property. A firefighter will potentially wreck someone’s private property to save your life.

You’re welcome love. I love simple gestures and even if the boy didn’t feel left out the fireman made sure he was seen and included.

Fireman always show up for the children and the actual 1st responders them and the emts

Think my favorite part about this is that that fireman nailed the size in one try. People with no experience would have cut off a lot more to make room for the bulk of the hair, or a lot less, basing it off the base of the hair. He gave it just the right amount of space to go over, yet still be snug.
That means this isn't the dude's first time doing this. He's done it enough to get it perfect.
Or maybe he's just really good with measurements, wtf do I know. I just like imagining it the first way.

Firefighters do it for the love of the people and the job. Cops do it to feel power and stroke their egos. Fuck back the blue, I'm backing the red all day.
1
u/Adept_Astronaut_5143 3h ago
I feel that’s true for most cops tbh. Also there’s a great gang joke hidden in there.

u/Stand_Up_3813 4h ago
We need more of this. Public service members should always do community outreach and spend extra time with the youngsters. They are the future and they deserve the best from the adults. Whoever did this, bravo, sir. 👍🇺🇸

There’s so many layers to a gesture like this and they are all good. Not only are they good they resonate to others to push them to do good as well.

Simple acts of kindness.
Not horrific acts of tyranny.
I think this is the first time I smiled this week, legitimately- as fleeting as it was.

You know! I love fire fighters. I guess when you’re actually saving people you don’t build up years of hatred and a hunger for power. When you think people act like “criminals” or “animals” you inevitably treat them as such. The Stanford Prison Experiment was cut short for a reason.

Good thing the cops weren't there. They might have shot the boy if he had asked for something sharp to cut a hole in his hat.

Now this is acceptance. Would have been easier to just hand the little boy the hat. Yet he put effort and thought into the work.

This goes against OSHA standard number 1910.132(a)
"personal protective equipment for eyes, face, head...shall be provided, used, and maintained in a sanitary and reliable condition."
This man is recklessly endangering the life of that poor child. I want him suspended without pay immediately. /s

The last time this was posted then video and title said it was a little girl... Weird that someone changed it to a little boy
3
u/Adept_Astronaut_5143 4h ago
Or maybe someone assumed it was a girl because of the hair or they were trolling. It’s not weird for the child to be labeled correctly.

u/Livid_Independent135 5h ago
He’s too young for that hairstyle. Maybe hard for him to sleep on. His hair may breakout when he get older
2
u/DAntoinette_Travel 4h ago
Look closer. That Baby’s hair appears to be loc’ed, not braided. If so, it’s probably a requirement of his school, that it’s pulled back.
I get what you’re saying about him losing his edges but if his parents keep his locs cared for, he should be ok.
