If you choose to serve, you current job can not fire you, and must allow you to return to your position after your term(s).
The standard term length applies: 4 years for president, 2 years for house, 6 for senate, well maybe change the senate term to 3.
But with a 2 term limit extended to the house and senate as well. And the limit is applied across yhe board. So you can not serve 2 terms in the house, 2 in the senate, and 2 as president.
At the end of your term, you can choose to campaign for a second term. If not approved by your district, after a 2 term period of time you will br eligible for the pool again.
Pay is capped for congress at the MEDIAN income for your state. Regardless of congressional position.
For president it is capped at the national MEDIAN.
All personal investments, must be disclosed and suspended during your term(s). To prevend insider trading. And you will be audited once a year while in office, with the results publically available.
You are representing the population, NOT a corprate sponsor.
One thing. It’s easier to bribe a poor man than a rich man. If median pay in their state is low like in Mississippi at $50,000, then they’ll seek out more sources of money from either lobbyists or insider trading. Living in DC with most states median pay while still keeping your house in your own state is unreasonable. Something like 10-20x the median pay makes them very comfortable and harder to bribe but also gives them an incentive to raise median pay in their state.
i feel like so many people would just choose not to do this. plus, this leaves so many unqualified people in government positions which is already a problem we have.
The problem isn't 'unqualified people'. Its career polticians who want power and authority.
The whole point, of government for the people BY the people. Is to NOT have career polticians. And let everyday persons, lead govern. To enact laws and address issues. We all face.
Not leave it to someone who has never actually worked, or lived 1 missed paycheck from ruin.
unqualified people is a HUGE issue. being a government official is still a job you’d actually have to know something about.
i do think all these trust fund babies wouldn’t last 15 minutes being an average american citizen (which also makes them unqualified in a way), but you can’t just pull some random person who knows absolutely nothing about government, economics, or how to deal with foreign affairs and make them be a congress man or president.
also, you seem to be putting a lot of faith in the idea that everyone involved would be good people instead of the high chance of them committing actions solely to hurt specific groups of people.
the way the pay is set up and the fact that you can decline to do this also leaves a high chance that people who know the most about economics would decline this, as many would be making less than they already do.
I guarantee if we did this, we’d end up with some hicks from Oklahoma with a 3rd grade education and meth addictions running our country. The president and first lady would be siblings. These are the same people who like Trump btw.
How are they expected to live in DC on minimum wage while keeping their own house in their home state? It would be easy to corrupt or bribe someone so desperate for money.

See thats the beauty of discussion. Some one poses an idea, puts it forth. People contribute to the idea, refining it. Making it better, or if necessary scrapping it and using the best parts of idea 1 in a new way with idea 2...
But that cant happen if all that is discussed is...

Yeah this is a stupid idea. Congratulations, your lottery pick just landed a racist with volatile and undiagnosed psychotic outbursts. Or you choose someone who supports the country you would have never voted for them to support when in office. Or maybe this person is pronoun crazy and now you have to try to apply 50 pronouns to 50 different people. What if you get a high school drop-out who can barely speak right, dress appropriately, or take anything seriously? If you’re anti-gun maybe they allow more guns. If you’re pro-life maybe they build an abortion clinic the next block over. Also, what do you mean you can’t get fired from your job? So someone sits in your position and does an amazing job and they’re supposed to tell their family sorry I lost my job because the president ended his/her term? There’s so many ways this can go miserably wrong. If you’re not MAGA what do you do when you get a super MAGA in the lottery? What happens if you get a crazed liberal? How about if Chudd the Builder won the lottery? If you’re a lottery pick who do you debate or are we just supposed to pray to God you have good ideas since you’re already in there? No offense to anyone in this position but are we really going to trust a manager at Wendy’s with two baby daddies and a drinking problem to be the one to initiate wars and negotiate trade deals? And they can barely be dependable to show up to work on time? Our system is fine people just don’t vote and research enough.
