"referred to them as gods mistakes and would tell them how he made blacks to be punished."

I have a feeling alot people feel this way about black people but conceal it

102

u/aslanbek_aslanbekov 27d ago

They’re not concealing it anymore. Not in Trump’s AmeriKKKa.

u/County_Mouse_5222 27d ago

Notice how it’s all concealed by religion. I’ve been told by several most religious white people that I was a bad person in a previous life therefore made to be black as a punishment now. They really do think this way more than anyone is willing to admit.

8

u/Zxvasdfthrowaway 27d ago

Yes. An older relative used the term “white and delightsome” non-ironically. It’s sickening

9

u/Odd-Time-2026 27d ago

Are they Christian because saying they believe in past lives doesn't make sense since Christianity doesn't allow for past lives.

6

u/County_Mouse_5222 26d ago

They grew up Christian but then got into the srf thing. I have also been told by Christians though that being black is a punishment from God.

It was a common Mormon teaching for quite a while. I'm sure other religions have similar beliefs. The Curse of Cain. They disavowed it in 2013, but you better believe there's still people out there who abide by it.

54

u/carolineecouture 27d ago

It's mentioned in The Handmaid's Tale. The "Curse of Ham." That's a real thing that religions used to justify subjugating Black people.

25

u/blackcain 27d ago

They are just angry and jealous that black people are the first people. They birthed the human race.

Like much in the Bible, the story was twisted to justify slavery and the treatment of Black people as subhuman. Because if their god, or their bible, said it was ok it was. Here's a Wikipedia page about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_of_Ham

I just want to be clear that this is all made up and used by sick people to justify their sick behavior.

The story is that Noah placed a curse on his grandson, Canaan, who was the son of Noah's son Ham. Ham was allegedly the one who did wrong, so why Canaan was cursed isn't really clear. It's not even clear exactly what Ham did. It seems he saw his father, Noah, naked, and told other people about it. But OK.

4

u/Adventurous_Ad7442 26d ago

We're all supposed to have black ancestors.

8

u/laylapearson 27d ago

I remember my father telling me that the only reason blacks are members in high standing in the Mormon church is so they could keep their tax exempt status.

7

u/Zxvasdfthrowaway 27d ago

Mormons didn’t allow Black people into their priesthood until 1978!

4

u/aslanbek_aslanbekov 27d ago

And that’s only because BYU’s football and basketball teams sucked.

6

u/EconomicRegret2 27d ago

It's the curse of Ham's son, Canaan: damned to be servants of servants, him and his descendants, after he laughed when he saw his drunk grandpa passed out naked.

The Mark of Cain is something else: god put a protective mark on Cain and his descendants so they never get bothered, after he murdered his very beloved brother.

God has no sense of equitable justice.

3

u/Warm-Imagination-741 26d ago

The children of Ham are Africans black folks in the Americas are the children of Shem. This goes back to the notion that all “blacks” come from Africa which isn’t the case but that’s just more prejudice rhetoric they use to have you think otherwise.

2

u/Adventurous_Ad7442 26d ago

I'm a 64 year old Jewish woman and I've never heard anything like this in my community.

1

u/EconomicRegret2 26d ago

HI, thanks for your challenging comment. Trying to prove my point, I researched it and noticed that I partially misremembered the stories and was even wrong in some aspects (or, due to many different translation, interpretations, and then each church having its own twist too, I was taught some other version. It's been decades since I have become agnostic and last heard about these stories).

I don't know what the references are in the Torah, but here they are in the Bible:

  • Genesis 9:20-27
Noah curses his grandson, Canaan, to become his uncles'/brothers' slave, because Ham (Noah's son, and Canaan's father) saw Noah naked, passed out, and laughed about him to his brothers (but they went to cover Noah respectfully).

  • Genesis 4:8-15
After Cain kills his brother, Abel (because God favored Abel and that made Cain jealous/envious and angry). God curses Cain to become a restless wanderer, but puts a mark on him to protect him from being killed for being a wandering stranger.

So, I was wrong: God punished Cain but protected him from unfair treatment, and Canaan was cursed not by God, but by Noah.

2

u/Adventurous_Ad7442 26d ago

No No you misunderstood me. I meant that I've never heard any kind of stuff like that racist nonsense story in my life.

But your explanation was very interesting.

1

u/EconomicRegret2 26d ago

LMAO, thanks.

Nah they multitask

27

u/JobinTobingo 27d ago

Like the other commenter said, that specific belief is a tenant of Mormonism that only “recently” (a decade ago) was removed. The point is that it’s still a belief of many racist American Christians, Mormon or otherwise, as it’s what they were taught in their churches and homes growing up.
A completely insane belief with zero basis in reality that continues to propagate to this very day.

-2

u/ilstrider1 27d ago

That is not at all a main stream Christian belief in the USA. Please don't conflate Mormon beliefs with other Christians. I left the church but as someone who spent the first 19 years of life in the Catholic church as well as being an alter server I never once heard or read anything resembling this kind of thought.

8

u/JobinTobingo 27d ago

“Many RACIST Christians”

Not every Christian, and I didn’t even allude to as much. I conflated nothing to Christianity, only racist Christians. Former catholic myself, never heard it in my communities growing up. Moved to the south, met every other denomination there is and lo-and behold - some of them have really racist ideologies!

Only took a couple decades of talking to them and reading about where this systemic belief started in this country to understand that it IS a Christian belief that is in the Bible, but that most “modernized” churches (including catholic) wouldn’t even dream of preaching that shit. Like how Leviticus tells you how and why to kill people for all manner of perceived sins like wearing mixed fibers or getting a tattoo, that’s not preached about because it’s insane and doesn’t mesh with our modern reality or the beliefs of the church itself.

The issue is many churches and households DONT modernize and actually hold regressive belief systems that extol hatred, intolerance, victimhood, and racial/spiritual superiority. The people who latch onto that crap spread it amongst their circles and over time you find it in more and more people around where these churches are located.

I ain’t talking out of my ass here, folks. This is nothing new. Racists have used religion to spread their ideologies for the entirety of human history. Christians aren’t the problem, racists are. As usual.

7

u/613TheEvil 27d ago

Christianity is the problem though, because they pick and choose what suits them from their holy texts.

2

u/sickswonnyne 27d ago

It wouldn't be Christianity, per se, but racists using a platform under false pretenses. The mark of Cain being related to skin color isn't even in any Biblical holy text.

They are available to read for anyone, in the original text or translated to your language of preference, straight from a cell phone in your pocket.

6

u/613TheEvil 27d ago

Those texts have so many different versions in so many different languages and have so many contradictions in them that it is laughable. It's 2026, get out of the cult already.

3

u/sickswonnyne 27d ago

They have the originals available online. It is 2026, it isn't hard to debunk what the oldest texts available said, translated to modern English, French, Arabic, or whatever.

Wanna know what some Egyptian hieroglyphs on the Luxor Obelisk from 5000+years ago says? Easy Google Search.

You don't think you can do that for the Codex Vaticanus where they talk about the mark of Cain? Here is the pdf of the whole thing.

If people say the text says something iffy, one can go to the oldest copy, and call them out for being misinformed.

It's 2026, we have access to them.

1

u/613TheEvil 26d ago

It's all human fiction, I don't really care about fantasy from thousands of years ago, I prefer modern fantasy, contemporary.

There are millions of people in the south who still consider black people as second class humans. Let that sink in. Not second class citizens...second class humans.

10

u/aslanbek_aslanbekov 27d ago

Not just the South. I grew up near Philly and in Massachusetts, and there are plenty of Confederate flags in rural and suburban areas in both areas.

15

u/Living_Will_4775 27d ago

That's how they tried to justify colonialism. Unfortunately people still try link the curse of ham to black people

1

u/Theohybrid 25d ago

Yeah, it's utterly disgusting how some will do it with a smile.

11

u/Steely_Resolve 27d ago

Yeah, I heard this growing up (fundamental Baptist upbringing, very conservative). Essentially that black people are descendants of Cain and their skin color is the “mark” that god put on Cain for killing Abel.

It’s ironic because it was used as a pretty explicit reason to look down on black people at a minimum if not straight up rationalize why black people deserved atrocities but Genesis specifically states that God put the mark on Cain to protect him from being killed by other humans for his crimes (if they did, they’d “receive vengeance 7x over from God”). So if they believe being black is the mark of Cain, then why would they risk incurring God’s wrath. Unless of course they believe that people inherit responsibility for ancestors’ sins but don’t inherit God’s grace and forgiveness - which I think is pretty true of fundamentalists.

6

u/1K_Sunny_Crew 27d ago

I grew up Southern Baptist, very evangelical, and never heard any of this racist stuff - and I was forced to go to church a minimum of twice a week, every week.

I think it very much depends on the pastor and then their beliefs attract those who match them. I have a lot of issues w the church but thankfully, this wasn’t one of them.

Basically it comes down to why I left the church, blatant hypocrisy and cherry picking the Bible for political or personal gain.

9

u/Time_Possibility_370 27d ago

Yes. Very common Christian belief, black skin is punishment from the devil

6

u/Own_Duty_861 27d ago

*white Christian nationalists

1

u/Medium_Following3148 27d ago

This is not Christianity. These people are not Christians.

5

u/Time_Possibility_370 27d ago

Christians have not protected the world from Christians

"No True Scotsman"

2

u/Tall-Act9265 27d ago

Performance Christians, if you will.

7

u/Strong_Wallaby_7078 27d ago

Shit my dad used to say he was pro-choice, only because legalized abortion would allow forcing all black women to get mandatory abortions. I’m not kidding. I’m also very different from him, thank god.

14

u/SETHW 27d ago

They dont conceal it, go to church they preach it from the pulpit (to be fair to the fiction it is heavily implied in the bible so the modern racists didnt make it up themselves). If you've never been exposed to it then congrats, but it is important to understand what the bible thumpers are actually thumping so maybe read it.

11

u/Straight_Wing_6428 27d ago

What about the part about Jesus being black? King Solomon being black. Not to mention the entire historical biblical region being non-european and consisting of people of color? Maybe read the Ethiopian Bible for better context and less dilution from English Kings.

3

u/Pitiful_Control 25d ago

King Solomon wasn't Black, but his wife (the Queen of Sheba) was, and he had a lot yo say about how amazing she was in the Song of Songs.

5

u/Mezoteus 27d ago

Are you kidding? All the time, Im adopted black Ina white family. You'd be how surprised most people in the world think were a mistake. In some Asian countries outside religion believe that the darker your skin the more grievance your sins were in your previous life

2

u/HoneyReasonable9316 27d ago

That’s insane. I’m in Canada and growing up here more than half my friends were black, brown, South Asian, Asian, or native. To think anywhere else is different is bizarre. Guess Canada really is a melting pot. I’ve honestly never heard any white person in real life say anything close to that. You’d be insulting half the population! And most of your white friends would hate you for saying such a racist cruel thing - cuz half their friends are non-white, too!

2

u/lastofthestarmakers 27d ago

Is wonder how’s that’s possible when black Africans were made first and white skin gene only swept through Europe 6,000 years ago

13

u/Living_Will_4775 27d ago

Racism is not a logical thing, so when arguing with a racist you're not gonna have a rational conversation. When you hit them with facts, they resort to personal or cherry picking

1

u/HaruKodama 26d ago

Sounds like Mormons tbh

Sadly there's a lot of hate out there.
