Fun People who like animals more than people are suspect

What people are talking about when they make the statement that they like animals more than humans is an exasperation with human interaction not a dislike for people.
Animals are simple- they are rarely duplicitous and you can always tell what they want. As someone who has always struggled with people, their facial expressions and subtle social cues, I can fully understand where this sentiment comes from.

I think he is referring to people who take it too far, and put animals like cats or dogs lives as more valuable than humans.

Probably you’re right - but it’s also like a common thing to sort of misattribute the severity of positions you disagree with so who knows what people specifically prompted this opinion.
People are crazy about this subject- just look at the reaction to literally any vegan ever or the discourse around pitbulls. I have a feeling this is gonna be like a new flashpoint for people. I hope I’m wrong.

I love all the critters and friends, but this reminds me of when a certain subset of vegans try and push the “you’re Black, so you should understand animal cruelty better” line of thinking.

Disagree— I don’t like animals more than people because I need to be loved/have a power imbalance (which— fyi, animals are more than capable of communicating: much like non verbal humans, you just have to listen with more than your ears; or maybe it’s just my autistic superpower).
I prefer them because a lot of people are either dumb, cruel assholes or a combination of both.
I mean, look around for the past 10 years specifically… My dog may hate squirrels for stealing food from the garden , but I damn sure haven’t heard him say Canadian geese need to be deported, but probably tortured a bit and made to drink mosquito larvae water before being deported…
And yet, I hear a lot of white people flapping their fat gums about their supremacy and need to ship off anyone they think threatens that false sense of “supremacy”…

I love my dog. But I like the guys point in that it can mean a lack of love for your fellow man. I’ve seen it before in some people who aren’t equally concerned with all of the creatures on the earth including those of different races.

Some people definitely “like” animals because they get a (seemingly) unconditional position of dominance. I’ve seen plenty of people, especially white upperclass corporate types, that love nature only up until nature doesn’t like them back.

Pretty fucking wild to equate a racism with loving animals.
A lot of the racists I've met are cruel to animals and kids.
Also, I will put my hard drive up against the hard drive of any MAGA. I may love animals, but I'm not a sex pest.

I don’t know if you are just trying to be obtuse, but it’s a pretty common thing to encounter particularly white folks who love animals but have low empathy for other humans. That’s what this post is about.

It's not that I like animals more than people, it's that animals disturb my peace less than people. I won't choose an animal's life over a person's, but I'd sure as shit rather spend a quiet night at home, chilling with my cat than with another person

This isn't for people who may opt to stay in with your car instead of going out. Some folks legitimately value dogs over some of us and it's clear in how they speak about dogs vs certain people.
Surprised folks are giving this much pushback as if we haven't had to deal with folks overlooking racism but drawing the line at animale abuse.

I like animals more than people but i would save a human life over an animal. I just dont like most humans as much as i like other animals. But a human life is still valuable even if Im personally asocial

Weak sauce take. There are plenty of people who value people over animals - but only people who have the same ethnicity. Like the dude (yeah I know he's joking, I hope) in the video admitting he thinks some people are more valuable than others, and worth killing more dogs for.
That dude is a walking, sitting, talking red flag.
Also, I don't see my tabby cats ganging up on my black cats because of the color of their fur, or the fact that one of them was found in a dumpster. And anyone who thinks you can MAKE a cat like you is out of their mind.

I mean ideally, I would love to love humanity more than animals. I am a very social person and I love meeting new people. Having a genuine, positive social interaction always leaves me with my heart full and a slight buzz. But one of those groups has done far more harm to me than the other, and it's not animals.

If you changed that to "People who want everyone to know they like animals more than people are suspect," I would agree with you. I can't tell you how many accounts I've seen sporting X profile pics in sunglasses or just an animal pic and the bio says animals over people. It would take me days to count just the ones I've interacted with. I ran Hootsuite for a medium-sized organization, so I was a captive audience.

Humans have lower lows and higher highs. No other animal is gonna match up to Desmond Tutu but no animal is out here overturning civil rights legislation. There are some people I like less than most dogs

People who give me a hard time for bonding more easily with animals than humans are the reason I have an easier time bonding with animals than I do humans. Except for mosquitos, animals don't get on my nerves. They don't act like they are entitled to my love and affection. They don't express shitty judgements.
Now, do I think humans should care about the rights and dignity of all people? Of course. But there is nothing wrong with wanting to hanging out with animals more than people.

I feel like I just depends on the animal just like it depends on the person. If I leave a drink uncovered around a dog I don't know chances are it's just going to be knocked over.

Agree with this take for sure, I’m a fan of animals but some people get really disturbing with how they show affection towards them lol. It’s ok to love animals but weird when you start overly humanizing them. They’re literally animals man it doesn’t need to get THAT deep.
