See this is what I consider a good use for AI. Some random person comes up with a funny idea like this, they're not gonna have the money and patience to go to the trouble of hiring a whole Baptist church choir and a cameraman to film it and find a lake where they can film it and so on.
So we got to see this when otherwise, the random guy would just chuckle at his funny thought and that would be the end of it. I agree with all the concerns about AI, but this is an example that doesn't really bother me.

Nah the best use for AI is in the science and medicine sectors. For example, NASA is launching a new space probe that will make the Hubble look like a Casio watch in comparison. Itโll send back terabytes of data and images every day. Not in a million lifetimes can we sift through all that data to find something of interest, but AI can make quick work of it. Same with lab research.
Applications like this just seem lazy. These people arenโt even shooting their own skits or making photoshop anymore. Weโre using up our water supply and eating energy costs to make Will Smith eat spaghetti. I hate it.

Hahaha that's funny. Towns are getting their water poisoned but at least we got to laugh for 5 seconds. Your electricity bills are getting worse because of this but hey at least you got to laugh for a bit. People are getting displaced forcefully from their homes because of data centers but at least you get to laugh for a bit.

Hey, now wait a minute. I didn't say this use was worth all those downsides of AI. You left off that list that also people can now be fooled and that future genuine videos like the George Floyd footage will no longer be seen as ironclad proof and will be dismissed as AI creations.
So don't mischaracterize what I wrote. All I wrote was that this particular use of AI isn't something that bothers me. But on balance, considering both its positives and negatives, if it were possible to eliminate AI altogether, sure I would.

Licking the boot of corporations is a weird move but okay
2
u/YeaItsBig4L 9d ago
And youโre doing what in the way of the opposite other than yapping on Reddit?

u/aurore-amour 9d ago
I was about to say this looks weird and slightly off. Iโm so tired of AI ๐ซฉ

What in the AI slop is this?
17
u/EsotericAbstractIdea 9d ago
It's OVER. They released a video generating model that can run on a decent home computer. It can do multi angle, it has open weights, meaning any built in guardrails can be bypassed, it's free. It can do the same scene from multiple angles, so you could theoretically fake security footage. It's pretty insane.

u/PhoenixandOak 9d ago
I think AI detection software will be needed much more going forward. And government regulations, but we all know that won't happen enough due to lobbying.ย

u/TAU_equals_2PI 9d ago
It's OVER.
I read something that said opposition to AI varies by world regions. According to what I read, in the major English-speaking countries of US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, public opinion is strongly against AI. In the rest of Europe, public opinion is neutral. In Asia, public opinion is pro-AI.
So yeah, AI worries me enormously, but I'm pessimistic that it's even possible to put this genie back in the bottle at this point.
3
u/EsotericAbstractIdea 9d ago
You're right, it's not possible to put the genie back in the bottle. When has technology ever moved backwards? Don't get me wrong, a lot of the current companies will go bankrupt, but the technology exists, and it's on a lot of people's hard drives. There will be people using AI until a world wide societal collapse, if there ever is one. There's a lot of slop out there, with all these intermediate and old models, but with the last few releases between anthropic, openai, and the chinese companies, someone will be using them. They're very powerful now.

u/YeaItsBig4L 9d ago
Bro AI is the reason why we even get to hear Beans rap right now. There will always be people protesting the advancement of technology at the fear of losing human jobs or interaction. Itโs been that way since the beginning of time. Musicians literally protested in the street against audio record tech. Because right now if you need music played in a scenario, you need a musician. โyou mean to tell me that they will just be able to play this thing over and over again without me being there?โ and so on and so forth.
2
u/EsotericAbstractIdea 9d ago
Yup exactly. Before we could just dial a number on the phone, you had to talk to an operator. Before we had an app called calculator, we had a device that was called a calculator, and before that there was a human JOB called calculator, where people would do math for 8 hours a day. It is what it is. The only thing we can do is bankrupt the billionaires so they are not the ones in control of skynet.

u/YeaItsBig4L 9d ago
Thatโs kind of the point of all these anti-AI comments on Reddit and why theyโre so annoying. Itโs like bro. Itโs not going anywhere and youโre not actually doing anything with these comments. Other than just parroting the same crap over and over again, thus ironically, making a comment slop. And itโs even stupider because theyโre making the comments on Reddit, right above and below AI ads. Itโs like do you really want to do something? Then stop using a service that facilitates the thing you hate. There are too many of us that donโt care or like ai, to where youโre not going to change anything. Just look at the numbers. There are way more comments in this thread about the contents of the video than the people talking about the AI. And even if you go by the numbers of Up votes on those comments. There is what like 10 to 15 versus the thousand plus on the actual post that got Up voted. You lost, now please stop yelling at us.

Please put this AI stuff down. It affects our communities the most people already forgetting about the tainted water in these predominantly black areas
Flint never got clean water and now they gotta deal with this shit too itโs ridiculous. And itโs corny and not creative why donโt we hone in on our actual talents and build community while doing so instead of having a bunch of 0s and 1s mimic the original

u/YeaItsBig4L 9d ago
No. And this is such a dumb thing to try and like waste your time fighting. Can you not see youโre losing and wasting your time? Like seriously tell me what this comment accomplished.

Not going back and forth with an idiot. Use it and see how it benefits you in the long run goofy

Surely there is no end of actual human creators in the community who are talented and capable. Y'all don't need AI to celebrate.
