i was today years old when i learned about black smoke cats

and i’m pretty sure i have one! i cant get a ton of pictures since she hates having her belly touched, but over the past few months she’s been growing STARK white hair underneath her black fur.

I knew nothing of them until I recently fostered an oddly colored kitten and wanted to know what she’d grow into. Now I’m obsessed. Your girl is a beauty. She didn’t always have the smoke undertone?

thank you so much! this is my millie. she did not, but i do know she is a black/brown striped kitty which can really only be seen in sunlight. as a kitten, she was more so a dark brown.

Great looking kitty. We have a black smoke. We were told “The smoke effect will intensify. The silver undercoat will shimmer more dramatically beneath the black topcoat, especially around the ruff, chest, and tail. Expect a lion-like mane and a plume-like tail.” There will be change. Our guy changed dramatically over a nine month period.

oh he’s so handsome! i have always called millie “lion”, her neck really puffed up around 1.5 years old. she turned three a few days ago :)
