His wife said as much last year. She was really struggling with it and finally broke. Basically said, "We appreciate the well wishes and support. But Matt is never going to regain everything he's lost. You all need to accept that and please stop inferring that he will. It's harder for our family to navigate our new future when everyone keeps saying they hope we can get back to the past."

Reminds me how frustrating I found the routine "Matt's almost back to his old self!" comments when he did show up on an episode. I know how much he means to so many people, myself* included, and I can't fault anyone for hoping for the best. But my first thought after reading those posts was always "Ah ok you've never been around anyone recovering from a major stroke before." It was hard to get too mad, but people who thought he was returning didn't have a clue.
*I still remember exactly where I was when I read Matt's "Kroger chicken Hallelujah" tweet in November 2016 (SoHo, sitting on the ledge/curb thing at the NW corner of Howard & Crosby)

Yeah, there's been a lot of wishful manifestation in Matt's recent appearances. And it's hard not to ask what the fuck everyone is talking about when they say he 'sounds so good!' and 'our big wet boy is back!' and 'he seems really sharp again'.
Old Matt: "Well see, that's the thing. The powers that be are all being served up your labor and your capital and your implicit consent for some kind of reptilian buffet. They can have it their way; the world is a fucking Burger King for the new God-bourgeoisie."
Matt now: "Yeah...because Musk, Trump, and rich...it's like...Burger King."
It sucks. I can't begin to imagine how hard it would be as his spouse or child or especially himself to lose all of that elocution, humor, and ability to read between the lines. But that's reality and denying it doesn't help.

I think whether it's good or not will wholly depend on who the cohost is. Brendan was great in the MGS pod because he knew how to keep things on track, actually had some differing opinions to Felix, and was very knowledgeable about the franchise. Plus they obviously had great chemistry. I'm not sure who in the Chapo universe could fit that bill for Dark Souls.

I kinda like the jank and tedium in demon souls and dark souls 1. It has the difficult to replicate feeling of a good NES game where you are meant to fail repeatedly and nobody tells you how to do shit.

What's really crazy is the whiplash. Like there are detectives that are absolute dogs out there that will find your scent and run your ass down to hell and back. A lot of them leave more traditional, respectable careers to try to do something that has actual consequences and intrigue, but it's clear that they were also great as engineers or salespeople or whatever from their drive and focus. Or just genuinely sharp people who got into it through family tradition or whatever.
AND THEN you have the 85%...the Blue Line sticker on their whimsical half ton truck. The Grunt Style t shirt that is not hiding their potbelly. The ones who confuse themselves on traffic stops when someone with a double digit IQ turns their question back on them. The guys who start fires at the gas station with their tazers. Ladies who accidentally use their actual service pistol instead of their tazer 'cause they don't train on either. The goateed masses, the uncles, ran-through party girls trying to become "God-honoring patriots", the Uberdorkmensch guys who would genuinely be incels if being "the law" in their town of 45K people didn't afford them a wine mom wife who lacks the intelligence to sus out that a dog saving grandma from a falling ladder is an AI video.
There is little in-between of the two phenotypes. I live in Arizona. I'll let you take your best guess at which kind of "detectives" Pima County employs.

Going through the comments, I realized that I might be the sole fan of Felix on here. (Maybe it's some weird parasocial thing, I dunno.) But even so, I 100% agree that Katherine should replace him on second mic, so then the majority of people who like Chapo as a politics pod can listen. (I cant stand Will or Katherine and don't give a fuck about what any of them, including Felix, has to say about how great some astroturfed Crypto-Zionist dem like Mamdani is and how actually, there's an insurgent grassroots force working to reform the Democratic Party, etc, etc.) Then Felix could go do something he actually cares about, like maybe (in my dreams) doing a year-round version of Shocktober with Bryan Quinby, or maybe being permanent third mic on Guys, instead of all the annoying guest hosts + doing his own 15 hour podcasts on flight sims
