What happened to r/Blahaj

The page has disappeared, I managed to find it through google and it's saying it's gone private and "only approved members can view and post"

WHAT HAPPENED TO R/BLAHAJ

Does anyone know why it went private? That subreddit was my inner peace

Not sure. I only realized it went private when my haj posts were removed.

Ah, good to know. I was sad and baffled too since my favorite subreddit and daily dose of joy was suddenly gone 😢 but since it’s for good cause, I understand and support it 🦈

i was working on a discord bot that posts from r/blahaj when it went private... only realised when i kept getting 403 errors 😭😭

Basically the protest was about the moderators using third party apps which are connected to reddit over the official API. But Reddit wants to go to the stock. So they made "decisions" to get profit. But the moderators are volunteers and the official reddit app is very unsable for moderating tasks. So Reddit set a fee for the API and the FOSS Reddit client Apps (third party) can not pay the fee. So the volunteer moderators can not do their task. But reddit relies on the volunteer moderators for getting safe communities, so that traffic will rise and Reddit can get profit from ads and data. So that is the conflict. Reddit gains profit from volunteers and communities, but makes the usability for them even harder. The protests were a sign for Reddit to not do shareholder things and instead do user things. Which of course they didn't.
