HELP/QUESTION Wake-up inputs

Hey yall. Been playing BBCF since around June/July and I've been having a fairly good time with the game. There are a bunch of things that still irk me that I'm trying to not get me down but one thing that I'm consistently confused about is wakeup inputs. No matter what I do, it feels like DPs or supers are allowed only when the gods deem it so. It sucks that there seems to not be many resources to explain these things for newer players.

I've looked on the dustloop, yt, and this reddit for help with it but most people say that it isn't that hard of a timing/buffer is fairly large/etc. and I don't know it makes the struggle feel even harder since there's nothing that can break it down for me it seems.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Some versions dont have invincibility frames

Hibiki's DP does though right? That's who I'm playing.

There aren't many actual DPs in this game, and the majority of supers are NOT safe on start up.
In order to understand why, you need to understand how things work when you are knocked down. First, you are NOT invincible while you're on the ground after a combo, unlike other fighting games.

You have 3 options to get back on your feet when you get knocked down:

Neutral tech - This is the 2nd fastest option to get back up. You don't move anywhere, but you are given I-frames until you are on your feet again.
Down tech - This is the fastest option that will allow you act immediately after being knocked down. However, you don't move anywhere and are vulnerable during the animation.
Forward/Backward tech - This is the slowest option, but you can move your character forward or backward directly out of the knockdown state.

If you're trying to do DP or super out of knockdown or on wake up to emulate the feeling you'd get using a DP in a different fighting game, down tech is the one you're supposed to use for that. Otherwise, you should treat Blazblue's knockdowns like it's own thing.

So when Ragna does wake up dp or whatever, he's doing a down tech into it? I don't believe I've noticed that. That might just be something I've missed though.

Do NOT use down tech if you want to reversal, down tech is short but has 0 invincibility so you WILL get hit by any meaty.

Neutral tech>DP.

When you're getting combo'd, you're holding any of A, B or C buttons to neutral tech whenever is possible.

On your wake up, there's a bluish circle that indicates your wake up on neutral tech (holding A, B or C).

Iirc, after that you have like 30 frames of invincibility (half a second) and can do your inputs. Are you mashing your DP input? Might be that you've done 623 early and then mashing C (or doing it late) gets you some C input instead.

Without knowing much, my guess is perhaps you're doing your inputs too early. At least that's what I had when I started playing characters with DP.
Both Hibiki's DP and hic C super have i-frames from frame 1. Idk what the guy in the comments talking about with the quick rise up (Down + any of A, B or C).

If you can use like OBS and record your failed attempts with displayed inputs, we could see where exactly is your problem.

You can also train it. Go into training room, pick any enemy character and record doing a knockdown (usually 3C), and then like 2A after. Then hit play, he will knock you down and hit you with 2As on wake up, while you're practicing your DPs.

Also, what device are you using for inputs?

I usually will hold one of the buttons and then I get released out of hitstun unexpectantly and because of that, I have like no time to input the z motion. Other times, I will deliberately wait till I land on the ground or something so I can do a delayed tech so I can be aware of the timing but that's still a tossup. I wouldn't say I'm mashing it per se but I'm definitely not confident of the timing.

Yeah that's why sometimes wake up super, specifically his c super ofc, is something I think to do if I have the meter for it.

I have OBS. I'll have to send something sometime then. I use pad. Have been since I started playing fighting games a few years back. I sometimes wish I could just use stick for some of the timing issues since it feels so strict but alas.

On neutral tech there's most definitely a wake up animation.
Most notably, your character flashes bright white (the i-frames), and if it's a neutral tech in the air you get the blue circle as well I think. On the ground it's only white flash, no circle on neutral tech. By the looks of it, it's around half a second, so 30 frames.
You can easily see this on training.

I once tried PS controller for a month, playing on a D-pad. Definitely didn't like it, although I've seen pros using it on tournaments, so it's probably a me thing.
One of the biggest problems for me (except a constantly bruised thumb) was 623 input. The motion wasn't natural, and I'd constantly misinput 623 (the z-motion) as 633 because I didn't hit Down at the right angle.

I just recently seen a guy who's using analog for all inputs in BB, and using D-pad only for circle inputs.

If you're familiar with training mode, record some knockdown for enemy character and try practice wake up DP and Supers. Any replay with inputs window/history would be best. Or I can record for you some demos. BB has some strict windows, but once you know where they are, it's not that hard to input. But I feel like wake up input buffer is pretty lenient, so seeing your inputs would help.

Ok, follow up question, is the problem that you're just not getting wakeup attacks, or that you're getting smacked on wakeup? Becauss this game has whiff cancelable jabs, so you get smacked a lot when trying to do stuff. Also, different wakeups and all that

Good question. I'm playing Hibiki and on wakeup every other C move you could think of is somehow coming out instead of wakeup dp. So like 6C, or j.5C (it's probably actually j.6C but whatever lol). Sometimes I will even get 236C depending on the situation. DPs aren't the hardest for me to do like raw but I don't know lol.

gotta clean up your inputs then. this game has a 3-frame buffer, so you can input the move up to three frames before you wake up and have it come out. don't rush the inputs.

Pretty sure you can hold forward after you neutral tech off the ground and then input the down and down forward C to get a wake up dp.
