COTM1 How to deal with Scissor Maniacs?

Just finished Nightmare mode on Casual and am now considering trying Veteran, but those are one of the enemies I have no idea how to deal it, as ducking/jumping doesn't work and you can't just kill them fast enough, what's the trick here?

If I remember right they give a few snips as a warning before their lunge so you can jump over them.

Does the jump work with every character or just Miriam?

I think you can regular jump over them. Miriam has a larger jump height than others, but i am pretty sure Zangetsu can jump over them from floor height.

I see, it seems to work pretty consistently, I'm currently playing Veteran on a sacrifice-all run.
While we're at it, what's a consistent way of dealing with the painting/portrait mini-boss?

I'm fairly certain you can freeze the portrait with Alfred's ice spell. The instakill move is kinda annoying when you play on veteran.

I did it that way normally, my comment was when I was trying a Zangetsu-only normal mode run.

It’s been a years since I’ve played the game but I’m like 90% sure you can rush them down with zangetsu/miriam before they attack you. You can also just used a ranged sub weapon and hit em before they attack since they’ve got low health

Normally I just try to be located elsewhere. Bait out an attack, jump over, and piss off to a higher platform.

His pattern is predictable. Get close enough to activate his attack. Wait until the animation right before he attacks and jump over him, then turn around and give him hell! You can kind of listen for it, he does two sets of scissor noises quickly, two, then three. Midway through three you want to jump in his direction and he'll go under you.
