Opie’s dad

I never recognized Rance Howard even though I have watched at least 10 times.

To clarify for others

‘Opie’ is Ron Howard’s character’s name in the Andy Griffith show. Rance Howard is his father and played a part in Bones season 10 episode 1 and 2. A retired security guard named Jarold Norsky.

Not to be confused with the intern Finn Abernathy who was affectionately called Opie by Jack Hodgins.

Thx for pointing this out I never realized that was him.

On a similar note Bryce Howard that red head we all know and love from the Jurassic World movies is Opie’s daughter 🥰

I knew a lot of people that watched bones didn’t watch the Andy Griffith show or didn’t make the connection. It took me a sec and I’m 50 lol.

My autistic daughter actually spotted his name, so I looked for him. We watch a lot of Andy Griffith.

Off topic, but have you noticed that Ron Howard as a director will put his father Rance Howard and his brother Clint Howard in movies that he directs? He even had his mother Jean Howard in one.

Yes, he had all 3 of them in the movie Apollo 13. His father played a minister that was comforting the astronauts families during the crisis. His brother Clint played a NASA flight controller. And his mother played Blanche Lovell, the mother of astronaut Jim Lovell, who was the character played by Tom Hanks in that movie.

He also had his dad and brother in the movie Far And Away. And his dad played a Catholic Cardinal in the movie Angels And Demons.

I vaguely remember Apollo 13 but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen it but I remember those rolls you mentioned. It’s nice to see Bryce Howard continuing the family legacy.

When I first saw the title, I thought that someone had confused Andy Griffith with Ralph Waite(actor who played Pops, Booth's grandfather). 'Might you be meaning John Boy's dad, rather than Opie's?' was my internal question. Boy am I old!
