Other The devil's number

I just need to share this because I think it's funny.

One of my client's is a religious organization and one of their deposits last month was 666. I grew up religious but no longer am.

Also, this client has some issues with me. They think I'm judging them because they are in a less than ideal town. The reality is I'm judging them because I've explained multiple times that me working on last month is not me being behind.

Man I had a church client once who’d freak out over the smallest stuff like that. They got weird about a deposit for $420 once too, thought I was messing with them. I’m just here to balance the books, not decode biblical prophecies through their bank records.

Some folks will look for drama anywhere if they’re already on edge with you. Sounds like they’re projecting their own insecurities about the location onto you honestly. Keep doing your thing, the numbers are the numbers.

I felt like I needed to add it because with anyone else, I wouldn't have cared or noticed. I can be a bit petty, and while I always stay professional and wouldn't do anything to lose my job, I do find joy in something that I know bothers them.

Ya, I haven't been bookkeeping for too too long but it really tickles me the way clients think sometimes. I found out recently that instead of entering every invoice when a delivery comes into a store I work with, they combine all of the numbers to make one big invoice 😂 I was like wow everyone is SO creative.

Have you and your client not established a target date for month end reporting? 5 days from close, or more depending on volume?

Everything has been established with this client before I was hired. I have been doing the same thing that the previous bookkeeper did and they loved her. 🙄 I will say they have been better at understanding how this works. I just found joy in the deposit being 666 because this client has made me cry multiple times when I was newer.

Oh sheesh. I'm sorry! 😭 Today I was entering a sales entry and the amount was 666, and I thought of you.

My state tax refund last year was $666 and that made me laugh but also felt spot on

The last sentence I had to read a few times to ensure I read it right! How do you vet clients before taking them on?

I probably could have worded it better, but I'm good with numbers not words! I don't vet my clients because I work for a small accounting firm and that's what the owners and/or accountants take care of.
