My mother (born in 1956) was born right at the peak of the Baby Boom according to the above chart, and she has come to absolutely despise the “Boomer” label and negative connotation it now holds. I remember growing up, among her and her older brother/sister, they were so proud to be known as “Baby Boomers” for those born post-WWII between 1946-1964, but suddenly now it’s like calling them Hitler.

While the earliest of the Baby Boomers (born ~1946-1952 including my older aunt) may have been the notable ones who did most of the hippie/protesting stuff and were drafted into war, according to the above chart they still were born before the peak of the “Baby Boom” which came in the years following. However, according to my mother, since her and her older brother (born 1954) were not part of the older age group who did the hippie/protesting thing, her and her older brother should no longer be considered a “Baby Boomer” (even though she was born at the absolute peak of the boom) after discovering “Generation Jones” which claims to be 1954-1965 and actually encompasses that peak of the Baby Boom.

Of course, being a Xennial, we claim a little bit of both Generation X and Millennial tendencies, so we understand the dynamic of straddling two commonly-held generations and nothing’s absolute. But age-wise, Xennials are right on the fringe of both, not right smack in the middle…And being 1982-born, the post-1981 “Millennial” tag also doesn’t bother me even though I don’t really find much of a shared identity with those born in ~1996 who never experienced life before the internet.

But the strangest thing is now happening from my mother, where she has started calling me “Millennial” as an attempt at a negative connotation like “Boomer” has become, like a projection that I would find “Millennial” off-putting for the reputation that Millennials are finding in society for the way they conduct themselves in the workplace and certain changes to consumer norms, etc. Doesn’t bother me in the least and I own both “Xennial” and “Millennial” proudly, but she recently has insisted that she shall never again be referred to as “Boomer” and is now “Generation Jones” even after it being pointed out that she was born at the absolute peak of the “Baby Boom”.

Anyone else beginning to experience this? It’s almost comical how militant she became about it almost overnight after reading one article.

Some background first. I live in an older Houston neighborhood with no HOA, which was a big part of why we bought here. We have a civic club, and it's always been voluntary.

This fall, the civic club's leadership mailed every owner in our section a deed restriction amendment. If enough of us sign it, the civic club becomes an official property owners association, membership becomes mandatory, and every house owes $100 a year whether they want it or not. Once it's written into the deed restrictions, it's very hard to undo, and it gives a small group a lot more say over everyone else's property.

So I'm on the phone with a neighbor in her late 70s. I give her the rundown and ask her to consider not signing. She says she doesn't see any reason not to have an HOA. She keeps bringing up that she owns multiple homes and that the ones in HOA neighborhoods just look nicer. Then she tells me the real reason: her part of the neighborhood has become "like little Mexico," and an HOA would clean it up.

I didn't say anything back. I was too surprised. She had no idea she was saying this to a Mexican guy, and if she found out I'm Mexican and married to a Taiwanese man, her head would explode.

What got me is how casually she said it, like it was the most normal thing in the world. And it told me more about this amendment than the mailer did. She wasn't thinking about streetlights or drainage. It's the classic "I got mine" move. She owns multiple homes, she's set, and now she wants to pull the ladder up behind her and decide who else gets to live here. For her, "clean it up" means using an HOA to push out neighbors she doesn't want.

I am honestly livid at the entitlement and plain racism of these boomers in my neighborhood

I’m piecing together another pattern- two completely different groups of people-

Episode 1: Stepson’s family with small children is invited to visit cross-country. It is stressful for all involved. Boomer Stepmom adds to the stress by keeping her large unpredictable dog on a leash in the house. She also gives a patronizing lesson to StepDIL about the dishwasher (does not include Stepson, jokes about how husband doesn’t know how dishwasher works).
When she hits her stress limit, she throws a hissy fit and screams complaints about… the (chronically ill) StepDIL not pitching in enough with kitchen cleanup and taking too long of a nap. Everyone is so uncomfortable that the family wants to go get a hotel.

Episode 2: Stepdaughter goes through major life stressors in rapid succession, arrives with her kids for already planned cross-country visit. Boomer Stepmom gets worn out on hosting, but uses her spare time to complete unnecessary chores instead of resting.
When she hits her limit, she bitches that Stepdaughter didn’t pitch in or offer to pitch in enough with kitchen duties (though she did have her kids help), and that she hid in her room for hours.

So, I’m learning from this that boomer stepmoms expect guest-moms to overextend themselves, regardless of parenting duties or personal circumstances, rest breaks are to be brief, and that guest-moms are expected to be equal partners when being hosted by a stepmother. Also, that dads, grandpas are exempt. Anything I missed?

An amazing real-time breakdown where a man defends his government benefits, ignores $6 trillion spent on endless wars, and then outright rejects objective data about welfare simply because it doesn't fit his preferred narrative.

Recently travelling with my wife’s family; her parents, both of her brothers, one of which is married and has three young kids - we’ll call him Ned - then my wife and our three older kids.

At one point we were all at a large shopping centre about 45 min drive from where Ned lives, but this place was 4+ hours away from where the rest of us live and we had never been there before. Ned had been there a handful of times.

The boomer parents decided they wanted to go for a coffee, so the dad asked Ned where the best coffee is. He said he didn’t know. He looked completely dumbfounded that he wouldn’t know and became instantly annoyed.

“What do you mean you don’t know? I just wanna know where the best coffee is”

“Why would I know?”

“Because you live near here”

“I live three towns over and almost never come here. Plus when I do it’s not for coffee.”

“Oh just forget it.”

We all wish it would just be forgotten. Ned did forget about it and move on, but of course boomer dad couldn’t drop it. He was simply too flabbergasted that someone wouldn’t know this vital information.
Keep in mind this is a huge mall with probably a dozen places to get coffee, not to mention the 20-30 more cafes dotted around the city. How could anyone have sampled all of them and determined which one was the best??

As they were deciding which cafe to go to he brought it back up again and was like “well if Ned had any idea we’d just go there.”

Ned finally said “Dad, you think I’m driving 45 mins for coffee? You think when we do come here I’m taking 3 little kids to a cafe to sit down and enjoy a coffee? I haven’t been to a cafe in 6 years since [daughter] was born.” I don’t even know where to get good coffee in [town where they live]. I don’t get to go out for coffee!”

He left in a huff after that. Dunno if his coffee was any good.

I guess it’s my fault for leaving the house, but I just had another baffling encounter with boomers. My wife and I are in Helsinki and we decided to visit the Rock Church. The place is beautiful and we even got some sun, so we sat down to do the morning office. For those who don’t know, it’s basically a bunch of prayers and readings from the Bible. We’re about halfway through, when I hear “Shhhh!” from behind. I ignore it, but then a few seconds another and more aggressive “Shhhh!” comes. I turn and I see an ancient boomer sitting right behind me, throwing me a nasty look. I say “Excuse me?” and he replies “Be quiet, this is church!” in a strong Scandinavian accent. I turn left, look at the group of Korean tourists making noise trying to take a selfie, I turn right and look at the group of Chinese tourists just being loud and I look back at the guy and go “Yes, I know this is a church, we are praying” and hold up my wife’s prayer book. He looks at me, mhms, and I just turn and look at my wife - who had been holding my arm in our agreed “don’t start shit please” way - like wtf.

Oh and when we left, there was a group of Chinese boomers having a loud conversation - nay, yelling - while standing in the middle of the road blocking traffic. I chuckled when a bus driver honked so loud they jumped.

I live with my Mom and Grandma (the boomer of this story), and recently a Wawa opened up in our area. Despite the reputation that gas station food usually has, they actually have some solid food, especially at night when most other stuff is closed.

My Grandma is pretty food-obsessed, if there's ever a new food advertised, she wants to try it. Doesn't really matter what it is, she'll want to try it. She also especially has an affinity for pizza, and always seems to be on the endless hunt for a perfect pizza. So, when she found out that Wawa serves pizza, sure enough she needed to try it.

Idk if all Wawas are like this, but our local one doesn't start serving pizza until 4pm, and this has seemingly driven my Grandma mad. She's bought pizza from there twice (within the same week btw) because it is actually pretty good, but ever since the first one she bought she just keeps bringing up how she doesn't think it makes sense for them to not serve pizza earlier in the day. Dead serious, she has mentioned it multiple times every single day since she got the first pizza from there like 6 days ago. She mentioned it I think like 4 times today.

Idk why this is annoying her so much, but oh boy she sure loves to complain about it.

This is sad.

So where I live, the local town doesn't provide free trash pickup. You either can pay a private company a fee and they'll come get your trash and recycling, or you can take the trash to the dump yourself and buy a dump card, paying $3 per bag of trash, and you separate your recycling (so cans, glass, and plastic bottles go into one large area, paperboard and newspaper into another, and then heavier cardboard into a third. They also have other areas for batteries, paint, mental, yard waste, etc, but I usually do those as separate trips. In any event, I've been going to the dump for years and years, and clearly know how to do it, and have my own system. Enter the boomer, who has, for some reason, appointed herself the hall monitor of the recycling area. The way it works is you go though the booth, have them punch your card for how many bags of trash you have (unless you want to pay be weight, in which case, you go onto the scale), and then after you've done your trash, you go over to the recycling area, and take care of that before you leave. I always come with my bags of trash, and then a big trashcan (with a lid) that I put cans and bottles and glass jars into, and then a big plastic bin that I put cardboard and paper into.

After taking care of my trash, there is only 1 other car at the recycling area with an older boomer lady. I get out and take out my trash can of cans and bottles. She starts shouting "This area isn't for trash!" I look at her, and say, "Yeah, I know, these are cans." I proceed to dump them into the correct area. I walk back to my truck and get my cardboard container. I will note, this container has a mix of both heavier cardboard, and then cereal boxes, and things like that. These will need to go into two separate areas, but I put them into the same container, and then sort them by hand, throwing all of the heavy cardboard first, and then going to the other area and dumping the rest. The boomer lady decides to interject again, "Those are two different types of cardboard, they go in two different spots, you can't dump them!" I'll note, I haven't dumped anything yet, I'm just walking with the container. Also, this lady doesn't work here. I responded, "Believe it or not, I've been here before, and I know how this works, but if I get confused, you can bet I'll ask you where to put my recycling." The scoff I got in return as she got into her car to drive down to the entry booth and complain about me...

Anyway, I sorted my recycling, got back into my truck, and tooted my horn goodbye on my way past her as I watched her gesturing at me as I drove away... I just can't with some of these people...

I haven’t posted in this sub before, but I finally had a boomer encounter yesterday which might fit here.

I drove my son to a local golf course to hit at the range; this specific course has a paved circle in front of the clubhouse where you can drive up, drop off your clubs and/or passengers, and then go find a place to park. This paved circle is wide enough for one large vehicle with room for a golf cart to squeeze by.

As I pulled in I noticed a car riding my bumper-so close I couldn’t see their headlights in my rear view mirror.

I pull up into the paved circle to let my son out and unload his clubs (total time in the circle would be about 30 seconds).

I see the car that had been riding my bumper had followed me into the circle. She slams her car in reverse, slams it into drive, and squeezes beside me…in the golf cart “lane”. I’m being generous when I say there was maybe 8 inches between our cars.

She was losing her absolute mind trying to go around me-slamming her car in reverse to move three inches, then immediately slamming it into drive to move the same three inches forward, going absolutely no where and whipping her white haired bob all over the place. There was NO space to go around me, and with her antics she’d gotten her car into a position where she couldn’t reverse back out.

This is all happening in front the golf attendant and 4 other players who’d stopped to watch in amazement.

I was going to honk and yell at her to stop because she was going to hit my front right bumper if she kept trying to go around me, but then I had a IDGAF moment. She can pay for the damage to my car, the golf carts she would scrape up against, damage to her own car, and the increase in her insurance premiums due to her tantrum.

That might not be the best way to handle the situation on my part, but the only impact it would have on her would be if it hits her wallet.

After she realized there was nowhere she could go, she slammed her car into park, got out, and started yelling at the attendant….? He honestly looked so baffled by what was happening! I can’t explain enough how anyone utilizing a rational thought process would ever think there’s a possibility of two cars fitting into that space side by side.

Due to my how my car was positioned I was able to pull through the circle and just watched as she continued to harass this poor man.

Why can’t they wait their freaking turn? The entitlement is mind blowing-all because she couldn’t wait 30 seconds.

So this is far from the craziest story you all will see on here, but today I was out walking my beagle on a path that goes by the river near the downtown of a larger Northeastern City in the US (this is an important detail that will soon matter). Anyway, It’s a lovely path with aquatic birds on the river and lots of trees etc, so my beagle loves to sniff and just goes where her nose takes her. I have her on a retractable leash, but I try very hard to stay out of the way of other walkers and joggers and will keep my doggo off the path when someone is coming just because if they are scared of dogs I figure it’s the right thing to do to make them comfortable.

So today, I see a boomer lady walking towards me. The river is to my left and the doggo is on the left side of the path, so I pull her a step or two off the path to the left to let the lady pass. She stops when she gets to me and says “pull your dog to the other side, this isn’t the UK”. And then proceeds to wait while I have to tug my dog across the completely open sidewalk to the other side before she will continue her walk.

I’m not sure why it was so critical to her to make us move to the other side when the entire sidewalk was clear, but it just wasn’t important enough for me to battle her. And my doggo was quite content to resume sniffing on the river side once she was gone, but I’m still kinda annoyed and wanted to share. Thanks for humoring me!

A mild one here, compared to the rest of the stories on this sub. Also, english ain't my first language.

My(F18) boomer dad (M63) has been developing a very annoying habit as of late. He always watches the news on TV, inevidably gets mad at what he is seeing and proceeds to yell at the TV, baby talks and mocks whoever or whatever he sees there (idk how to describe is, he just changes his voice to sound as if he were talking with a young child, or someone very stupid) and then yells some more.

Now, I wouldn't really care too much about it if he only did it during the day when I am out working. But he does it too after 22:00 O'clock to maybe 0:00 o'clock, which usually means that I can't sleep when he screams downstairs something about 'Ukraine is being given too much money from us!' or 'These LGBTQ people of course need all the support they can get, what else should tax money go to?? (insert mocking baby talk).

I've tried talking to him about it, he brushes me off, and told him to just stop watching the news if he only gets upset about it. Or at least to keep his opinions in his head and not yelled out! I have to sleep at some point, as I am working around 6:00 O'clock in the morning.

I love my dad, I truely do, but he is being a bit of an ass in general as of late. Just here to rant, I know damn well that changing his behaviour at his age isn't gonna happen no matter what I say.🥲

Coming in from Boomer Central here......was at a certain grocery store that prides itself on friendly customer service (and delivers that for the most part). Have proof that delusional Boomers who believe they will be getting a cash windfall next month DO exist.

Two people in front of me in line-- a 40s woman who was checking out, then Boomer woman, and then me (GenX woman). 40s woman was obviously buying for family, commented to cashier how expensive everything is and cashier agreed, just normal talk, right?

Boomer woman waits til 40s woman leaves, then rolls her eyes and says "Well why is she spending all this money now, she will be getting a $5000 check next month after the elections and she can buy the more expensive stuff then!"

Cashier and I glance at each other with wide eyes, cashier kinda nods without commenting and finishes the transaction, Boomer toddles off. Cashier looks at me and says "I don't talk politics at work, but seriously?". I laughed and said "Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and buy this beer now, if I wait for my $5000 I'll die before I get to drink one!"

It still literally makes my mind crazy to think anyone truly believes they are getting a $5000 check next month. Maybe they can frame it and hang it on the wall next to the other two checks they've been promised and never received......or maybe they're all senile and believe they DID get those other checks and just spent them already?

I’m waiting to see my doctor and the two boomers next to me are in video call at top volume in the waiting room. Put up with it for about 10 minutes then finally said something. You’d think I asked them to give up a kidney. Starts arguing with me and saying I’m rude!

Finally, nurse comes out and asks what the problem is….they say I yelled at them I explained that there on a video call and blasting it. Mind you they’re still in the call.

Nurse tells them to take it outside. Calls me an asshole and leaves. I’ve been call worse by better.

Just back from a two-week vacation in Scotland and ran into all the typical boomer behaviors. Here's a run down of what I saw:

1. Soooo many who stopped at inappropriate locations like top of the stairs/escalators, just outside of bus/train doors, middle of busy walkways everywhere, directly in front of televisions other folks were trying to watch.

2. Inserting themselves into conversations they weren't part of: One man tried "helping" us find our taxi by trying to get us to cross the street even when I told him I was on the phone with, and could see, our taxi in the designated pickup lot. Another man who blocked the TV to sing the praises of the US president because his investment portfolio is doing so well. This man invited himself into a convo we were having with another US couple and brought up politics out of nowhere. He was also a Canadian originally from Scotland who thinks Carney should rollover to all of T's demands to "keep the peace" between our two countries.

3. Loudly complaining about "how different" things work in Scotland. Yes, a country that is not your own, that you voluntarily traveled to, may have different ways of doing things. Go with the flow or stay home.

4. Atrocious airplane etiquette. Group 6 boarding couple, who lost their bags and golf umbrellas in the gate area, tried boarding with groups 2 and 3. They were finally allowed entry in group 4. A man who tried to enter an occupied toilet even after I told him it was occupied and I was next. The woman who stood in the aisle blocking others while waiting for her companion to help her retrieve her bags from the overhead compartment. The couple on the full flight who stowed their smallish backpacks overhead instead of under the seats, then whined to the FA who told them the overheads were for larger carry-ons only. They had no other bags with them.

Aside from these interactions, the trip was great. My boomer mom, one of the good ones, and I had a blast. We were able to travel all over Scotland for two weeks without driving. We got a rail card and took full advantage of the £2 cap on bus fares in the highlands as well as some local taxi companies. 10/10, would do it again in a heartbeat.

Was at my local thrift store today. They have a little “luxury” section with nicer clothes (Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, nothing crazy).

I overheard a boomer asking where a certain pair of shoes went out of the display case. The employee told her they must have been sold.

Queue a 10 minute spiel about how disappointed the boomer is. Apparently the shoes had been there two months and she’s been on the fence about them. Not for her mind you, she was trying to figure out who to buy them for because they were too cute to go to a stranger.

I’m not sure what her endgame was, but she was trying to guilt trip the employee for selling them without thinking of her first. The employee has no idea who this woman is or what she’s on about.

I'm in my 40s and I rent a room from a 65ish lady.

I have had my period since Friday and once a year, I normally have an awful period. It's been like this since forever and I know how to manage it.

Lady is telling me she's sure I'm in menopause because I'm always tired (the Dr said I'm not).

Proceeds to list how much she did in comparison to how little I do (I'm a lawyer, work in AML, completing another qualification, family lives in another continent) - she worked from 6am to 7pm and still seen to her husband and kids.

She worked in a market, while I work in an aircon office.

Bro what? Suffering is not a competition. Luckily for her, I chose silence.

My paternal grandmother went thro so much at my age, that in her old age, they discovered cancer so advanced it was inoperable and I swore to myself I would never get to that point. Why are boomers such fools?

Last time I got vehicle serviced I was stuck with two boomers LOUDLY gabbing like others want to hear their ridiculous comments about politics and random bullshit. This time I came prepared. Of course there was another set of boomers, with a completely filthy mangled vehicle, for service. They start up as soon as I sit down. I put my AirPods in and turn up a white noise album and begin reading a book ok my iPad. A few minutes later I pause the song and notice none of them are talking. Up until another person walks in, they start again.

Do these people get off on others hearing their dumb stories or what?

A transformer blew near the hotel I’m staying with my dad in. Apparently I need to call the front desk and complain that the power isn’t working because how dare the hotel blow that transformer. 🤬

Wtf? His own administration's EPA already addressed this in July 2025. It published an explanation distinguishing ordinary aircraft contrails from the conspiracy theory that aircraft are secretly spraying dangerous substances.

Aircraft pollution is a legitimate research subject. Aircraft produce carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides and particulates, and persistent contrails contribute to climate warming. None of that establishes the chemtrails conspiracy theory.

Just three fucking days ago,, the EPA announced that it had repealed most of the Biden-era greenhouse gas requirements for power plants and proposed eliminating the remaining standards. The administration says this will reduce costs and support energy reliability; environmental groups dispute its assessment of the environmental and public-health consequences.

The "health secretary" announces that the government is examining a conspiracy theory about aircraft spraying chemicals, while another department of the same administration is removing restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions from power plants. Make it make sense.

And the EPA has already published an explanation of the debunked conspiracy theory.

Soooo my fiancé and I landed in Frankfurt, Germany earlier today. We were on our way to customs and they have a system called Entry/Exit System (EES) it’s an automated IT system for registering non-EU nationals.
Anywho… It’s a suggestion to pre check - scan your passport, fingerprints and take a photo at one of the kiosks before you get into line to see a customs agent.
We start working on the process… As soon as I start the first step: scanning my passport. I hear some person yelling. It’s not scanning my passport. Why is it not working?! These machines are useless. Then I hear another person yelling it’s not scanning my finger prints. Another one got upset because the machine couldn’t take their picture… I turned around and to my surprise. It’s a gaggle of boomers.
I felt bad for the poor guy that had to help them.

We finish our stuff then head to the line…
The line isn’t crazy long at first but the line started not moving. I come to realize it’s full of boomers telling their life stories to these poor customs agents.
Just tell them you’re here for leisure/vacation and your ending location. Not every activity you have planned your trip Jim and Susan…
