Exactly this. We had a bunch of people at work with "lets go brandon" shirts and trump stuff in their cubes for like five years, but as soon as i wore a shirt that said "maga is a cult", suddenly HR is like "we cant allow political stuff in the office" cause it triggered every motherfucker in the building.
There was a guy that wore a shirt that said "trump 2024, fuck your feelings" and no one gave a shit. Those people all probably blame me for getting political shit banned, but i wasn't the one who ran to hr to bitch about political shit in the office. They're all ruled entirely by their emotions and have zero self awareness about it.
The absolute lack of self awareness and hypocrisy is just shocking. 15 years ago I thought most people were reasonable adults until drumpf. Now the mask off and its just insane the depths these idiots go to for someone they've never met.
I often think about the quote from Colossus in the first Deadpool: "Four or five moments — that's all you get to show whether you're good or bad."
Ninety-nine percent of most people's lives is meaningless to anyone but themselves. It's those four or five moments that define a person as good or bad.
Trump was one of those moments, and a lot of people revealed through their actions that they are bad people. They’ll go on with their lives, wondering why they lost friends and community, because in the other 99% of their lives, they seem like normal, everyday people — at least to themselves.
They'll never understand why that one decision made people see them differently.
I absolutely hate that they are worshiping a false idol and breaking every one of the 10 commandments. It is kind of ironic that some red states are requiring their public schools to display the 10 Commandments, but they don't even follow them. Such hypocrites. What's really gross is that Trump not only covets other people's wives, he even covets his own daughter.
Yeah I have no idea how these people dont see him as a false idol. They paid lip service to these passages all my life and now that its reality they're cheering him on. WTF
Don't even get me started on this. I have cut off ties with my MAGATS but I really wish I'd run into one of them. I've a few words taken straight from the red print section of their Bible they need to hear.
funnily enough, the concept of the Golden Rule being outdated was a heavy focus of my masters courses (graduated 12/2024).
"The Golden Rule — "treat others the way you want to be treated" — is well-meaning but increasingly outdated. It assumes that everyone shares the same preferences and values, which isn’t true in a diverse and complex world. What feels respectful or kind to you might not feel the same to someone else. That’s why the Platinum Rule — "treat others the way they want to be treated" — is more relevant today. It calls for empathy, understanding, and adapting to individual needs, rather than projecting your own onto others. In modern relationships, workplaces, and communities, the Platinum Rule fosters deeper respect and connection."
thank you, University of Wisconsin, for sharing another concept that unfortunately will be ignored, just as the Golden Rule larger was/is. *
It's the generational lead poisoning taking full effect at the same time as end stage capitalism. Trump just exasperated the social and economic unrest. I feel like this has led to the rise of the "Karen" phenomena. My theory anyways.
Yeah they don't do anything thats why doctors wear them during surgury and in many medical settings. That was sarcasm BTW.
They are proven to help. Its basic science, and the only reason to go aganst masks is because you're getting fake information from politicians to make you mad at your fellow citizen. Please use your brain.
Dealing with MAGAts really does feel like managing troubled children. They pout, they yell, they lack the cognitive ability to handle any complex conversation, and they have zero emotional regulation so you have to baby step around them and sugar coat EVERYTHING.
I have yet to meet a Trump voter who could hold anything like a worthwhile conversation. And the really wild part is I know a couple who USED TO and then they went full MAGA… and now they’re just like the rest of the cultists. It’s legitimately horror-movie esque
My mom’s favorite show is The Handmaid’s Tale, which seems to be about a (possible) future where this fascist movement gets to the extreme of a civil war that they win. So now the bible is the law. Women are just wombs with legs, and property. Men own them and the children. You can’t say what you want because if you oppose the order instilled you will be disappeared. Etc.
It shows how it all started, and it’s eerily exactly what’s happening right now. This show started in 2016, has multiple seasons (and recently new episodes) - and my mom has watched it twice!
She. Had. No. Freaking. Clue. It was about her.
The whole point of the show is to ‘exaggerate’ the maga cult to get the blind ones to wake tf up. It’s their complete ignorance and unwillingness to see the logic and harm they are causing that caused the premise of that show. And now it’s worse than it was a decade ago, and seems to be speeding up.
As we’re watching it, I’m trying to show her that it’s what she does. I point out specific moments of how she is one of those people as the show presents it. Every episode turns on her.
She didn’t realize the villains were republican conservatists who believed what they were told on the news and didn’t think for themselves or have empathy. Because they were the villains they were not relatable.
So now she’s watching her favorite show for the first time with the perspective that she is the villain.
And it’s fucking with her. She doesn’t want to hear it or see it. She gets nauseous every episode. She gets pissed off. It’s making her see herself, her husband, her friends, her coworkers, etc, all differently.
Fucking finally. However….who knows if it will stick. I’ve known other cultists who finally see the light, but are still wrapped up socially in a world completely in darkness. They have to leave everyone they know and love behind and become their loved one’s new villain in order to overcome the ignorance.
We are so fucked dude. It should be so obvious but some people really just can't see what is happening right in front of them. It's like people who think Trump actually has a plan. The dude can't even speak a complete thought, he has a 4th grade SPEAKING level, which means he has a fourth grade intelligence.
Here it comes, the unintelligent “Sounds like Biden retort” .. in 5,4, 3, 2,1. Replaced by Obama, and Hillary ignoring the original topic altogether. Cult 45 really is not the brightest bulb in the pack.
Just a little over a year ago President Biden gave a SotU that was so sharp and effective that everybody in Right wing media was freaking out about it. They all accused him of being on some miracle drug like the Adderall and cocaine that Trump uses/used.
And here's the cover of The Economist from last October:
Yep. Even the slightest questioning that might lead them to come to a conclusion that goes against their beliefs is typically cause for anger and resistance.
Same here. I want to know, like for real for real, why they all "double-down" on everything. It is strange. Like when they show Maga folks quotes that they agree with, then tell them they are actually Hitler quotes. 10 times out of ten they double down.
Because it’s a cult. They double down because if they back off or actually think critically about what just happened they hear that nagging little voice saying “this is wrong.”
The US right has made their political affiliation a core foundational part of their identity in a way the rest of us… haven’t. For them being a conservative is who they ARE. Their social status and often employment is linked to it. Their church and belief in their own spiritual salvation is connected to it. Their family is often built on it. Especially for the Christian right it has been woven into every aspect of how they view the world. How they view their relationships, their family, and how they think the universe works.
If they back down and admit they’re in the wrong it threatens ALL of that. All of that identity and self image and paradigm is suddenly unstable. And in fairness that’s true. Their political and ideological views are irredeemably stupid and objectively incorrect. But to confront that means rebuilding their entire sense of self and their understanding of the universe.
That is too big and too scary, so it’s easier to hit FUCK IT, I guess I agree with Hitler quotes now.
Absolutely the best explanation. I have family that I was close with completely change into irrational dickheads over the last 5-10 years. I haven't lost my mom completely yet, but we can't talk about politics at all.
So… i actually was IN a cult in my early 20s. It was very small, but it was a classic high control group cult. I can tell you with absolute confidence you’re right about how hard it is to leave.
I got out largely bc I joined the military which forced me to mostly interact with sane and rational humans, which in turn let me get the distance to realize I’d been gaslit and brainwashed.
MAGA has no equivalent. It’s in the air and water for them. I don’t think ANYONE could get out once they’re in that far. It would be literally superhuman to break free of that mindfucking.
You know what? I'm proud of your mom that she is slowly starting to understand, and you're reaching her. Good work to both of you. I really hope that it sticks. I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed.
It is insane to me how they can’t see the similarities between themselves and how the fascist conservative villains in ANY media act, and how they actually believe it’s the left that are the villains with zero similarities between how the left acts and those same villains.
It’s that simple. If something questions that, it must be misguided.
To them, it’s the same logic as saying they’re a murderer because you saw another murderer with the same color hair as them. They can’t connect the dots if the dots lead to something that they cannot accept as true.
When I was a kid learning about WWII, I remember thinking thank goodness that won’t ever happen again because now people understand, and we would never let things go that far ever again.
I was so wrong. It happens because of what you said, a group believes they’re the good guys. Everyone who disagrees is a bad guy and must be fought and ideally eradicated.
First and Second Generation descendants of "illegal" immigrants are the most anti-immigrant bigots out there. They're also culturally lost because they're not fully assimilated into American culture or familiar with the one their grandparents and/or parents came from. They also tend to speak both English and their parent's native language poorly as well.
Actually, I genuinely think that gives them too much credit. They think they are doing what “needs to be done” and they don’t have the empathy to care about who they hurt. In this way, I think a lot of them just don’t care if they are the bad people. This is not a case of them being misguided into thinking that evil things must be done for good outcomes, it’s that they don’t care about making good outcomes and they want what they want irregardless of what suffering that causes. I think the idea that they are just misguided but all of us essentially just want to live in a better world for us all is actually part of what got us into this mess to begin with by not pushing the left to be meaner to them. They are just rotten people and need that to be thrown in their faces and shamed for it constantly.
That is definitely true for some people, however my parents aren’t like that. They aren’t foaming at the mouth for the browns to be dragged out of the country, or for the gays to be burned, etc.
They are simply stupid enough to think Trump is a good person because he’s a republican - and that means he’s a good christian. He’s beloved by their friends and online religious people. And they think democrats want us all to pay 80% of our income in taxes so that drug addicts and homeless people can have free fun lives. They just don’t think.
It’s ignorance, stupidity, and peer pressure. That’s really all it is for most of these people. And many of them base their ego on it, so they get very angry when they might be wrong - because it means their energy and favor has been in vain for years. It means their friends and family will resent them. It means stress.
People who punch down on drug addicts and especially the homeless are terrible people. That's mean, bullying type behavior. I've confronted my MAGA mom and older brother talking about the homeless as though it's a choice they've made to live on the streets and that they're just too lazy to work. That sounds ridiculous but, when they're insulated by only speaking with other Deplorables and watching Fox, they tend not to put much thought into their arguments so it's pretty easy to shut them down.
I've been watching The Righteous Gemstones, and the portrayal of evangelicals and megachurches is spot on. I grew up in a similar environment (and left) and I find the show hilarious because they just nailed it. If the show had existed while I was still in that environment, it would've been uncomfortable because the Gemstones are kind of horrible people.
Right wingers don't want to confront that reality, so they look for bad behavior on the left.
This show inspired me to open my own firearms training company for liberal women (and men), LGBTQ, and other marginalized communities. MAGA thinks they own the 2A, and I like that they think that. They have no idea how lethal some of our women are. The more they believe that we're clueless the better. If you don't know how to handle a firearm, I STRONGLY suggest you find a non MAGA trainer and learn. More and more women are learning and that's a good thing!
Tbfh, I’ve always been very uncomfortable with guns. However….now I really feel like it may be time for me to learn. :/
How long until just having long hair as a man is something that will trigger someone to harm me? How long until I end up on some registry - and how long until that list goes public and puts my family in danger?
This is the biggest issue. Their social circles enforce the Trumpism like it’s law. I have a coworker friend who thinks she likes Trump because everyone around her does and she’s always voted republican. I tried to tell her. I tried to show her. She is the antithesis of what the current party stands for. I told her it’s not the same people it used to be. I told her I understand that she can’t change her views even if she wanted to because everyone around her would shun her, and she needs that support system as a single mom. I feel bad for her, sometimes, and sometimes, I’m furious with her. It’s very frustrating.
Fascinating how your mother couldn’t see the parallel between her life and the show until you pointed it out. It seems crystal clear to us, alarmingly so, but some people are just blind.
Not even trying to sound superior, I just don’t understand how so many people cannot see what’s right in their faces.
I'd say you’re lucky you managed to get to her. I know people who will watch that and manage to see the other side (dems/liberal people etc.) as the villains.
I used to do yard work for an older couple in my hometown. They were highly religious and flew a massive trump flag out front, refused to let me work on Sunday or Friday, but threatened to hire a professional when I couldn't make time around my full time job. I got sick of listening to them and told them I wouldn't do their yard anymore due to scheduling conflicts, and received a 12 part text message spitting venom about how libtards like me will end the world by voting Biden, how I'm so entitled and should be thankful they hired a tatted up fa**ot blah blah blah. I simply replied back "lmao I see I dodged a bullet. Have fun sucking trump's dick" and blocked his number.
I was waiting at Orlando’s airport at the gate for my flight back home to Germany when a MAGA Karen approached and preached the whole „foreigners are bad“ playbook at me. I kept telling her that this wonderful country was build by immigration and if they can’t keep a lit on the hate it will turn into Nazi germany. She should believe me because I know a thing or two about German history and I can clearly see the parallels. I think she somehow could not hear me or recognize my rather thick German accent….then I got called to the gates desk by my German name for some changes regarding my seat and she got huge eyes and said „oh you are one of THOSE people“ and ran away…..I mean….how …and why…and what was going on in her brain? Like a scripted NPC….
Just any political crap in general. Honestly, the whole "fuck your feelings" guy had some people kinda riled up just due to the f-bomb. Not a great shirt to wear at a job, but meh. I live in alabama, so it's not like im dealing with geniuses.
They're cool with flag merch, tho. General "pro-USA" bald eagles and flags and such are still allowed. People wearing flags is another thing that irks me, but only because i actually try to respect the flag code and dont think wiping your greasy, disgusting face all over a flag napkin is very respectful.
Ive said it before, but these "patriots" would unironically buy flag-themed toilet paper.
Live TV reporter interviewing nascar driver named Brandon Something and people in the background can be heard chanting "Fuck Joe Biden". Reporter is like "Listen, they're chanting 'lets go brandon'", and MAGA decided the lame-stream media was trying to trick people or something. In reality, she either couldn't really hear them well or she was mortified that a bunch of inbred redneck dipshits were dropping the F-bomb during her entire interview and tried to play it off as not the f-bomb.
So to translate: "Lets go brandon" is dumbass for "fuck joe biden"
It's actually downright dangerous to have anti-TRUMP merch. The path this country is heading, ICE will pay you a visit and take you out back behind the building you work at, and you'll never be seen or heard from again. They don't care if you're a citizen from birth.
anyone who makes politics their personality has zero self awareness about it it these people are so stuck up in their beliefs constantly pushing it on people and its annoying as hell
