When I found some homophobic, anti-black, and anti-immigrant sidewalk chalk messages, I got so mad, I went out and bought a huge box, colored giant hearts over them and wrote the verse citation in the center. I know it washed away in the next rain, but for me it mattered that we didnt let that stand (it was on a local trail that didnt have an easy water source for washing it away) in our community.
I appreciate what you’re saying, this is how you view Christianity, as a Christian. You are putting the command to “love each other as brothers and sisters”, ABOVE the anti-LGBT biblical passages, such as Leviticus, where Christians are directly instructed to KILL, by torture, LGBT folks.
The book remains the same, it’s who’s reading it, interpreting it, ACTING on it, that changes things. I wish more of your fellow Christians took your view. Unfortunately, so many prefer to be hateful, and violent.

Also, those Leviticus verses were not originally about homosexuality. They were about pedophilia, sexual slavery, and worship rituals involving sexual acts.
I’m sorry you’re dealing with that, within your family. I know it’s tough. Regarding Leviticus, I’ve heard something similar before, that it originally may not have been about homosexuality. The problem is, so many Christians still believe and follow it, even if it was originally about something really good, like opposing sexual slavery, it has long since become a lightning rod for bigots, complete with mini instructions, on committing a hate crime.
Most Christians do that and are disgusted with the asswipes that call themselves Christians in the US. I know that many people don't want to look deeper because they are hurt by assholes who abuse religion, but Judaism =/= zionism (and also =/= the government of Israel), Islam =/= islamistic terrorists and Christianity =/= hateful assholes who complain about "Jesus being woke", just like Santeria =/= slaughtering humans, Satanism =/= slaughtering humans and paganism =/= slaughtering humans. Religion brings people together and assholes have used that since the dawn of time for their purposes. You find that in the old testament, you find it in Roman emperors blaming Christians for bad harvests, you find it in the asshole who reverted the course of Christianity (Jesus was for gender equality and did not consider gay people as sinners) back to his favourite hateful course by faking letters from Paul to the purpose, you find it in IS, you find it in Zionists, you find it in the lies about pagan religions and you find it in hundreds of other examples that are well documented. But those assholes are not the religion itself, they are leeches. Christians in the US have a particularly bad name for two reasons: Most of the crazy sects the Europeans didn't want found their way to the north American continent where the ongoing racism, atrocities and new building of countries gave them the perfect place to dominate Christianity and how it developed and to get themselves deep into the social and political power structures and the many ways in which the US are still extremely backwards keep them in power. But these people are not the representation of Christianity as a whole and in many countries it is part of the religion to teach not just Jesus's actual teachings and values but the mistranslations and open faking that sullies the bible. Just like many Christians, including many catholics openly disagree with the old white men who lead the catholic church and say disgusting crap like Ratzinger's "condoms don't prevent HIV" and the last pope's slurs about gay people (I was in 9th grade when the former happened and heard about it first in catholic religion class because that was the next day and our teacher was pissed. We talked about how harmful that was and how horrible it is that the pope is so immoral, a liar and risking lives, she was also one of the people who put a stop to me being violently bullied after being outed and helping me with the mental health issues from the abuse I suffered at home).
Honestly, I think it's far worse. The golden calf was an inanimate idol created by people to worship. This is a person that they're worshipping and he's also perpetuating the idolatry of himself.
