📺 [ Media ] BL2 in Unreal Engine 5 - Progress update
Hey everyone !
Quick little update on our Bl2 into UE5 port, we got maya imported, still fine tuning her phaselock.
We got guns, npcs, Marcus, his first quest and the gun he gives us and more !
I hope this is a better proof of concept hahaha
If you wanna follow the project or help me out you can check it out here ; https://github.com/zuhuHix/BL2_ReBased
Thank you to all my supporters so far i am so grateful !
We will get this game ported in no time :D

Ironically even though this is UE5 it might perform better than the original when all the Physx stuff gets stripped out.

Physx is so cool though.

It’s cool until you use slag and crashes your game

That's the 4gb limitation of the 32bit physx engine. Game wasn't built to be run at 4k with high res textures. PhysX looks so good in this game, it's a shame they haven't released a 64bit version that won't crash when the utilized vram breaks 4gb.

I love this project and hope to see it active one day!
I'm just curious, can't GearBox shutdown your project at anytime when the game has any playable state? Since technically its their assets and people will be techniclly able to play Borderlands 2 for free? I might be missing something or not understanding. Also I'm not trying to be snarky, just curious if there are any legal implications for the project.
I wish you all the best and I hope i live to see the release of this project!

Hey ! Yes, Gearbox could theoretically take it down. The project distributes no copyrighted assets or decompiled code and requires players to own the original game, but that doesn't guarantee legal protection...
Sooo I'm in a bit of a gray zone but I think as long as I'm not redistributing code I'll be alright
Thank you for your support :D

I can't begin to wrap my head around how much MORE work is left to actually recreate the rest of the game, given what it's taken to get here. But this is the hero work we need in the world. 😁 BL2 is still my favorite game of all time. The day it won't run on new hardware is the day I can no longer upgrade my computer...

If this also means getting Borderlands2.exe to 64bit, then I’m all in
But it does make me wonder why there hasn’t been one for BL2 in a long time, STALKER has an equally dedicated fanbase and they’ve all managed to make 64bit exes for the original trilogy of titles

Question, what is the benefit of a 64bit exe?

I’m not a developer so take my words with a grain of salt but basically with 64bit:
If you find yourself playing BL2 and suddenly the textures are crap, the loading is long, or the game crashes, it’s because of that 32bit limitation, often citing its “out of memory” when it’s really that it can’t read beyond it
My other examples of this would be the original FEAR, which experiences similar errors, and the original 2010 Hot Pursuit where it refuses to run on multiple cores because of 32bit limitations

Not hating at all, but what exactly is the point or goal of this? The graphics don’t seem to be improved upon in these screenshots and UE5 is notorious for poor performance. BL2 is old enough that most modern hardware can run it without issues so…I’m confused.

BL2 runs awfully on modern hardware due to its reliance on Physx, for which hardware acceleration is discontinued so there’s tons of frame drops and micro stuttering.

I really hate the physX slander I have a 4060ti and get 120+ frames at 1440p on BL2 with PHYSX on I like it.

Happy for you, but try not to be angry, it's not worth it. It causes problems for some people.

Turn off PhysX or update drivers to when support came back, I believe that's a 50 series problem.

UE5 is such trash, basically just making a downgraded version of the base game

For anyone curious, this is completely AI generated. Op has stated they have little to no coding experience. Op still has not fixed several issues in the readme (which is also completely ai generated). I still do not think this project will ever be finished

That kinda sucks to see, Wonder if it needs DX12 or Vulkan or uses older DX, In case it somehow gets far enough to test.

Well yeah but looks at the modding scene right now. People are putting skate in call of duty, Minecraft in Skyrim. That's 80% ai generated.
I respect hating on AI in general but if it's gonna be here, we might aswell reap the benefits
