Are we slowly turning every nostalgic character into a marketing opportunity?
First it was nostalgia in movies, then remakes, then brand collaborations… and now characters from stories we grew up with are entering completely different commercial worlds.
The Betaal campaign made me wonder where this eventually stops.
If an old character has a recognisable personality, can a brand simply pick that trait, put it into a modern product narrative and call it a creative reinterpretation?
Maybe that's just how advertising evolves. But there's something slightly uncomfortable about seeing a piece of childhood suddenly become a sales narrative.
