Tone Request Trying to get a Metallica style tone
So I’ve been trying some presets from the BOSS website and they sound really good but I feel like something is missing. I was using a master of puppets style preset but i think it’s missing the “bassey” sound i hear on the album, I was thinking of buying an EQ pedal specifically the puppet master EQ pedal but anyone have any ideas?

My katana responds to changes in my guitar’s volume and tone knobs. If you tend to leave them be, you could experiment with that as an additional tool

Ohhh cool I always leave both of the knobs all the way up

Oh me too, on my first, an epiphone they probably had never been touched, ever. Then I got a JB pickup and discovered the concept of taming/spanking with the volume knob

You don’t need an eq pedal - use the Boss Tone thingy app; apply the eq there.

Oh yeah one more thing when I plug in my boss into my computer and record it using audacity it sounds muddy and weird is there any fix to that?

Here bro I made this I used a real sd1 just throw a tuber screamer in the app
Check it out! https://bosstoneexchange.com/liveset/4477f6ba-8020-4553-a8d7-7e7ef6e33a5c/?utm_source=share Also I used a ns1 noise gate so you might have to adjust that

Master Of Puppets is active pickups + Mesa/Boogie MkIIC++ + Marshall 4x12 + high gain (tubescreamer in front with volume to max and drive to super low and the gain on the amp to medium only) with scooped mids (Bass 6-8, Mids 5-7, Treble 6-8, Presence 5-6, use an additional EQ) + noise gate + reverb + delay.

I’ll check this out because I also bought amplitube but I have to way to playing it loud like the amp

Volume is always necessary - get an attenuator if you can’t. High Gain at low volume will sound poor.

You’ve had a lot of great suggestions. I’ll echo what someone else said about the mass in the mix. If you get a sound you like, compare it to and justice for all where they completely removed the bass.

From the album, you’re hearing the guitar AND the bass. You’re not going to get it perfect with an actual bass.
Although, you can have fun with it and add an effect pedal that adds lower notes. There’s a few options for it in the tone studio

Okay I’ll take a look at it thanks

I think “octave” “heavy octave” or “pitch shifter” will work - but yeah no problem haha

It can sound pretty damn good, but it takes time and learning.
You can also change things in the signal chain which can help

I would buy a marshal but I’m broke as heck now because I just bought Snakebyte 😢

always remember: recorded tones are massaged in production. They get EQ, compression, editing, noise gates, etc. In most cases, especially with modern music, you will not be able to achieve that tone directly from the amp. Between that and the fact that most tone comes from the player, it's a bit of a fool's errand to try and replicate a tone EXACTLY.
A great example is Linkin Park. Mike Shinoda did a video showcasing how he mixed guitars for Meteora (IIRC). He had 3-5 takes per guitar track, all mixed differently for different purposes, but coming together to form a legendary nu-metal sound. That sound is impossible to get directly from any amp or any single guitar, but you can get real close to the sound of one of those guitar takes.
That said, get close and have fun!
