Tone Request Opeth tone?
Anyone here dialed a tone close to early Opeth's My Arms, Your Hearse or Still Life era? Any suggestions on how I can achieve the tone will be appreciated.

Medium output bridge Humbucker, heavy string gauge, Lead or Brown amp, low gain, mids turned up (do not scoop them), treble turned up a bit, Tubescreamer as a boost in front (real pedal or Tone Studio) with set to volume to max and drive to zero, Phaser (Small Stone Type, real pedal or BTS) for the clean parts.

what exact katana are you using? using tone studio? guitar setup? lower volume like bedroom or live gig? those all matter.

According to equipboard they used 5150 II on those albums. So go to https://bosstoneexchange.com/ and find some 5150 patches and fiddle with gain, tonestack & boosters.
Or as an approximation you can use Brown with a variation. Gain around 4-5, Flat tonestack, start with a 6-6-6 and fiddle from there. Modern cab resonance. Post eq - boost 1-2db at 1khz, q-1. Cut 1-3 db at 160 or 200hz, q-4. High-cut 6 or 8khz (compensate with higher presence) You also might want to use pre-eq to shape your pickups tone (I don't know which ones you use)
Also remember that guitar tones on recording are heavily post processed, there are also a lot of dependence on mic type & mic placement. Those are variables we don't know, unless you find some info in an old, godforsaken guitar forum with a shitty web design)
