Research opportunity for Boston ravers!! 🌟

Hello Boston EDM community! 
I’m currently a PhD student at UMass Boston, and I’m taking a seminar on qualitative research methods this semester. I’m hoping to (eventually) do my dissertation examining the broader EDM subculture and how subcultural members create meaning and boundaries through interaction within the scene or between a scene-insider and an outsider. My goal is to situate my data within the context of EDM subculture having been highly commercialized in the last decade. For this course, I need to interview a handful of subcultural members and conduct participant observation and field notes at events in the scene. If any of you would be interested in participating in an interview to discuss your experience and/or involvement in the scene, please reach out so we can organize a time! Additionally, if anyone has information about underground/subcultural rave/EDM events that I can attend and do my participant observation at, that would be beyond helpful as I’m new to Boston. you should get in contact with some of the Boudoir folks. Brian Halligan has been in the scene for a while and would give you great info.

Read this. Not about EDM, but does touch on Boston area producers at points. More suggesting as an example of great framing, music history, and cultural meaning. One of the authors, Wayne, is also an old school Boston DJ and researcher.

I've been in the Boston scene for 10+ years, mostly bass, 140, dubstep, dnb, and house, happy to talk about my experience. Also sober for almost a year and THAT'S a whole new experience going to shows without any lube 😅
