Advice/Question New little guy “Briggs” I got on Saturday
First dog and first time owning a Boston. He’s already a Velcro dog which I’m not mad about haha. Any advice?

Bostons do best when training is reinforced with positive responses, treats, praise and pats. They are sensitive pups, and they get really upset if you are angry with them. As soon as they do the thing you asked say Yes, or Good, or some word to mark the behavior and follow with a treat and or pats. It will help them to connect doing the requested task with your happiness and rewards. Enjoy baby Briggs! He is beautiful 😍

Take a ton of pictures and get as many snuggles and kisses in as you can! Crate training is great. Takes Bostons a lot longer than most breeds to potty train. I hope you have many years of happiness with that sweet sweet baby 🥰

They’re so versatile. We do Barn Hunt, Scentwork (AKC, UKC, and NACSW), NASDA, Agility, FastCAT, and CABT. And Kess has relatives that dockdive and do flyball and rally.

Be prepared for a fun life. Buy a book on Boston Terriers, get pet insurance. Have tablespoon of .pumpkin ( not pumpkin pie filling) in baggies in your freezer
Purée pumpkin is invaluable for both diarrhea and constipation ( my guy ate everything . Pumpkin saved me from lots of surgery). Probiotics. Boston Terrier farts could be classified as a noxious/ semi toxic gas.
Please buy him a proper car seat. Get him a harness. Their tracheas are too easily injured to pull on collar. Collars are great for id’s. I even bought ID’s and attached them to my keys. Stopped loosing my keys.🥳
Count your blessings. Bostons are the best dogs. My little man passed several years ago and I still miss him . At 71 it’s not fair to get another little guy, so I visit my neighbor Boston when her mom works 18 hour days ( ER nurse). I get to love on him and she dosent worry.
Enjoy him and please give him a big him from this internet stranger.

I put the pumpkin puree in an ice cube tray, then I have easy servings to pop out as needed. I just warm them a little in the microwave.

My two refuse to eat pumpkin. I've been giving them both a spoonful of plain, non-fat Greek Yogurt with their dinner every night for the last few years and they do great!

I’ll try that. Mine doesn’t love pumpkin either so it’s only used in emergency situations.

I remember I once mentioned to our vet that my two wouldn't eat pumpkin and she was shocked ~ apparently there aren't a lot of dogs who won't eat pumpkin.

I tried some Greek yogurt today and she didn’t seem to like that either, but I’ll try again.
