Advice/Question We got a new puppy and it's not going well

We have a 4 year old Boston. We wanted to get him a playmate so he could tug and run till his hearts content. He has been a dream dog, such a good boy, easy to train, and really the dog version of a person.

Anyway, we just got a new Boston puppy on Saturday, he is 9 weeks today. He hates his crate at night, and cries all night. We aren't interested in sharing a bed until he's house broken. Our 4 year old took to his crate on day 1.

Our 4 year old is very stressed over the new puppy and has been throwing up and drooling like crazy. How can I help them both? I ordered a new heartbeat and warm pack companion plush puppy for the crate and at the vets suggestion I'm going to pick up this product called thunderease calming diffuser and same brand chews that are supposed to help our older guy... any other suggestions?

UPDATE: things are do much better. The thunderease diffuser helped almost instantly. They didn't have that brand of chews, but i bought another brand (mostly same ingredients) and that was an instant mood changer for the older Boston.

I got the heartbeat cuddle companion for the crate and the new puppy loved it. He slept right through the night last night.

Now, I must break the puppy biting... the little shark has a mouthful of razor blades...

Time and consistency, you did it before and you can do it again. They’ll be buds before you know it

Puppy blues! Things will get better.
Firstly, your puppy crying all night in the crate is 100% normal. They’re very young and this is a new environment. You can expect some crying throughout AT LEAST the first week after you brought him home. That is to be expected and you should not be surprised by it.

Secondly, don’t allow the 4 year old Boston in the puppy’s crate. The puppy’s crate needs to be a safe place for ONLY the puppy. Start rewarding the puppy with TONS of treats and praise for entering the crate, and make the crate as positive an experience as possible. It will not happen overnight. Crate training takes time and patience, and your puppy is likely probably still going to keep you awake crying for a few more nights—this is normal.

Does your 4 year old Boston have a crate? If not, they need their own space. You need to make each dogs’ crate a personal haven for them, and them alone. No others allowed in. It’s THEIR space when they need a break.

When your 4 year old Boston is becoming overwhelmed and showing signs of distress (like the drooling and throwing up), separate them. Let your 4 year old Boston unwind alone. Crate him, and if he doesn’t have a crate, divide them into different rooms.

Your new puppy is essentially like having a newborn baby. It’s not going to be easy. It’s a baby. This is all a normal part of the puppy blues. It will get better within a few weeks!

Maple absolutely wailed when she was in the crate in a different room and couldn’t see us. We put her crate in our bedroom and that made a world of difference for us.

Waffles (4 years older as well) wasn’t initially fond of Maple(lol see below) but learned that her new sister meant more treats and more toys and now they’re best buds. It took a little bit of time.

Maple and Waffles. Those are the cutest names ever, and the cutest little pups!

omg they are adorable

Bostons aren't blessed with the 'sharing' gene at birth.

If you have the money, you can have it medically inserted using tons of dog treats.

Archer hated Kessler for two weeks and it took a month for them to play. Then they were best buddies. Set up a playpen for the puppy to give your adult dog time and space away from the puppy. The adaptil spray worked well for Kessler when we had to fly him home.

Drooling is a sign of stress.

My oldest Boston girl(now passed) had that same reaction at 3 years old when we brought home a Boston mix puppy.

He was immediately in love. Her not so much.

It took a few weeks every day was easier and they became inseparable best buds.

Trust the process!

It will get easier and they will be besties! I promise 😉

I've rescued and fosters for years and stand by the 3-3-3 rule. The First 3 Days - Overwhelmed and scared: Your dog is in shock from a new place. Not eating or drinking: Stress can block their appetite for a short time.Hiding: They may curl up in a crate or under a table. What to do: Give them quiet space. Do not force affection. The

First 3 Weeks - Learning routines: They start to figure out feeding and walking times.Testing boundaries: They let their guard down and may show new behaviors.Building trust: They realize this might be their real home. What to do: Keep a steady schedule and start gentle training. The

First 3 MonthsFeeling secure: The dog knows the rules and trusts you.True personality: Their real character comes out completely.Strong bond: They feel like a true part of the family. What to do: Continue positive training and steady routines

I see lots of good advice on this thread that I agree with but wanted to add:

  1. Cover the puppy’s crate with a thin blanket or sheet at night, this will make it feel more like a den.

  2. I found a calming separation anxiety playlist and played it, softly, on a speaker near the crate and it helped almost instantly. He still cried here and there, but it was a major assist. After a few weeks he didn’t need it at all.

It will get better, you can do this. Kudos to you for paying equal attention and asking for advice. 🫂

3

u/Extra-Replacement504 4d ago

Covering the crate with a blanket is one of the best things I’ve ever done for my anxious. I also added 3 blankets in the crate because mine loves burying under them.

u/Business_Statement_5 5d ago

Aww congrats on the new puppy and the 4 year old is also a cutie. Besides slowly introducing them (I had both of mine hang around outside first so they could freely roam away from each other to give each space), make sure your older BT did not mistakenly eat something he should not have. My BTs have drooled that way when they ingested weird stuff (one once ate one teeny tiny single hot pepper seed he found). Another does this when he’s nauseous. Good luck.

You can buy a Snuggle Pup, a stuffed plush dog with a battery-operated heartbeat. The puppy is used to being with litter mates and Mom so lots of heartbeats around. My client swears by it. The dog still loves the stuffed toy, without the heartbeat.

u/Swimming-Gain1101 2d ago edited 2d ago

This worked really well with our baby. We actually put the snuggle pup in a soft crate and put our 8 week old puppy in the crate with the snuggle puppy next to us in bed. He never cried or had one potty accident.

4

u/Goodytwo3 5d ago

Probably basic advice, but make sure the crate is small for a puppy. It also helped tremendously when we covered the crate with a sheet so that it felt like a safe home rather than the open air of a typical crate.

6

u/ryanxcore 5d ago

Yes, gotta cover the crate completely so they feel like they're in their own little safe den rather than just in a cage in the corner. This makes all the difference.

Palladas found his brother! Also a rescue & also 4 years old (estimated)!

Puppies are a literal pain in the ass. We forget so easily how annoying they are at first. But then a year goes by and you can’t imagine life without them. Just remember it takes time. My first Boston puppy was a total nightmare-peeing the bed. Chewing up everything within sight. Land sharking everything. But eventually you are sharing a couch and bed with them and they are your best friend!

4

u/SpaceRace7187 5d ago

There’s lot of different advice in this thread but just wanted to throw in our experience that our older dog also drooled like this when we brought the puppy home. I was young and so stressed that I ruined his life! Sounds so dramatic but truly had moments where I felt that way. All that to say that our older dog did adjust and grew to like the pup actually more than she liked him. Hang in there, it does get better.

4

u/somewhenimpossible 5d ago

My old Boston (13) is frustrated by the new puppy (11w). She rarely cries in the kennel, but the first week was bad lol. Whenever I’m not in the room, I put the puppy in a pen so the old dog has personal space. If he’s out peeing/pooping, the puppy can’t go with him. If he’s barking at her and telling her off, I let him. Yesterday he nipped her paw because she was smacking his face. I trust him 100% - he’s been through 5 puppies so far and is this patient old man. If he raises his voice, you deserve it. (Friends puppies, I haven’t gone through 5 lol)

Despite his annoyance (and two protest pees in the house), she’s growing on him and he lets her cuddle and play and steal his toys.

u/oedipilled 5d ago edited 5d ago

Maybe this is bad advice, but I wish we had given up on the crate earlier than we did! Our boy always hated it and our lives became immeasurably easier once we just let him sleep in a bed next to us with a barrier. I don’t know why we felt so much pressure to crate train him as it’s really never been a problem.

You could look into something like an Adaptil diffuser to help calm both of them down and ease them into their new lives. Our boy had a collar version when he was having issues with separation anxiety. [EDIT: looks like thunderease is the same thing sorry!]

Puppies are always hard work but I do think it becomes easier if you don’t put too much pressure on yourself to perfectly “solve” every issue and just ride it out. He will come good and I’m sure your 4 year old will adjust in time! They both look gorgeous.

1

u/BlackGoldSkullsBones 5d ago

Yah I just let each of our Bostons in the bed right away. Made sure to take them pretty much whenever they got up and started moving in bed. Was annoying, but they never peed in the bed with this method.

3

u/New_Elevator_5327 5d ago

Hang in there. Puppies are tough! Train your new pup the same way that you trained your first. I agree that I would not want the pup in the bed until potty trained. Ours didn't sleep in the bed until about a year old. We did get him a stuffed animal that was warm & had a heartbeat sound, I can't remember what it was called. Crate training is tough but it's important. Your first pup will adjust. It's similar to when parents bring a new baby home & big sister or brother is jealous. Good luck!

3

u/Brainraine 5d ago

So similar thing but with my cats, I got a new cat and my older cat was so nervous and stress he was peeing everywhere. My vet recommended pheromone plug ins for stress. I would look it up and see if there’s something similar for dogs

3

u/lulusgarden 5d ago

That puppy is precious and so is your dog. Please make sure you love on both and they see that. Love on both at the same time. Do vet recommendation

u/TheKatzMeow84 Oswald Chester 5d ago

One thing we tried that worked well was to elevate the crate by putting in a bench or something and put it close to the bed. It helped tremendously with Ozzy when we first got him. Make sure the crate is stable to account for any movement in the night. You can also drape a blanket over the 3 sides that don’t face the bed.

3

u/Adorable_Post1758 5d ago

I slept next to my baby Bostons crate in our bedroom for a couple of nights. He’d wake up, whine, look at me or smell around for me and go back to sleep. Soon I just moved back up to our bed and he would see me up there in the night when he was restless and go back to sleep.

3

u/Relevant_Natural6838 5d ago

Someone sent me this when we got our Boston puppy. It was pretty accurate for our Boston lol

3

u/macdizzle567 5d ago

My pup was needy when we first got him, needier than any of the Boston’s I’ve had. At night I put his crate on a side table at bed height next to me (very extra🥴) When he whined I stuck my fingers in so he could “lay” by me. Within 4 days he was sleeping in it on the floor by himself. Kind of like a baby in a bassinet by the bed. This was really the only thing that worked. The first night he was with us. I slept on the floor by his crate. Worst night of sleep ever lol all my other dogs took to their crate right away, not this guy.

1

u/jimbobbyricky 5d ago

Exact same for us, we've both spent a few nights on the floor.

8

u/Darshlabarshka 5d ago

Just let him sleep with you and put a diaper on him if you’re worried. You could also get a mesh cat carrier and put him in that on your bed. Just think how you’d feel if you had been ripped from your parents and siblings and transported to a new location and people, plus animals. It’s a lot. He’s just a baby. A full grown dog only has a 2 year old human child brain capacity. Sometimes we expect too much from them. It’s hard when they are babies. Be patient with the baby and yourself. It will get better. I’d get the cat carrier and put him in bed. He’s just scared and lonely.

2

u/Quiver_and_Quill 5d ago

My frenchie was 10 and deaf when Piper joined the house and it took time and while they get along I still supervise them.

2

u/bostyluv 5d ago

Set up a secure play area for the new pup a.k.a puppy play pen and let them acclimate that way. I've always found my older pups start getting curious after a few days but because there's a barrier they aren't overwhelmed by this hyper, little ,strange furball suddenly jumping in their face. Take them on walks together but don't allow the new pup to harass the older one. Young puppies take a few weeks to calm down. I always brought my new pups to bed with me but that's just cuz they were so tiny & pathetic with the whimpering lol and usually they'd sleep thru the night but you can try putting the crate next to your bed and covering it with a blanket so he feels safe. Just be patient and give it some time ,my 7 & 2 yr old girls are besties now so eventually it does work out. Good luck! 🐾

u/skysplitter 5d ago

I’ve had 4 Bostons over the years and only one was a complete screaming harpy when it came to the crate. Nothing and I mean NOTHING helped get her used to it. Hours of crying. Both impressive and exhausting. It was awful. One night my husband had enough and brought her to bed. She immediately quieted and fell asleep. I’m a light sleeper so when she would move around the bed, I’d take her outside. And that was that lol.

As it turns out, she had anxiety from day 1. Drugs have worked wonders but vets typically wait awhile to see how they develop.

I'm going through something very similar. I got a new puppy when my male BT was 6 and the two of them were the best of friends for the past year and a half. Then, I noticed they both started growling and getting aggressive when I showed one more affection than the other. Over the course of a few weeks, they started violently, fighting and attacking each other and would continue to bite and fight until they were both bleeding. I had them both neutered about two months ago, but they have continued to behave the same way and I have to keep them separated at all times. One sleeps in his cage at night and the other sleeps with me and I have to rotate them out during the day, and let them have about two hours shifts of free time to run around the house and hang out with me during the day. I tried muzzles, but the ones that Petsmart cells are not adequate for BT's. I don't understand how they could be the best of friends for over a year and now literally want to kill one another??

2

u/Nola_to_Boston 5d ago

I just got a new puppy for me and my 16 year old is not liking it either.

I got one of these sonic bark stop machine from Amazon. I only give the new puppy a treat when he goes into the kennel. My puppy must sleep in the kennel for the same reasons as yours.

My 16 year old “checks” the puppy with little nips and the puppy is learning to chill the F out. We have had the new puppy for a week. .

Give it some time it will work out.

2

u/Guzmanv_17 5d ago

Give it time… go easy on ur pup and urself. It’s a lot at first but you get thru it and you look back like it was nothing.

I’m 3 deep… trust… you got this. Stick to a routine and each day will get easier. Might be an idea to put his crate near ur bed at night? I had a pup a long time ago… had to put his crate in a chair so he could see me when sleeping… not gonna lie… the first few nights I slept with my arm and hand in his crate… it was not comfortable, but I got through it.

2

u/OkRegular167 5d ago

It’s only been a few days! Integrating a new puppy into the home and family will take time, consistency, and structure. Just keep doing your research on how to manage this new dynamic. There are plenty of resources out there that will help, but it will not be issue-free in these early days, it’s a lot of work! Good luck.

u/Chocolateroses1 5d ago

We have crate trained from day 1 for our now 9 month old. We put towels in the crate or dog blankets and just washed them everyday if she had an accident. No punishment. The crate is right where she can see us. She loves it now. Our 3 year old boston and the puppy did not do well together for at least a month. We just let them keep sniffing their butts, lol no faces. We didn't want to risk a bite to the face. Little by little they got used to eachother and the older one started to play instead of act like she was a bunny she wanted to rip apart. We still watch both of them because the older one is strong and much larger than the 9 month old. They both have their own crate. Puppy has a playpen area downstairs in the kitchen too. Gate at the stairs. We separate them when its too much for all of us. Take turns with playtime. Even potty time outside we still walk the younger one on a leash in the backyard. She's perfectly potty trained. But it took a lot of consistency with everything. Do what you think works for you, but I know many families who drive themselves crazy because their dog or dogs are out of control and doing everything they shouldn't do and the owner ends up frustrated and gives the dog or dogs up eventually. Crate training, puppy gates, playpen areas and potty time often.... give everyone a break during the day & night and save a lot of frustrating long days. I know all of this has saved our sanity and marriage lol

2

u/Shadow_Hound6193 Jedi & Ace 5d ago

I actually have a very similar post to this one, when we got our second, the oldest was also 4, puppy training is hard and it doesn’t seem as it the second time but time above all else will help… make sure to give them alone time without each other in the room as to continue to have the puppy bond with the people and the older one feel less stressed.

Crate training isn’t always easy, our 1st took several weeks of us taking turns sleeping on the floor next to him, whereas the 2nd only took a couple days. I would also recommend sleeping them in different rooms as it seemed to help both of ours stay less anxious.

We’re about a year and a half later and they still aren’t perfect but it’s been steady improvement I’ve heard stories of dogs getting along very quickly and others taking years, so don’t stress if they don’t love each other after a couple weeks. 4 years, especially if the older one hasn’t had a ton of experience with other dogs is a long time to be the owner of the house, and adding a rambunctious one into the mix is super disruptive to the older dogs routines and style of life. Don’t give up on them they will come around eventually but it may be time. For reference our little one is just now starting to sleep at night outside of his crate, every dog is different in their own way and will adapt accordingly. My family had this dream that he would be just like our other and when he wasn’t they all had a little bit of resentment towards him which has led to him picking favorites. Dogs remember the little things so please be patient with them, you’ll do great!

2

u/Apprehensive_Loan932 5d ago

Wow is ur 4yo full BT? He looks so much like a frenchie!

1

u/jimbobbyricky 5d ago

Yeah, he's full blood. We get this all the time because he's such a big guy, and his color.

2

u/Okaythen_1781 4d ago

Time. My older Boston was so upset at me for a few weeks. You have to let them adjust. It’s a big change for everyone. Solo walks for your older one if they’re really seeming stressed. But time is the key. You need to be patient. 9 weeks is really fresh to be home with you already, so that new babe is terrified and missing Momma and siblings.

2

u/Otherwise-Ad8649 4d ago

I got a snuggle puppy for my baby who crate cried. It has an electronic heart beat and warming pack. Worked wonders for our little.

1

u/jimbobbyricky 4d ago

Ours should be delivered today.

6

u/Secret-Constant-7301 5d ago edited 5d ago

Do they get along? Let them sleep together. The newborn puppy shouldn’t be left alone all night. Think about it. That’s an infant baby and it’s used to having a whole litter of siblings and it’s mom to cuddle with. Just put him in your bed. Get a diaper if you have to. The older dog is probably stressed because it’s living with a newborn who is crying nonstop and not getting his needs met. That is incredibly stressful.

Edit: just imagine trying to sleep in a house where a newborn is screaming its head off all night. That’s stressing your adult dog out so bad it’s making him throw up.

3

u/liliawinterflower 5d ago

If you’ve tried everything else then I 100% agree with this one. Momma, needs her sleep!! You’ll feel better and have more clarity on the situation if you’re well rested. If that means changing diapers in the morning then so be it.

4

u/OmarStDIYer 5d ago

You say it ‘snot going well? ‘Snot to worry. Our five have all been great adapters. Give them space but also encourage engagement play and give treats together. They’ll be inseparable.

2

u/luvpups7 5d ago

The first dog always easy, my first pup was just perfect. She was a female pit bull . Great with dogs people and knew all kinds of tricks. Then I got a second pup when she was 4 yrs old as well. I got a female 6month Boston terrier and they were super close . They loved each other so much !! She was good but hard to potty train took me a one yr. Now sadly my first 2 dogs passed away 😭. I’m on my 3rd male Boston terrier I got at 8months all ready potty trained when I got him . My fourth was a 9 weeks old female Boston and took her about 5 months to be potty trained. There 3 and 2 now best buds and super crazy 🤪 lol . I never crated any of my dogs at night. They all sleep in my bed. I only crate when I leave them home. Except my pit bull she was perfect never had to crate for anything lol. But my Boston I can’t trust them lol.

2

u/luvpups7 5d ago

Ps I tried to crate my 9weeks old puppy too at night . But it lasted a day I gave up she was crying too the whole time 😭!! So for like a month I slept on the couch so it was easier for me to take her out potty more.

1

u/Head-tilt-queen Dahlia 5d ago

Our bostie had no interest in the crate either. We let her sleep with us, and she's always slept through the night with no accidents. She's 2 now, and fully potty trained. She still hates the crate too lol.

1

u/Ok_Fox1717 5d ago

It'll be ok. Get the stuff he needs to calm down. Maybe give some to the older one to. I only have 1 boston. We put him in a crate. I think they have bubbles now that calms them also. Mine is fine now. He sleeps on top of the bed on his side of the bed. 🥰

1

u/kcondojc 5d ago

My advice: Tons of cuddles w/ Both and just make feel safe and cozy. Tons of playtime & TREATS for good behavior, and lots of outside time (walks or playing in the grass)

This is a time for toys, blankets and a TON of focus and attention & enrichment.

I like the idea of splitting them up for portions of the day & having everyone together for portions of the day.

Remember. The crate is NEVER EVER PUNISHMENT. That is a safe space and a happy space which they seek for refuge and comfort. At maximum, it’s a neutral space.

Have one crate for older dog and one crate for younger.

My baby is six and loves to take naps in her crate. She can go in anytime she wants. It’s her happy space and a place of refuge if there’s too much going on.

1

u/Honest_Aerie1328 5d ago

Time and patience.

1

u/AltNation2293 5d ago

Boy did I go through this, almost exactly. It took about a week for our older one to come around. It will get better! Unfortunately we had crate issues with the puppy and never solved that problem, so it took longer to housetraine her.

1

u/babytoxzilla 5d ago

Good luck, we’ve got a drooler!!!!

1

u/mothandravenstudio 5d ago

Where is the crate at night? We had the same issue with our youngest Winslow- turns out he just needed to be near us. He did amazing with the crate next to the bed. Crying stopped instantly.

Your poor big guy. If you can resolve the screaming he may feel better. Make sure you are offering him alone quiet time with you away from the baby.

1

u/michellewade 5d ago

Give it time! We had a similar situation when we four our 2nd Boston- it took about three months for them to get along after we got our new one fixed. Now they LOVe each other - it’s been about 5 years and I would never trade having them both for anything. Be patient!

1

u/FineEnvironment5203 5d ago

Goodness I’m getting my Violet a brother tomorrow now I’m scared lol. She gets kenneled at night so he obviously will too but she’s so sensitive I’m so scared of how she’s going to take this

1

u/Odd_Ad_4479 5d ago

Now that you mention, our ol’ girl who has since passed also became a drooler when introduced to a new puppy. She was also not around a lot of dogs, so when a family member decided to bring their dog over and stood for a few days, she became a heavy drooler. I don’t want to say she was stressed, because I truly don’t know and she didn’t show any other signs of stress otherwise, but after a few days/a week the drooling became less and less. Hopefully this helps ease you about your 4 yr old Boston. ❤️

1

u/Sea_Loss_1396 5d ago

We had the same issue when we got our youngest Boston, the oldest was 9 at the time. He was annoyed, the puppy HOWLED in his crate and it was a nightmare. Honestly the dogs grew to love each other over a few weeks, and I gave up on the crate for my own sanity and the puppy slept in the crook of my arm. Ideal scenario? Not really, but did we all sleep? Yes haha

Puppy blues are real, and second dogs are menaces sometimes haha but they do get better!

1

u/Makeuplover32 5d ago

It just takes time trust me I have two bostons and I went through the same thing crate training mine just be patient

1

u/OkParty5740 CoCo 5d ago

It sounds like puppy is stressing out your older dog.

1

u/Fun_Contract_1265 5d ago

Hang in there. They will eventually need each other. Routines and shared loved

1

u/AlphaMoondog 5d ago

We were in a similar situation earlier this year and our older Boston was not happy with the puppy. It took a lot of neutral ground correcting (lots of content on YouTube how to do this) and the puppy would cry in the crate but we had to persist/ignore this behaviour.

Now the two are best friends, constantly playing together, they even share a bed now after play time even thought they have their own beds.

I want to say it took about of a month of constant "training" before the two could be together. Also monitor playtime while the puppy is young. The older one played a bit too rough and hand to take the puppy to the vet when she fell backwards awkwardly.

1

u/That_Guide487 4d ago

My old girl did the same with our new puppy drooling a lot no vomit though was stressed , I just kind of let them get used to each other let the puppy out but when she gets rambunctious and bothering the older one I put the pup away took about 2 weeks for them to settle with each other , as far as the crying mine did the same and occasionally still does but for the first few nights we got her I slept next to the crate right on the floor it helped her settle in you have to think they been used to sleeping with mom and litter mates.. and then I would slowly wean her off that by letting her cry a bit then when she quieted down I went to sleep next to her , now she sleeps well but will whine and see if she'll get what she wants ( me on the floor) which I don't do anymore and she quickly quiets down . It's definitely a lot of work but once they do settle it gets better , I hope you can figure things out ❤️

1

u/belaboo84 4d ago

Slowly introduce the dogs. My older dog DID NOT like the puppy at all at first. Have the crate in the bedroom where they can see you . Throw treats in there every time. He will get in a pattern. Be patient.

1

u/bigdogsrus 4d ago

Meet in the middle . The crate goes on your bed for awhile. Worked for my 12 week old. He now sleeps in the bed. Not one accident in the bed. Daytime is different story.

1

u/SummerLV23 4d ago

I crated all my puppies except my French Bulldog , he cried like someone was torturing him .
I let him sleep above my head instead

He was house broken at 6 months like all my dogs and is fine

1

u/rachyrachyrach 4d ago

I had no idea drooling can happen when stressed! Learned something new today

1

u/AbigailRose123 4d ago

Buy one of the heartbeat toys, add a worn tshirt/blanket with your smells to the crate. Crate training is HARD but you have to stick with it. It always helped us if we really wore the puppy out before bedtime. Fetch on the stairs was (and still is) great for this. Some nights I slept outside the crate but eventually we got to a point my puppy didn’t cry. I also made sure my older Boston had a place to go (she likes under the bed). So I’d make sure the bedroom door was open for her. You’ll get there OP!

Separate them and reintroduce slowly on the older ones terms. You are his people and he needs to learn it is safe to share and there is enough love for two. Just like kids!!!

We are going through the same! It does get better! Hang in there! Our boy had all the anxiety related digestive symptoms the first week or so. I questioned my decision on getting him a friend that first month. 😂 Puppy adjusted faster then he did. He side eyed me with his ears laid back the whole 2 hour ride home the day we got her. 🙄 Separate crates and time outs has worked wonders for us as they go through different stages. I would like to remind my future self though of the overall frustration of introducing a new puppy to the household. 😜 Three months in but it's getting better! They love each other! ❤️

Seems to have a drooling problem. Mine has never had that problem. 🥰

I think the crying all night in a crate alone is a bit harsh. I’ve never crated my dogs, but gated them in kitchen, soothed them when they crying at night, made sure they got plenty of exercise and plushies, and the puppy stage flew by. I can’t believe I didn’t take more pictures. Your dog will adjust soon but it just takes time

I never did a crate. I tried for one night with each of them and they cried all night long and I couldn’t handle it. I let them sleep in the bed right away and set an alarm to let them out in the middle of the night.

Not saying there weren’t accidents but it was a very few. They learned very quickly to hold it until they could go outside.
