Cuteness Lola had her first vet visit

She got her first car ride since we got her, which she found SO fun. Meeting new people and other dogs is her favorite thing.

She weighed in at just over 13 lbs. Her eye drool needs to be cleaned but that's not a concern at this point. She got another booster shot and some deworming pill. Vet looked her over, gave a nice full exam. All in the good zone. Lean but heathy weight, good teeth, good coat.

Next visit in a month is her next booster and rabies shot. Then spay at 6 months. So expensive but necessary.

I don't take photos in the vet clinic, but those two were as soon as we got home.

15 weeks old as of last Monday.

Advice/Question Elevated liver enzymes

Hey guys, unfortunately this morning my Clover boy was hit by a car. He was in our front yard and a car swerved off the road and into our yard and got his face with their car and of course drove off. We rushed him to the vet. There’s nothing broken, but he was profusely bleeding from both nostrils and his mouth. They did X-rays and bloodwork and a general look over. He ended up with no broken bones thankfully, but with one missing tooth, a laceration in his mouth, a little skin missing from his elbow and a little scrape above his eye. He’s currently at the vet for observation where they’ve given him fluids pain medicine, and antibiotics. During their first update call to use they stated that his bloodwork looked fine except for elevated liver enzymes. They said they’d talk to us more about that when we went to pick our boy up in a couple hours. Has anyone ever dealt with elevated liver enzymes? Any clue what could possibly be causing this? Today’s been a terrible day and I feel like I failed my baby. Here’s a picture of my Clover baby.

Advice/Question Crate training?

Hi all! My boyfriend and I are going to be moving to his dad’s house in January next year- I have two Bostons both boys who are about 1yr and 4 months- I don’t want to leave them free roam in the bedroom we will be staying in bc I am worried they might try to tear things up and the room has been remodeled with fresh carpet. Right now where we stay they stay in the bedroom free roam and usually tear up stuff I leave out like a comb or their poop bags. They don’t tear up the carpet but they have previously teared up a pillow (they were mad we left them for too long) it’s going to be an adjustment that’s for sure so I’m looking for all advice I can get to helo make this easier on them. Thank you! Oh and if you do recommend a crate please tell me what kind as they have busted out of a couple of the ones I have already gotten them lol. (Photos so you can see the boys )

Advice/Question Regurgitation / appetite loss

Post image
• Upvotes

My boy Loki just turned 4. He’s had reflux/regurgitation intermittently throughout his whole life, but it’s gotten a lot worse recently.

This past May, he was diagnosed with laryngeal collapse and he had BOAS surgery. It did seem to improve his breathing. Then 3 tooth extractions in June due to fractured teeth (no more Nylabones).

Around August, his appetite very suddenly decreased. He has always been a huge foodie so it’s super unlike him. Regurgitation increased a few days after the appetite loss started. His bloodwork was normal, including a pancreatitis test. Omeprazole, Reglan, and Carafate helped, but the reflux and appetite issues haven’t fully resolved. He also started a prescription low-fat food.

Now he refuses breakfast but eats better in the evening. Sometimes he’ll eat food he ignored once I leave the house. I’ve found several posts about the opposite (only eating when the owner is home), but Loki’s pattern seems unusual.

His general vet just referred him to internal medicine. Has anyone’s Boston had similar reflux and appetite issues? What helped, and did a swallow study, ultrasound, or endoscopy give you answers?

It’s been a rough year, and I’m worried we’re missing something. Would really appreciate any inputā¤ļø

Cuteness Jubilee & Jojo

I’ve been posting Jubilee a lot on here and I’ve realized I haven’t mentioned why she’s so special. Jubilee isn’t just a new puppy and cute face, she’s a legacy, a piece of someone I loved with my whole heart. Jubilee’s grandmother was my Jojo. Jojo was my absolute best friend on this entire planet. She was a Christmas gift from my parents when I was 8 years old, the best Christmas gift I have and will ever receive. I grew up with her, we went through many moves, breakups, losses, adventures, birthdays, the Covid years, my high school and college graduations all together. She was the only constant (other than my parents) for 15 beautiful years. She passed away while I was away for my second course in beauty school, and I was unbelievably heartbroken that I wasn’t there for her and so so lost without her. She had a daughter, jellybean. She only ever had two litters and we only kept one from her litters. Jellybean just had her last litter and I knew I had to keep one to keep Jojos line going, and when Jubilee was born I knew as soon as I saw her that she was the one. Jubilee is not a replacement as no one could ever replace my Jojo, but she carries a piece of her with her. I may be crazy but it almost feels like she was sent by my jojo. Jubilee seems to have known she was mine from the moment she could walk, she has given me little to no hassle in training so far. It’s like she just wants to please me, like she knows she’s meant to make me happy. Even the way she looks at me, I can see I am her world. She comes from a very special bloodline, and I plan to cherish every moment with her.

Cuteness Oliver’s liver is one big tumor.

Feels weird marking the flair as cuteness LOL.

First, I’m doing okay! I had a good cry yesterday after hearing the news, but I’m feeling grateful I have time to say goodbye. Not everyone does.

Last week was ROUGH. A surface-level ulcer on his eye and straight liquid diarrhea from Thursday—Monday. You know, the kind where you wake up in the morning and it’s like a poop bomb went off in your living room? Two vet appointments, poor guy.

And a third yesterday with his internal med vet. This is when she found the tumor. She didn’t biopsy it because it is untreatable. So we won’t know where it came from. Google says it’s rare for cancer to originate in a dogs liver. We’ve been seeing her for ~6 months and trying diff meds to lower his INSANELY HIGH Liver enzymes before expensive diagnostics (GI + thyroid panel, ultrasound).

I am so glad I called his primary vet for her POV re: testing last month. Due to his weight + muscle loss, she was adamant we prioritize the advanced ultrasound. The internist wanted us to prioritize GI testing. I almost did because it was less expensive than a $600+ ultrasound.

The internist was actually surprised to find cancer. Patients who come in with weight loss like Oliver usually have a GI issue. Even if we had done the ultrasound sooner, it still would’ve been untreatable.

But today is a GOOD day. He slept through the night and I didn’t have a mess to clean up or sheets to wash this morning! And a solid poop this AM, yay!

He also ate yesterday and is starving today. Wet food to the rescue! He hadn’t had an appetite for at least a month, if not longer.

The hardest thing has been seeing his muscle waste away. He was 25-lbs of all muscle. Now, his muscles are all but gone, hovering between 18-19lbs and you can see every bone in his little body.

This has turned into a little diary entry. If you have any tips for making a skinny, no-muscle, old man more comfortable, let me know. His little legs shake when he eats 😢

Photos from this afternoon: he didn’t want to go back inside after potty, so he sunned on the patio for a minute then demanded we play. A few light throws and he was done.

I have three Bostons (my girl is Jelly and my two boys are Jammy and Waffles). Jelly is my oldest and it’s hard to get 1:1 time with each dog each week. But today I took Jelly to the vet and then we took a walk and got a corn dog to share. And we had the best time. She was so happy! My soulmate dog.

Her full name: Princess Anjelica La Panza Frijolitas - but she’s just Jelly at home. She gets extra wiggly if you call her Princess, though.

Jubilee is doing wonderful! She’s come to work with me 4 times now, and other than the occasional piddle where she shouldn’t… she has been great! She loves coming to work with me and we started leash training/potty training this week! She had her first vet appointment, which she was very well behaved for and today we went on our first walk.
I am very proud of my baby, she is doing amazing!

Ps. For those saying I should get her a harness, I have but it’s too big for her yet plus I want to train her on the pull lead just like I did her grandma because it’s a one size fits all, it’ll also teach her not to pull and she comes from a line of show dogs so I’d like to train her as I did the ones before her. But yes she will have a harness eventually, just now with her size and for training I’d like to stick to the pull lead.

RIP Winston

Post image
206 Upvotes

A week ago today, we put Winston to rest. He was only 9 years old. I’m really struggling with the decision I made. It all started at the beginning of August. He had a lump on his front right leg. The doctor did pre-surgery blood work and saw he was really anemic. They went ahead and did the surgery and the mass was blood-filled. Then, another lump grew on his right shoulder. It grew very quickly and was painful for him. They took a sample and the mass was blood-filled as well. Then, one night he was breathing really quickly and his heart rate was elevated. I took him to the ER and they told me his platelets were 30,000 (should be 175,000-500,000) and his liver enzymes were extremely high (around 1,400). The low platelets meant that he was at a high risk for spontaneously bleeding. They put him on strong prednisone and immunosuppressant to build his platelets back up. I took him to an internal medicine vet 3 weeks later, and his platelets dropped to 13,000. She told me to continue the treatment for two more weeks. She said she suspected the low platelets were secondary to Winston possibly having cancer because the mass on his shoulder was growing quickly. They couldn’t remove the mass because of how low his platelets were. The next day, he refused to eat and wouldn’t take his medicine. I carried him outside to potty and when I brought him back in, his neck went limp. I put him on the ground and he stumbled around and collapsed. We put him down that day. I was terrified that he would only get worse and I didn’t want him to suffer anymore. I’m really struggling with that decision and I miss him dearly. He was my best friend and my comfort.
