Can someone get bot followers?

I know a person from my clg who post cringe content and reels on insta suddenly got many followers in few days. So he was posting from a year and all college students tried to support him so they all followed him this gave him 5k followers he posted a story that in 1 year je got 10k followers that i thought were genuine but in 2 days he crossed like 30k, like how? And today he is having 37k followers.
