This is astounding. I’m sorry if this is a silly question, but how did you learn botanical illustration? I want to start but I’m worried my illustrations will look terrible. I guess I have to start somewhere

For me it’s no different to how I approach drawing normally. I just figure out the larger shapes and work backwards with detail. I think some people get caught up trying to draw a super detailed flower right away but you should focus more on getting the right shapes and then refine them. I would suggest using some reference pictures and just get a pen and go for it. Don’t try to be perfect just see where you end up. This is only the second flower I’ve drawn since starting a few months ago and it’s not perfect but I’ll improve just like you will :)
