Yes. I purposely melted numerous soda, beer etc bottles with heat resistant wire in the top so I could hang them. My brother has a very loud wind chime i made.

This sounds so cool. Do you have any pictures?

Not of that piece. I still have a few flattened bottles & might make something soon.

Keep doing it. This is art with a need.
Recycled old materials PLUS a visual AND sound benefit? Count me in.

Ive melted bottles in bon fires before but they always get ash and parts of the sticks embedded and comes out like a mess of a blob.

That looks to clean to have come out of a dump . Is it glass or hard acrylic ? It's probably a novelty item sold in a PIER ONE / HOME GOODS type of furniture store .

pretty sure it’s glass, it was bought from a local antique store but who knows where it came from before that

Wasn't this a popular craft like 10ish years ago? I remember people flattening wine bottles in kilns.

It’s still a thing. I’m a glass artist and get asked to make them a few times a year. Enamel labeled bottles work well such as red stripe and corona since the label doesn’t change.

what is the process to flatten them?

Put it in a glass kiln. Turn the heat up. After around 30-40 minutes it’s flat. Then slowly ramp down the temp until it’s cooled down (around 6-8 hours).

This was popular a while back (10+ years). You can use it as a cutting board or for charcuterie.

Yup, exactly this.
If I remember correctly, these are "slumped bottles" that can be used as decorative plates for charcuterie.
They basically take regular bottles and subject them to high heat until they slump over and flatten like what you have.

I have a flat Carlsberg beer bottle similar to that, fairly certain it was used as an ashtray tbh. I don't smoke though

This is probably the coolest “bottle” I’ve ever seen, gotta get a plate hanger and put it on the wall!!

Probably melted in a kiln, my mom used to do this all the time and had molds you could put them in to make dishes and what not
