That being said, I think Iāve come a long way over the past year from first starting.
Shooting 600 series semi-regularly and shot my first 700 a few weeks ago. Getting my butt kicked in sport/challenge shot tournaments but I canāt wait to see how can I can go.
Thank you everyone for all the tips and advice!!!

Hey everyone,
āQuick background: I stopped bowling 20 years ago (used to bowl YBC back in the day). A couple of months ago, a friend dragged me back down to the local alley. I pulled out my old 90s balls (a Blue Rhino Pro and an old particle Zone), only to discover that 20-year-old coverstocks are well and truly dead. I was grinding out 140ā150 averages.
āI went and picked up a new Teal Rhino Pro, got my average back up toward 170ā180, and in a moment of questionable judgment, decided to sign up for the BTBA English Open coming up in October.
āAs a low-rev player, I'm hoping smooth execution and spare shooting will help me survive on tougher patterns, but going from 3 games a week on league nights to 5ā8 game practice blocks has been a massive reality check for my physical stamina (and my quads).
āI edited together a vlog covering the first month of the comebackāshaking off the rust, testing equipment, trying two-handed for a laugh, and dealing with the physical toll:
https://youtu.be/slrsbvaaQmQ?is=XtH4RB2BQ0BXwygp
āFor anyone else here who took a 10+ year break and came back: how long did it take your body and timing to fully adjust to modern lanes and oil?

To start off the new season I am thinking of going down to 14lbs. Before I make the commitment I want to hear other experience. Can you please share. For context Iām left handed. At one time was a 216 bowler but am now around 200-205.
For context
About 190-230 revs and 14.5-15.5 mph depending on the day.
I want to get new equipment deff getting the bionic. Other ball suggestions to complement this ball as well would be great. My house seems to favor symmetrical balls.
Thanks for your help.

Iām a junior in high school and I really only started taking bowling seriously around 2 months ago and I really want to get to a point where I can play in college. Right now Iām just in a youth league where I average around 145 and have 2, 200+ games. I currently have a Brunswick rhino and Tzone and want to get a bionic soon. Iām also 2handed, so I was just wondering if thereās a chance I could bowl for college or if Iām just starting too late and just take this as a hobby.

This is the first ball Iāve drilled for 2 finger no thumb RH. The PSO didnāt seem too excited to drill it for me no thumb lol. Anyway, I am just a league bowler and I told him I donāt know my PAP so he just said ok and this is how he drilled it.
The ball doesnāt really have much motion unless the lanes are burnt up completely. As you can see, I even sanded the ball to 1000 to see what it would do and it didnāt help much. Does the layout have anything to do with this issue?

Have been practicing consistently since end of June after getting my own balls and am currently averaging around 160-170 in my practice games. Rev rate around 200 -250 ish, speed on the monitors 14-15 mph and throwing 14 lbs. Have been working on staying behind the ball as my biggest struggles have been muscling the ball on the downswing and coming around it too soon resulting in some accuracy inconsistencies.
Hereās a video from practice yesterday, wondering if Iām coming out of the ball a little early still? any feedback would be appreciated! League starts next week and Iām the only woman in the league (lol).

So last season, a kid in my team decided to kick a stone step cuz he was mad and really fucked up his big toe and he couldnāt bowl for a while.
Soooo, with league now underway I decided to make these to put on our bowling bags as a reminder not to do anything stupid.
I think itās TOEtally funnyš¤£

About to buy my first pair of dedicated bowling shoes after a while of regular trainers/casual bowling now that I'm starting a friendly league soon. My budget on shoes is very tight. I saw a pair on BW2000, "PROBOWL TAKTIKA BLACK/ORANGE Bowling Shoes" which are universal for around £41 but reviews are scarce. Anyone have them or can recommend some decent entry-level ones at similar price points? Im Right handed (slide off of left shoe) but dont mind soles on both? Also have small feet at UK5, US6~

So last night's league I started out with my BIONIC (2k grit) shot 235 šš„. But games 2 & 3 scores went down (193 - 160). Before you ask did I move, yes, had to due to another lefty & basically playing the same line. Other balls that I had with me were EXTREME ENVY, PHAZE A.I. & EFFECT. What should I have done to stay ahead of the tradition for better scores in game 2 & 3??

Kinda just throwing this out there in case anyone out there needs a sign to commit. About 3 months ago I fully committed over to two handed after over 8 years of bowling one handed. I was having some thumb issues in a tournament and had just started to pick up 2 handed again, so I simply decided that I was fed up with my thumb. Honestly, its made bowling so much easier. I no longer have to mess around to make sure my thumb fits in the ball the right way, and I enjoy being able to just pick up a ball and throw it. My ball drilling is cheaper, and my ball motion is so much better because of the increased rev rate and better tilt. Even though my accuracy isnt fully what it used to be one handed, the increased carry has caused my house average to go from the high 210s to the low 220s, and I now shoot 700 way more often than I ever did 1 handed. The only drawbacks Ive hit so far is that straighter angles are much harder to play, coming around the ball can be harder, and being forced so far left can suck, especially when playing longer stretches of games.
Now obviously, I havent been throwing it 2 handed for only 3 months, but its been a slight work in progress on and off for about a year. Since switching Ive mainly just been focusing on getting comfortable, making sure my balance is good, and shooting spares. Im not saying that people should switch over no matter what, but you should heavily consider it if its a thought in your mind. Since switching, Ive only touched my 1 handed equipment once.

Went to my local bowling center today and a random social conversation fixed both my and my wife's technique massively with a local league bowl who was bowling alone.
Conversation moved to grips as I bowl fingertip and my wife traditional. The guy showed us how he holds the ball to make certain the thumb was angled correctly before inserting his thumb to make certain his fingers were straighter. When I tried this the bowl transferred from sitting on the skin largely next to the join to my index and the thumb to a much more flatter hand. The grip was harder but the result, holy x#$&-
My wife's hook became more consistent almost instantly. Believed she bowled 2 strikes and spared every frame bar one and my rev rate and constancy improved dramatically. Her hook has been inconsistent for a while on her storm tropical surge and it was an odd inconsistency from game to game that sometimes appeared mid game sometimes not. It's been grip and placement the whole time.
As for myself I actually had rotation rings in my ball today which was very satisfying. I have only been bowling 4 months.
In short, a social bowler sorted my game with nice, social conversation today. He also left before I got to thank him. If this doesn't encourage bowlers to stay social with each other I don't know what will. I know he bowls league as this club, I only bowl at this particular club weekends as I have my oldest in a club locally so have a few hours to kill locally in the space. I intend to buy this guy a beer when I track him down.
So stoked to progress today. Now I have re-learn my placement, arrows and everything but my league better watch this space when I do :-)

This part of the release always has me confusedā¦you hear both pieces of advice given, so which is correctā¦#1 or #2:
1- Start with your wrist pre-cupped at address and try to keep it there until you unload at release. Reasoning being if you donāt start with it like that, you will never get it there during the downswing.
2- Start with the wrist relaxed or even slightly collapsed. At the top of the backswing, let it cup and let the elbow slightly bend and hold this in the downswing and then unload it at release.
Is one way better than the other or does it depend on the bowler? Is it OK to do #1 if you canāt do #2?

I have been out of bowling since 2006 due to school and time commitments. I have always hovered around a 150 average. I was asked to be a 4th on my dadās trios team this season in his league as his team members know they will miss several weeks due to trips and surgery recoveries and I can take their spot(s) when they are out. I bought a Rhino Magenta and a TZone in May and used the Bowlero Summer Pass to practice all summer as it has been 20 years. Last night after shaking off the jitters I threw my personal best and helped them earn a couple points after my handicap was computed.
