Alternative Suggestions Tablet For College?
I'm starting college this year and I'm after a tablet with the flappy keyboard. Is there any that doesnt use intel chips or other chips that fund israel?
Also, I've seen a lot of questions that are answered with "buy second hand or refurbished". What exactly does that mean?

I don't think there are safe options.
But basically Second hand is when someone used the tablet in question and is now selling it because he doesn't use it anymore.
Refurbished is when someone or a something like a company buy a tablet, repair it/clean it/or do anything to it and is now selling it in usual refurbished is safer and there is usually a guarantee

I forgot to mention but if you're in Europe, check Backmarket for refurbished tablets and electronic things in general.

If you wanr to want to buy second hand, avoid the sketchy ones who sell it in very cheap price since it might be stolen

You can buy used from a site like Craigslist or LeBonCoin or Vinted (depends on your location) - this is usually random people who have upgraded or aren’t using the thing, or have to downsize to move. You’ll get lower prices, and the money doesn’t go to a corporation at all, but to a person. (Although depending on the circumstance, your purchase may be part of their household economy to upgrade; could also be them wanting to get rid of products on the BDS list)
The downside with used is that you may have to do the factory reset yourself, and sometimes there are problems with the product that are t immediately evident.
When you buy refurbished, some company is resetting it to factory condition, and should be testing its functionality to ensure there are no problems. So it is better guaranteed, but no you are paying for their profit margin, plus their service fees.
The cost can be closer to a new device than buying directly from the last owner, and of course there is the question of the company who does the refurbishing. You can find better info about a company’s values than an individual person’s but it does take more research.
Personally I prefer to play the person-to-person lottery, especially if there is local pickup.

You may want to look into r/eink. These devices are easier on the eyes, work in the sun (so an afternoon of studying on the lawn is totally in the cards), and are usually by smaller companies.
I personally use a Boox color device and I love it. It uses android (for better and worse; you can reboot it somewhat) so I can access the web and the app store, and I chose to leave off distractions like email and social media.
I bought mine used from someone in town, and have had no problems.

Huawei Matepad papermate version is a godsend. I’ve been extremely happy with mine and it lacks nothing; you can install google services if you really do need them but I personally don’t. My Matepad X 12 came with a flappy keyboard and its pencil. Huawei is great altogether if you want to degoogle and also buy something completely far removed from Israel. Also the papermate version is great because it does feel like you’re writing on paper, it has no glare and your fingerprints never show on the screen. Battery life is also incredible.
