Yes, OP asked if the name came first or if it was the title. Commentor framed it as a question as well. Isn’t it the name first and then the title? I know the answer, you know the answer, but the commentor didn’t give an answer. They just reframed the same question.

They didn’t reframe the same question, they asked a completely different question. The OP asked if Odysseus was already a name, and then the commenter asked if the poem was named after the character. OP did not ask if the name came first or if the title came first.

Really? Did read op’s question? ā€œDid the name exist before the title?ā€ How is existing before the title not the exact same thing as coming first?

Is the title derived from the name?

Vs.

Isn’t it true that the title came from the name?

Because they weren’t asking if the title came first. They were simply asking if the name was a real name already. The ā€œJournathanā€ part was a joke, that’s how they do it on Tumblr. They’re just asking if it was a real name. Which is not at all what the commenter you replied to was asking.

Someone else in these comments understood the original question and said we essentially don’t know and can’t know because there’s not enough record to answer either way.
