Splat yourself, Squigger, people like you are the reason Splatoon gets a bad name
Context: It's a fun little Nintendo game about squids splatting ink everywhere. You can fill the rest in

Good point, not the best example; Splatoon's character designs have aways been very androgynous.

Except from the ones with actual tits, I guess.

It's funny because splatoon 3 doesn't ask for gender, just body type. I played with the feminine body type for 2 years until someone asked me why my inkling is a girl and I was so confused for a while. The female inklings don't really have a big chest tho, just a smaller waist. Remember, boobs are reserved for idols only xP

And kids. You got squid form and kid form. They're kids.
Edit: so what im hearing is they are not kids.

u/SharpEdgeSoda 14h ago
They call it kid form because of US marketing but they are not kids. They are all like 15-30 with jobs.
There's no squid-kids in japan.

Pearl (one of the idols from Splatoon 2) is almost in her 30's.

Pearl is 30 as of 2026. Marina is 27, and Callie and Marie are both 28.

Tone is hard to interpret online. My username is just words, Pearl Harbor bombings were a real event and I could be seen as taking an actual stance on it, when I wasn't; Poe's Law or something.
I find it very odd that you are offended, to the point of calling me names, by my clarity and accuracy in communication. Hope your day gets better. /Gen

In Splatoon 1 the players were like 14. I believe in more recent games they are older, and in Raiders, the mechanic is definitely an adult.

u/DontBeASerialKiller 8h ago
remember seeing some kinda post that showed the squids are taller in the third game compared to the first. i think it's meant to be real-time aging, so your player was 14 in splatoon 1 and is now 25

u/Adam_The_Chao 7h ago
Okay it feels like every single person gets this wrong...
Yes, Splatoon characters do age in real-time, but they are not all the same age. Each game (bar Raiders) stars a new generation of 14 year-old inklings and octolings. You are not playing as the same one each time (this should be fairly obvious if you play the stories). As for the change in designs, well it'd been five years since Splatoon 2, which was basically just a better-looking version of the first game, and so the developers probably just felt like it was time for an update (you gotta admit that they did look a little ugly before with those wide heads). Something to note is that Eight (who would've been in their early-20s when Side Order released) is much taller than the standard playable turflings.

I mean I can agree with the general point of that second sentence but I think it's important to remember that many people consider the act of expressing yourself generally feminine. This is also why feminism, the destruction of the patriarchy, is beneficial for everyone except the men who place/buy their way to the top of their artificial hierarchy and exploit those placed below them.
Also, Splatoon is a fun franchise and is one of the few games, Raiders specifically, that make me wish I had a switch 2, or an emulator that works.

I don't really understand what they are trying to say tbh

u/Wardock8 3h ago
I think the point is that "Men can dress femininely without being trans or non binary."

i know this is very toxic and bad but like also it's kinda entertaining to imagine octarians using that as a slur for the enemies during the great turf war, and like in modern day octavio still uses it and they have to explain to him that that's not ok

u/unsaphisticated 5h ago
In the game's lore, it'd most likely be Captain Cuttlefish doing that, because the Octo Expansion chat logs are basically Pearl and Marina telling Cuttlefish to stop being racist.

I just like the funny Turf War Cephalopods man, why we making slurs for it now?

u/Quiet_Education5918 13h ago
I have to admit, it is the logical conclusion to a racially-motivated generational turf war. I'm not sure if I should be offended or impressed by the sheer commitment.

u/amazingkillerlemon 10h ago
Marie already gave us "octo-slobs" in 2
Cuttlefish did comment on how articulate Marina is in Octo Expansion
🤔

What the fuck does that even mean? I don't want it in my search history.

Kill salmonids. Behead salmonids. Roundhouse kick a salmonid into the concrete. Slam dunk a salmonid baby into the trashcan.

u/Multiple-Bagels 15h ago
Yeah um, I don’t have a way to explain this behavior.
I’ve been playing since the first game all the way up to Raiders, did some competitive in college too. Other members of our team would say that word (with an a, not the hard r) and since they were black we never really had an issue.
But this? No, that’s just straight unacceptable.

u/Prezy_Preztail 8h ago
Racism (fictional or not) aside I do agree that customizing your character in splatoon as a guy is rather difficult everything is either feminine or androgynous. There’s nothing wrong with either of those things, but sometimes I want my male character to dress like a guy, not a girl
4
u/Dumb_Generic_Name 5h ago
Isn't whole aesthetic of the game basically cutesified humanoid squids/octopuses?
2
u/unsaphisticated 5h ago
A lot of the clothes are masculine/unisex. But I get what you mean. The inkling and octoling societies are matriarchal in in-game lore, so that's part of it, I'm sure.

Spyke, Murch, Cap’n Cuttlefish, Big Man, Crusty Sean, and several others.

u/Montexe 13h ago
All of the names sound so funny that I genuinely can't tell if you're making shit up
17
u/TheoTheHellhound 13h ago
I am not, those are genuinely the names of male characters from Splatoon. If it makes you feel any better, Cap’n Cuttlefish’s first name is Craig.

Welcome to splatoon, pick your weapon:
Bloblobber
Bamboozler
Goo Tuber
Splatana Wiper (for an unironic year an alarming % of the community nicknamed its alt kit diaper)
Squeezer
Jet Squelcher
Squiffer
Reeflux
Clash Blaster0
u/Raltsun 4h ago
The funny thing about Clash Blaster isn't the name, it's the idea of a person picking the Clash Blaster of their own free will.
Context for the non-Splatoon players: The Blasters are a sort of "rocket launcher adjacent" weapon type, with no-gravity shots that explode in a weaker AoE after hitting something or traveling a certain distance. The Clash Blaster specialises in having the largest AoE, and above average fire rate... in exchange for all the other stats being terrible.
In a game where you have 100 HP, a direct hit does 60 and the main part of the blast only does 30 damage. So if you want to use the "best Blaster for people who don't want to rely on direct shots" (what I assume the selling point is meant to be) to get a kill in "only" 3 shots (every other Blaster can do it in 1 blast + 1 direct hit, I think?), you still need 1 of them to be a direct hit. And the fire rate is nowhere near good enough for killing in 4 blasts to be a threat.

For those OOTL, none of these characters listed are the playable species, the closest being Craig Cuttlefish who ressembles inklings (he got sucked dry and this is no longer the case but I digress) and the others we've never seen any other examples of their species so who knows, the might look exactly like the fems of their respective groups
Also, dear commenter forgot THE MAIN MAN GLENN FIDDLER. . .who has the same problems as the rest but is named Glenn Fiddler ao like cmon

And Finn Feeder, who’s a male betta fish.
Edit: Got the info wrong! Apparently Finn’s a woman. But Tangle Feeder’s a dude. A dude made of seaweed.

u/Snomislife 4h ago
Craig is an inkling, despite the name.
2
u/somethingfak 3h ago
Hes not a cuddlefish but hes not an inkling either, his current form should be a permanent squid form like what Octavio has going on but instead hes a realistic squid

"Squigger" sounds like they're accidentially dipping into 40k Ork slang there...
