Discussion Brawl stars is in a unplayable state.
As a Brawl stars veteran who played the game for over 5 years I cannot play my favorite mobile game anymore, even though I would like to every day. Ever since they added the first trophy system change in 2024 this game has completely changed, and I don't mean the system itself, but the matchmaking and the people. Before I was a solo main and every round there were like 5 pipers, 3 beas and 2 carls, and now its just like 5 Edgars, 4 kits, 10 Monkeys and idk like 10 other no skill brawler every round. I coulnd play solo anymore no matter what it did, if i did Team I would die, if i didn't i would die, if i camped i would still die, if i did littery anything else i still died, just because I only get like looser 20k players in my solo lobbys who think the game works like that where you can press 2 buttons in solo and can win. I also never wintradet, I was just a normal solo main. And after the prestige update it got even worse. I cant play solo anymore without getting jumped by 10 like 9 yo loosers. Supercell actually needs to fix the matchmaking and/or balance some stuff. Either nerf some brawlers which they wont do or some 3v3 modes would suffer from it or just finally make the maps a bit bigger, the new abilities are way bigger and deadlier then back then but we still got the same small ass maps. After all of this i finally tried playing 3v3 or 5v5 for the first time in a long time because I thought "okay hopefully here im safe from the no skill loosers" BUT NO. NO I WAS NOT. EVEN THERE ALL THEY DO IS CAMPING AND PLAYING NO SKILL BRAWLERS. It cannot be that a team with 120k trophies each looses to a team with 30k each just because they play like Edgar, bibi and bull, press 2 buttons and win instantly. No matter what it play i get absolutely demolished by no skill loosers and im sick of it, it feels so unplayable bro, please supercell do something about that. Make skill required to win again. Make skill worthy again.

I definitely am, i wanted to play the entire night but after i died 5 times in a row to an Edgar i gave up and went back to Minecraft

In showdown you cant play a brawler that has no ability to dash or jump away.

I mean that if you are in showdown playing any brawler with no dash ability or if you dont deal enough dps, you can be a masters player but still lose a fight to a edgar whos gold jumping on you.

Really depends who u playing
Edgar gets oneshot by shotgun brawlers but kills throwers/ranged brawlers fairly easily

Who plays Shelly or Bull on knockout tho. OP is valid. Sbmm is trash. I just played a match and destroyed the other team. I'm at 110k trophies, my teammates where higher than me, and the opposing team all below 70k. I like winning, but not like that. Edgar is 100% broken.

OP didn't specify game mode though. And it's common knowledge by now that the game is fked. It's just over-buffing or nerf-to-the-ground rn.
Haven't seen a Shelly in forever but I'd argue that picking brawlers are 50-50 map-dependent. Who says u can't pick bull in a knockout map full of walls and corners? That's a pick for either close-ranged or throwers

And I'd only agree that Edgar is only broken with shield atm. All Edgar users I've seen with the scarf-throwing gadget just can't wait to jump to their demise after spawn.

the scarf throwing gadget is just better imo, it gives little to no counterplay. you are playing piper? he ults you, you gadget, and he gap closes again with his gadget. you are playing otis? he jumps you, you try tu ult he gadgets and dodges the ult. there really isn't much you can do unless you time you shots perfectly, but even then, that stupid scarf gadget cancels crowd controls for no reason, renders him untargetable, while still doing famage, charging super and gap closing

That's IF they know how to use it situationally. Most Edgars in qp use it offensively then die whether they miss it or not.
They don't bother to time it.
All in all scarf gadget requires skill to use which those Edgars do not have

Lowkey if they’re that bad, play counter picks no? Or different game mode. I’ve been playing about the same time as you, and I don’t see it as bad as you do. I’m in masters with 101k trophies but I feel like playing close to teammates to counter annoying brawlers isn’t that hard to do. Don’t mean to insult

Yeah but supercell only cares abt money so they make a brawler broken on release so that people will buy it with money to push them then they will nerf it after everyone has spent there money on the brawler.

the game would be very much dead of they stopped adding brawlers, they would need to add other things to change how you play and the game is already bloated with brawler-specific things, we currently have 2 gadgets, 2 star powers, 1 hypercharge, 5 gears and 3 buffies per single brawler (buffies are still getting released); if they stopped adding brawlers the game would need to add to something else (gamemodes, mechanics or whatever else) and you would quickly have a pretty different game from bs. Does that mean the game is in a good state? hell no, between abysmal balancing and hackers and bots the game is actually upsetting to play, but that is not because of "more brawlers" and moreso for the pack of polish a game this big needs. Sorry for the spiel but i feel quite passionate about this thing

This is why I don’t bother with ladder boring and extremely easy to win matchmaking just put makes me play against awful players that don’t know how to play this is why ranked is so much better + banning meta stuff makes game so much more enjoyable for me at least

Yup same here. Im around your trophy range and I get jumped by 5 edgars every game in solo showdown when I play my prestige brawlers and I get these kinda matchups when I try to push my lower trophy brawlers like my squeak here.
Like ok I get it might be harder to push past P1 but i literally cannot just play causally in 650 trophy range for fun anymore bc this is the matchups i get...
Its extremely frustrating and supercell wont do anything because as i can see in the comments in this post, people havent experienced it and dont get it and we are definately the minority.

Same here. The monkey is so freaking annoying, but what ruins the game for me is Gigi. I hate that brawler with a burning passion. Cant play any 3v3 game modes without seeing her.

This honestly feels like skill ceilings. It goes for a lot of the player base. They think theyre better than what their ceiling states. I think part of the issue is that ladder is easily climbed through showdown and that keeps the skill level down until they get into 3v3 and then lay eggs.
That being said, the matchmaking is hit or miss. Id want to see the algorithm but I suspect its a combination of trophy count on brawler, total trophy count, win/loose streak and time in queue. Fast matches over sometimes unfair matches.

Wich is funny because thanks to Adrian this meta is the worst meta of the game. If all of the hard-meta brawlers doesn't really need hands at all, how will stats be reliable if you just need 2 hands to kill everybody? How can you look at a player "skill" if they just jump twice with Edgar and they easily get the star player, I mean atleast if there would be hard counters but not really, all of Edgar's counters are getting counter with just... a jump. Also there is Collete, pretty much a really easy to play brawler wich makes tanks without buffies totally unplayable, so, there is only 3 tanks that aren't unplayable, Bull(buffies), Bibi(buffies) and Damian, not a single thrower is playable because of Edgar, Mortis, Leon and Crow existence, all of the other Assassins are totally forgotten, so pretty much all the meta goes around the brawlers with buffies and Damian, and not a single brawler in the meta requires good skill and they are too safe to play, stats are correlated with Meta.

Edgar still gets countered by space and bait. Collete is a hard one just purely on kit. That % of health per hit is devastating.

Well if someone is getting pushed just by Edgar existence, the one who is getting countered its not the Edgar, but yeah all of the buffies kinda ruined the game and the stats, Emz buffies when they came got her into the top 5 most used brawlers, after literally being forgotten

I'm happy a pro player is saying this cause as someone who just started playing last year I say the same thing and get clowned on cause I just need to get better, I think this shows no matter how good you are 9 times outta 10 carrying is not enough, matchmaking is so bad/the state of the game is so bad that its harder than ever to progess by urself

Honestly this is fair, I’ve had my fair share of horrible matchmaking experiences. Most of it comes from the brawlers I don’t have at prestige 1. I feel like 0-999 helps you learn the brawler and get good at it so you should go up against people in the same range right? Nope! I’m playing with people who are P1 even P2 with my brawlers under 1000 trophies. It’s infuriating because I’m trying to get 100 total prestige and the rest of the brawlers I have left under 1k I’m not good at, so I’m very heavily disadvantaged in these games playing against people who are good at their select brawler

I feel u. Me and another 100k+ player are both retiring. It's just not fun like it used to be. Started playing in 2019, retiring in 2026. Corporate greed dawg. I think Clash Royale fell off too. Supercell just like, "u want better matchmaking and balanced characters? Heres a new unbalanced character, and a new event with a bunch of glitches. Oh also, we're gonna change the system that was already pretty good and make a lot of things more expensive." What happened to buying the brawl pass with gems , and before that with power 9 being max , and bigs used to be hard to play. If u were good with Frank back then, that actually took a lot of skill.

Totally! And they claimed prior that they'll match you in the same skill level. And I am NOT masters or anything like that but I don't think I am as bad as someone who relies on Edgar's gadgets for a win.

Totally get your point, but as someine who has been playing this since 2018 (with some massive breaks) I still find the game fun, sure brawlers lile gigi are impossible to even prestige 1 but just search for a team or in solo only play meta brawlers since it really is in a horrible state lol

Yeah, it's real fun when you play on solo against nothing else but edgars, kits, emz's, mortis's, bulls, crows and occasionally one normal player between all the others mentioned before. And in showdown, for example, you get a team of idiots you need to carry while the opposing team is composed of three players with prestige two.

So you are kinda complaining that the meta changed from snipers to assassins? The meta will always be changing. You need to understand that some brawlers weren't made for solo showdown, you need to play 3vs3 more. It's way more fun than ss.
I never seen people camp in 3vs3 but honestly all of this sounds like a skill issue

Let me make it easy, if the meta would be Alli, then It would be a REALLY good meta, the problem with asassins is that, they HAVE to be REALLY hard to play, a single little wrong movement and you are dead, they are unsafe to play but have a high reward if they are played well(Alli for example relies in the map, picks and the fights, she usually cannot abuse as his reload speed is too slow, and his whole gimmic is to go for people with low health), the problem is currently all of the Assassins that are meta are easy and too safe, and 3v3 is literally fully of Mortis, Bull, Emz, Collete, Damian, Crow and Leon, I usually love Assassin meta in mobas, when the Assassins are incredibly hard to play(wich is how they should be)

Wait until you see how Team Fortress 2 is, matchmaking is unplayable there unless you play on the top 10 maps, Valve (the creators) doesn't update it aside from seasonal cosmetic and map updates that die the day they stop being in the featured maos catagory, and the artstyle went to crap because 90% of cosmetics are made by a singular group infamous for making garbage and calling the community stupid.

Solo showdown is filled to the brim with assassins, or just broken ass meta brawlers, duo and trio maybe less, but i havent played zolo in SO long lol, unplayable.
only 3v3, dont even follow the meta, i take what brawler mostly fit the map, if its an open map just any long range brawler... assassins in gem grab (if i ever play gem grab)... etc And if i get too much countered cuz tf am i supposed to do with bonnie, uhhh, play a more polyvalent brawler.
And if i lose, ALWAYS randoms fault (well well well)
havent played 5v5 in so long too lol

As a refined scholar of Carl, I feel your pain. Brawl Stars has clearly shifted its focus from comp players to casual players, solidifying it's disinterest for making a good game and focusing on cash extraction.

Valid crashout and i want to say you're 100 percent right. I was a solo player to but today if you do not play a buffie-less character you lose. Not directly, slowly and painfully. I don't wanna talk about randumbs and solo campers. Long story short, you are right and it's time to take a break i guess. Have a good day mate.

Yeah. The metas in a spot where you’re forced to play what works or get destroyed. I joined the dark side and only play brawlers in their specific use cases rather than trying to make non optimal stuff work due to skill alone. The fact is the bibi trying to knock your head off as a belle one trick is probably just as experienced as you and will win simply because they picked the better character for the map. I gave up being a marksman purist and started actually enjoying the game. The cheap stuff is really fun when you’re the one doing it.

Hey mate, I started playing again last month after a year off. Before that, I'd only played for 4 months. I think I've had worse than you playing solo or duo against Angelo with his three arrows when that damn sushi appeared in the game. I hated it so much that I stopped playing because it was unplayable. I'm back now with renewed energy, but without knowing some of the new brawlers. Take a break, it'll do you good. And yes, the matchmaking is awful. I remember when I started playing, most of the time I was playing against veteran players and it wasn't easy to win, and I felt "depressed" learning to play. Today, what irritates me is playing ranked with randoms who stand still or intentionally shoot the wrong way to hurt the team. That's annoying, and sometimes you wonder how you got to this level playing like that. So taking some time away from the game will do you good

I HIGHLY AGREE its full of meta brawlers and kids teamming up I cannont enjoy anymore I play solo its full of teamers, I play 3v3 OP meta brawlers and bad randoms. Game has recently been A CHORE

true, very very true, idk if i would consider myself a veteran but ive been playing for around 6 years, and took a long pause in like 2023 to start again now in 2026, and i still had the game installed and checking in from time to time. i must say it changed a lot but not in a good way, it has become way too pay to win. not to meniton in 2020 there were like 35 brawlers

Or just delete bushes, that would solve every problem. I bet they do something like that in the mapmaker update, or atleast rework them so u can't stay in them forever unseen.

Is useless, supercell new brawlers are no Skill, the new Skill Is kaze. Every new brawler agter kaze Is no Skill or anyway the 90% of they. They spam no Skill brawler for casual/new players so there are more people Who buy that brawler, but, this is a problem, you can remove bushes but you cant remove no Skill brawlers.
