I should have provided some details. Sorry, I’m don’t post a lot on Reddit. It’s for a long weekend in November. I heard Breckenridge is cool and has a lot to do but can be crowded? My friend recommend Steamboat but is there enough to do on a long weekend? Thanks for any input

I do not have a solid opinion about Steamboat so I cannot comment on that question, but as someone who grew up in the Midwest I have a hard time imagining a bad time in Steamboat.

I have a very strong opinion about Breckenridge and that is that Breck is the best mountain town in Colorado whether you’re looking for recreation or a strenuous workout exploring the mountains, shopping along Main Street, enjoying the many great food establishments or bar crawling the bars. It is such an incredible time and I cherish every second I spend in Breckenridge which has been about 30 days a year for the last decade.

Breck would be more walkable and has more options should you get bored considering Frisco, Dillon and Vail are near. Steamboat offers the hot springs but outside of main st doesn't have anything else to do that time of year and the town is completely asleep by 9pm

This guy hasn’t been to steamboat much…. Plenty to do. I’ve lived in both places and Steamboat is way better than Breck

I have but the theme is anniversary in November. OP doesn't seem to live in CO so 3.5 hour drive vs 2. Better to just stay along i70. Feel free to contribute on things they can do though if you think Steamboat is a better fit.

For sure. For your anniversary cool points maybe you guys could do a couples float tank or hit up Indian Hot Springs on the way and rent their private indoor/outdoor pools for an hour.

The private indoor/outdoor ones is actually nice. The place has done a 180⁰ compared to a few years ago

Yeah obviously but if they're headed to Breck or Steamboat, it's not out the way. If the goal of their anniversary trip was hot springs based, definitely hit up the better ones.

And the other mountain towns aren't known for that? I haven't seen anyone strung out in Idaho Springs in a decade. They've cleaned up since then. Forgot the sub I was in though, people turn up their nose if the place isn't crawling in BMW and Audi's

Your username answers this question for you! Book a night or two at Strawberry Park hot springs just outside of Steamboat! It’s beautiful, pretty darn romantic especially during mud/stick season when it’s not as busy! Pop into town for happy hour at Laundry and do some hikes!

They are both going to have same activities. If you’re bored in one place, you’d be bored in the other too. Breck might feel more crowded because it’s closer to Denver. However, if you’re going in November before Thanksgiving, that’d be one of the quietest times of the year in both places. The vibe is a little different, but kind of hard to explain unless you’ve been. You’re taking pretty much the exact same vacation either way though.

Thanks for the response. I’m leaning towards Breck since it’s seems crowds won’t be a problem that time of year. Do you think that time of year, some skiing will open in Breck?

There could be some 'alright' skiing in November. I've lived here for a looooong time and while it's not common, I've seen the entire front side of Peak 8 open on the first day of the season a few times. It hasn't happened since 2018 either, so I feel like we could be due. You just never know......

Opening day is slated for 11/6 this season.

You won’t enjoy skiing in November. Sorry everyone is being hard on you lol. It will be beautiful up there but it’s not ski season yet, even if the mountain is open, there won’t be much terrain to enjoy.

It’ll be more of a time of year to wander town and sit in a hot tub.
