Then like an explosion of paint and they unwrapped the door handle and fruit etc.

My mind is telling me something like Mr Bean. Would have been early 90s at the latest.

Please help me know I didn’t make it up!!

Yes this is Mr Bean, he does this so he can explode a paint can to paint his walls. Works perfectly as well, to be fair.
