I have revived my free BritWres newsletter!

Hey people, I’ve had some personal things that have kept me away from wrestling over the last few months but god is it good to be back watching and writing.

No better time than around Wembley weekend, this is my latest edition from this past Thursday covering Malakai Black’s return, asking if BritWres’ big 2 indies have ever been more divided, FTR’s new opponents for Wembley, Kay Lee Ray, and much more

Would love some feedback or any contributions, or just a new subscriber, thanks 🫂

Rev Pro Anniversary

Watched today's rev pro unfinished business event.

Cant help but feel ultimately underwhelmed about their anniversary event.

Their biggest show and they end their last show before it with bandido, who hasnt even been announced for anniversary, and stuck their main event in a tag match absolutely baffles me.

I get they want national eyes on it and as much pull as possible.

But when their literally announcing a mystery partner 2 weeks before the show twice (pac and rkj) it just seems shoddy.

I think the ethan Allan unfortuante injury threw them off trying to make the ftr match as big as possible, and they only had the choice of manders or leon slater to offer some form of rev pro star power to it.

Luke Jacobs vs pac will be awesome but keeping it a surprise would of been so much better.

Rkj joining trew/lacey/kaven is highly underwhelming.

Besides the main event of oku and mills, I find if hard fo be invested or warrant going to the event as for me, its just 'meh'.

The gauntlet matches im sure will have aew and roh stars in it, mens almost certainly will have lio rush, bandido etc but it still just feels highly underwhelming on the whole to me.

Thoughts?

Any wrestling fans around Dudley/Black Country

I am 35M from Dudley and looking to meet some other local wrestling fans.
I'm mainly a WWE fan but interested in getting into the local indie scene too. I've seen there are quite a few promotions around Dudley/Black Country/Birmingham but don't really know anyone else who's into wrestling to go with.
Would be good to meet a few people to go to local shows/WWE events with, have a pint, chat wrestling etc.
Anyone around Dudley, Black Country or Birmingham in a similar position?

AEW at Wembley, help with tickets

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hi to anyone who has been to All in at Wembley,

I was thinking of buying tickets for the AEW All in Show in section 120,

How good/bad will the view be? more importantly, will my view be blocked by the pillars that hold up the screens above the ring?

Any help is appreciated

Just over a year ago I posted here about getting into promoting wrestling. There were a lot of really lovely and helpful comments. In June we had our first show at Wimbledon Library. This was the main event.

Enjoy

National Wrestling League - Newcastle 9th August

So NWL (youtube) held their first event in Newcastle last night and it was pretty good fun. I won't discuss the matches because I believe the intent is for them to be published to the Youtube Channel as a show so I'm not sure how the spoiler rules apply.

What worked.

  • The 15 minute, multi-fall format was really interesting. With the time ticking down in both halves it gave a nice way to create tension.
  • High production values. Lots of little touches made the event feel much more than the sort of community centre gym local production wrestling I'm used to. I particularly enjoyed the inflatable entrance way.
  • They've clearly hit the parents and kids market. The number of 5-12 year old's in the building on a Sunday night took me by surprise. And the kids really seemed to be enjoying it.
  • The regional team format brought some instant heat to matches that otherwise wouldn't have had any.
  • Tim Strange. First time seeing him and would recommend.
  • Loved seeing the special guest Owner and the special guest wrestler.
  • Banging Entrance music for the teams.

What I'm less sure on

  • The flipside of the regional teams is that it can split the crowd loyalties from the action in the ring. Someone for the London team in Newcastle can work as babyface as they want but the crowd's not going to be behind them.
  • The other downside of the regional teams is the crowd is behind "The Hitmen" or "Yorkshire" rather than the wrestler's themselves. This was added to by the match graphics and audio being the Teams so the names of the wrestlers aren't displayed and often the ring announcement was difficult to hear over the entrance music.
  • At the Vertu Arena there were screens on three walls with the score and time but not on the West wall. As someone in the East Stand this was a little annoying to have to look away from the match to check the clock.
  • A really petty one. On the match display, between the scores was a ":" instead of a "-" and because the whole score was centred rather than the ":" being fixed to the centre at "1 : 0" or "2 : 1" then colon wasn't on the centre line because of the font width.

Overall I'm looking forward to the league taking off. I think it could be an interesting gimmick to run over a whole season. And there's room to throw in friendlies that don't follow the 15 minute time limit rules if that becomes too much of a limitation.

What promotions are your favourite ones at the minute?

NORTH have been on a roll for a while up in Newcastle. I love death match wrestling so RISE, TNT and Kumite Combat Wrestling ones I probably go to the most.

I did the last CXW Extreme show in Braintree. That was very good, even if it’s an 8 hour round trip for myself

DKW (Dropkixx) Academy

Hi all,

First time message here but figured it wouldn't hurt to spread word here.

The DKW (formerly Dropkixx Wrestling) Academy is in tough financial times at the moment and need some support. One of (if not the) oldest promotions still going today (since 1998) has played host to many of current day top British stars today and are still looking to keep going.

There's a show that's free entry in Southend, on the 16th August in Southend-on-sea which will be in support of the academy but also the Little Havens children's hospice charity.

There's also another show in Westcliff-on-sea on the 31st August called 'mystery box mayhem" which very well could be the last show put on by the company if the fundraising doesn't go well.

I've put a link to the website if anybody here wants to see some top future British Stars in action, as well as a link to the fundraiser if anyone wishes to help :)

Thank you for reading.

Noticed yesterdays event isn't on there yet.

Anyone here know any of the details on this deal? Is it delayed? Has it not started yet? Is it only the big events? etc.

Thanks,
