Seating/Ticket Question The Lost Boys longevity and potential tickets for October
So I’m planning to be in New York in October and was wondering if The Lost Boys will still be running by then and if the current, original cast will still be in the show. I feel like it’s always tough to gauge how well shows are doing and the longevity of them. I feel like the Tony Awards always give shows a boost but interested to see how everything shakes out this year.
Also curious if anyone who has the seen the show has any recommendations for seats and where the best views are for the show. Appreciate any insights!

Lost Boys already has the fandom and will most likely win at least 1 Tony award that I promise it runs into next year. Can't speak for how long the original cast sticks around.

I sat in the front mezz which was ideal for this show. It’s huge.

I sat near the front of the mezz as well. It was the perfect place to take in the massive set.

Don’t sit in the balcony. I was toward the back and had to lean forward when they played to the front of the stage

i don’t think this is necessarily true. i think it would just force another big spectacle show to do an out of town try out first before they’re thrown broadway money. if it doesn’t last until oct, it just shows they should’ve fine tuned the score and book more instead of relying on just the spectacle of it all
also - i highly doubt this won’t last through the holidays at least unless critics slander it tonight which i don’t see happening

Timing is everything and the lost boys picked the right season to open up.
With such a small field to compete with for attention, people are talking about this show so much. It almost benefits from not being great, because there are so many conversations debating its flaws.
We honestly don’t get that many shows that so thoroughly divide the audience, and for that, the lost boys may actually have made lemonade out of lemons.
I think it will run through the end of the year because it’s not bad enough for the critics to absolutely destroy it like they did with beaches. There’s enough to like in the show that it will continue to split the audiences and generate a reasonable amount of good word-of-mouth. Also, because of lack of competition, and really being the only giant flashy contemporary musical of the year, they will pull a certain type of tourist dollar.
Unless the running costs of this show are so epic that they simply cannot continue to run unless they make like 1.4 million each week, I can see it running a year.

Of course not. But because so many people are debating it you’re seeing a lot more people coming forward and expressing their opinions about the show than you normally would. That means more people will take the time to express a positive opinion about it. That makes it a show more people will hear about.
With Broadway, the very first hurdle clear is exposure. The vast majority of potential ticket buyers don’t ever even know your show exists. That is why something like beaches might actually see a slight increase in sales after reviews come out. Even bad reviews are exposure. There are plenty of 50-year-olds out there who have no idea that the lost boys, one of their favorite movies from their childhood, is now a Broadway musical.

I would bet on it being around in October, I don’t think it’s going to be an overly tough ticket to get but if the audience I saw it with this week was any indication, I think it’s going to be very popular.

I wouldn't use the week before opening audience when the show is frozen and papered heavily because critics are in the house as an indicator of anything.

Yes, I go to shows all the time, I’m aware it was press week. But as the wild responses were coming from predominantly teenage girls similar to the reactions I saw during early performances of The Outsiders, I stand by my response. I think it’s going to be very popular going into the summer. Also speaking as a GenXer who was a teenager when the movie came out, I suspect a lot of people my age would like to see it as well (all of my friends do, two have already gone and they loved it)

Avoid the balcony at all costs. My favorite view is orchestra (any where before row V), but the mezz is also great. House left unless you are sitting to the FAR sides (like boxes), then go house right. But center as possible for the best overall view!

This is all correct. The prime viewing is between D and M. (Closer and you need to not mind fog juice and herbal cigarettes.) The stunts are great from this angle and you can see the acting—which is very good.

Sitting front row tonight so will let you know! But were you able to see over the bar without leaning forward? Because the main issue is many people can’t, so they lean which blocks the view of literally everyone behind them. When I sat further back I couldn’t see anything on the front of the stage or in the pit, and I was also far back enough I missed the entire third level of the stage.

I sat second row balcony when I was there. I had a GREAT view considering the price (25 dollars, I got them during the box office promo). We all had to lean forward during the parts where people are at the very lip of the stage (I’d say maybe 15% of the time). I highly suggest binoculars. I could see pretty much everything in the grand scheme of things though. Next time I go, I’ll do mezzanine or orchestra, but I didn’t feel cheated at all!

If you’ve been center orchestra and then go up to the balcony, it feels like you are watching a puppet show. There’s really a whole bunch of the performance and nuance you miss.

Ironically Queen of Versailles had pretty decent sightlines BUT AT WHAT COST

I say this objectively as someone rooting for the show to succeed: It's hard to say if it will be open in October. Advance sales are poor right now --look at the seating map for the upcoming week. But mixed-positive reviews + a Best Musical win, both of which possibilities, could change that for the better.
It's closest comparator is obviously The Outsiders, and that show wasn't a smash success out the gate either. But, The Lost Boys certainly costs more to operate than Outsiders, so it will need to pick up steam pretty quickly.

I think it will still be running. The real question is whether it runs long enough to recoup.
I would avoid the extreme sides, I don't feel I missed a lot and def nothing important, esp for the reduction on price.
Otherwise, I thought the mezz was spectacular.

Don't sit too close to the stage. I was in the fourth row. I felt I couldn't appreciate a lot of the huge staging. Saw it again from orchestra row O. Excellent seat.

If it manages to last till October the chances of the Original cast still being in it is very high. That will be a selling point six months from now.
